A man believed to be in his early 50s, identified as Jefferson Gaye, has found L$420,500 along with a power bank and an identification card, and is preparing to officially return the items to their rightful owner this Saturday, September 20.
Mr. Gaye, a resident of Gayee Town in Electoral District #3, Grand Gedeh County, said he found the items on Sunday, September 14, 2025, while traveling to his hometown. The discovery was made between Gbarzon Polar and Zalaken, areas within the Gbarzon Statutory District.
According to Mr. Gaye, he began searching for the owner immediately after the discovery. On Wednesday, September 17, a Ghanaian national (whose name is being withheld) contacted him, claiming ownership of the items and presenting a second form of identification.
The Ghanaian national reportedly lost the belongings while en route to River Cess, passing through Gbao, a chiefdom in the Gbarzon district.
Mr. Gaye said he informed the districtโs representative, Hon. Jacob C. Debee, about the situation. The lawmaker advised him to wait until his return to the district on Friday, September 19, so the turnover ceremony could be conducted properly.
Hon. Debee has promised to formally recognize and appreciate Mr. Gaye for his honesty during the event, which is scheduled to take place in Gbarzon this Saturday.
This rare act of integrity has drawn praise from community members, who are commending Mr. Gaye for doing the right thing despite the large sum involved.
