LIBENERGY Raises Alarm Over Increasing Theft of Electrical Cables in Harper City

May 22, 2026

HARPER, Maryland County

The Management of LIBENERGY has sounded a strong warning over what it describes as a growing wave of theft and vandalism targeting critical electricity infrastructure in Harper City, cautioning that the illegal activities are threatening public safety and undermining efforts to provide stable and reliable electricity services to residents.

The company disclosed that it has observed a troubling increase in the cutting and theft of transformer earthing (grounding) cables and neutral cables from several locations within the city.

According to management, the incidents have become recurrent in recent months, causing concern among engineers and technical personnel responsible for maintaining the electrical distribution network.

In a public notice released this week, LIBENERGY described the perpetrators as "unscrupulous individuals" whose actions continue to jeopardize the integrity of the city's power infrastructure.

Company officials stressed that while some people may view the theft of electrical cables as a simple act of stealing scrap metal for resale, the consequences are far-reaching and potentially catastrophic.

"These are not ordinary cables, they are essential safety components that protect both the electrical system and the public," the company emphasized.

Electrical engineers explain that grounding or earthing cables serve as a protective pathway that safely directs excess electrical current into the ground.

This process prevents dangerous voltage build-up and protects transformers and other electrical equipment from damage during electrical faults, lightning strikes, or power surges.
Without proper grounding, transformers become vulnerable to malfunction, overheating, and catastrophic failure.

Such failures can trigger transformer explosions, fires, prolonged power outages, and serious electrocution hazards for residents living near affected installations.

Experts further note that neutral cables play a critical role in balancing electrical loads and maintaining stable voltage levels throughout the distribution system.

Their removal can result in erratic power supply, voltage fluctuations, equipment damage, and increased risks to consumers using household appliances and business equipment.

According to LIBENERGY, the continued theft of these components threatens not only the company's operations but also the safety of entire communities that depend on the electrical network for daily activities.

The company warned that schools, health facilities, businesses, government institutions, and households could all suffer the consequences of damaged electrical infrastructure.

A senior technical officer familiar with the situation explained that replacing stolen cables often requires emergency maintenance work, technical assessments, and procurement of specialized materials, all of which place additional financial burdens on the utility provider.

"Every time these cables are stolen, the company is forced to divert resources that could otherwise be used to expand and improve electricity services.

It affects service delivery and delays development projects intended to benefit the public," the official noted.

Residents in some communities have reportedly experienced temporary service disruptions linked to damaged transformers and compromised electrical connections resulting from vandalism.

The situation comes at a time when efforts are underway to strengthen electricity access and reliability across Maryland County. Local authorities and development stakeholders have invested significant resources into expanding energy infrastructure to support economic growth and improve living conditions for residents.

LIBENERGY fears that continued vandalism could undermine these gains and discourage future investments in the energy sector.
Management revealed that the matter has been formally reported to the Liberia National Police (LNP), and investigations are currently expected to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The company indicated that individuals found guilty of tampering with or stealing public electrical infrastructure could face prosecution under relevant laws governing theft, destruction of public property, and acts that endanger public safety.

Beyond law enforcement intervention, LIBENERGY is calling for stronger community involvement in protecting public infrastructure.
The company has appealed to community leaders, youth organizations, local government officials, neighborhood watch groups, and residents to remain vigilant and actively assist in safeguarding transformers and 8 are being encouraged to promptly report suspicious movements around transformers, unauthorized persons carrying electrical cables, or individuals attempting to tamper with electrical installations.

Management emphasized that protecting electrical infrastructure should not be viewed solely as the responsibility of the utility provider but as a collective obligation shared by all citizens.
"Electricity infrastructure belongs to the public and serves the public.

When these facilities are damaged or vandalized, everyone suffers the consequences," the company stated.
The management further reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable .

LIBENERGY concluded by urging citizens to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and utility personnel in the fight against infrastructure vandalism, stressing that community participation remains one of the most effective tools in preventing theft and protecting public assets.

"Together, we can protect our electrical infrastructure, ensure public safety, support development, and maintain a reliable power supply for present and future generations," the statement concluded.

LDEA Cracks Down on Drug Trafficking in River Gee as Boakai Administration Intensifies Anti-Narcotics Push

May 13, 2026

Fish Town, River Gee County

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency, River Gee County detachment, has arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized narcotics valued at more than L$144,000, marking one of the most significant anti-narcotics operations in the county this year.

The action comes as the Joseph N. Boakai administration intensifies its national campaign to curb the rising tide of substance abuse and dismantle illicit drug networks across Liberia.

The three-day operation, conducted between May 8 and May 10, 2026, was led by River Gee County Commander, Special Agent Bill M. Cooper Jr.

According to the LDEA, the coordinated raids targeted known drug distribution points in Fish Town and Tienpo Nyonken, following weeks of intelligence gathering and community tips.

Commander Cooper said the operation is a direct outcome of policy directives from Monrovia to strengthen county-level enforcement and restore public confidence in the state’s ability to protect communities from the social and health consequences of drug trafficking.

In Fish Town, officers apprehended 34-year-old Emmanuel Blawon after discovering 20 scripts of Tramadol in his possession.

Tramadol, an opioid painkiller increasingly abused by young people in Liberia, has been at the center of national concern due to its addictive properties and links to violent behavior. The LDEA estimated the street value of the confiscated drugs at approximately L$140,000.

In a separate operation in Tienpo Nyonken, 20-year-old Fred S. Barwee was arrested with a cache that included kush, 15 wraps of ma*****na, and one pill of Tramadol.

Authorities valued the seized substances at L$4,200.

Combined, the total estimated street value of the narcotics seized over the weekend stands at L$144,200.

Both suspects are currently being held at the Fish Town City Magisterial Court and are expected to face prosecution under Liberia’s drug control laws. If convicted, they could face significant prison terms and fines.

Speaking after the arrests, Commander Cooper linked the success of the operation to renewed political will under President Joseph N. Boakai’s government.
“Since this administration took office, the directive has been clear, no space for drug dealers in Liberia,” Cooper said.

“We are seeing better coordination between headquarters and the counties, improved logistics, and stronger community engagement. That is why we are getting results.”

The Boakai administration has made the fight against narcotics a key pillar of its national security and public health agenda.

Early this year, the government announced increased budgetary support for the LDEA, the establishment of rehabilitation partnerships with the Ministry of Health, and a public awareness drive targeting schools and youth groups.

Minister of Justice and Attorney General Cllr. Oswald Tweh has repeatedly described drug trafficking as a threat to national stability, noting that the proliferation of Tramadol and synthetic substances like kush is undermining education, public safety, and economic productivity

Commander Cooper emphasized that law enforcement alone cannot end the drug crisis.

He called on residents of River Gee to report suspicious activities related to the sale, transportation, and distribution of narcotics.

“The fight against drugs is a fight for our children’s future,” he said. “We need parents, teachers, religious leaders, and traditional authorities to work with us.

When communities speak up, traffickers lose their cover.”

The LDEA confirmed that intelligence-led operations will continue across River Gee and neighboring counties.

Officials say the agency is also expanding its surveillance of border entry points to prevent the smuggling of illegal substances from neighboring countries.

The arrests in River Gee reflect a broader national challenge. Health officials and civil society groups have warned that the availability of cheap, potent drugs is fueling addiction among Liberia’s youth population.

In 2025, the Ministry of Health reported a 22% increase in drug-related admissions at psychiatric and rehabilitation centers in Montserrado, Margibi, and Nimba counties.

Analysts say the Boakai government’s approach combining enforcement, prevention, and rehabilitation marks a shift from previous administrations that relied primarily on punitive measures.

For now, the LDEA in River Gee says its message is simple: the trade is no longer safe.

“We will pursue, we will arrest, and we will prosecute,” Commander Cooper stated.

“Our communities deserve to be safe, and our youth deserve a future free from drugs.”

The case has been forwarded to the Fish Town City Magisterial Court for further legal proceedings.

Independent Election Committee
Tubman University Students Government Association
William V.S Tubman University
Harper City, Maryland County, Republic of Liberia.

April 30,2026

To: All Contestants and The General Student Body of Tubman University.

Subject: Immediate Suspension and Nullification of the Ongoing Tubman University Student Government Association General Election.

This communication serves as a formal directive to immediately halt all ongoing electoral processes related to the Tubman University Student Government Association (TUSGA) General Election.
This action is necessitated by credible, verified, and widespread reports of electoral irregularities and fraudulent practices that have significantly undermined the integrity, transparency, and fairness of the election. These violations include, but are not limited to, duplication of ballot papers, voter manipulation, duplication of the TUSGA Independent Election Committee Official Stamp, and other inconsistencies in the administration of the electoral process.
Given the gravity of these issues, it is clear that the current electoral process no longer reflects the democratic will of the student body and cannot produce a legitimate outcome. Allowing the process to continue under such compromised conditions would erode trust in student governance and set a dangerous precedent for future elections.
This decision, though difficult, is necessary to uphold the principles of democratic governance, transparency, and justice within Tubman University Student Community.
Further communication will be issued regarding the next steps forward.
Sincerely yours,

Signed: Jonathan S. Harmon

Student elections at William V.S. Tubman University officially commenced on Friday, April 24, 2026, with the College of Business and Administration (CBA) taking the lead in the electoral process.

Students of the CBA turned out to vote for their new corps of leaders, contesting positions including President, Vice President, Secretary, and Financial Secretary. The exercise marks a significant step in the university’s student governance calendar.

Speaking to reporters, the Chairperson of the CBA Independent Elections Commission (IEC), Romeo Sio, described the process as transparent and orderly. He disclosed that although voting was initially scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m., minor challenges delayed the official start to 9:00 a.m.

Despite the delay, Sio emphasized that the electoral environment remained calm and well-coordinated. “Observers and voters are safe, and the atmosphere has been peaceful throughout,” he stated. He further noted that there has been smooth interaction among observers, although some concerns were raised regarding candidates moving around the polling area. Leadership Dispute Emerges Within SUA Over 10th Politburo Chairmanship

By; Morrison K. Goe, Jr.

Pleebo, Maryland — April 2026 — A growing leadership controversy has emerged within the Student Unification Alliance (SUA) following conflicting announcements over the rightful Chairmanship of its 10th Politburo, sparking confusion among members and supporters across different platforms.

The dispute stems from developments surrounding the organization’s 15th Congress and retreat activities held on April 18, 2026 in Pleebo City, where a formal communication issued by the 15th Congress Preparatory Committee (CPC) initially announced the election of Emmanuel Doryen as Chairman of the 10th Politburo for the 2026–2027 leadership term. The CPC’s statement, which extended what it described as “revolutionary greetings” to members, outlined several elected officials tasked with steering the affairs of the student-based alliance.

However, the leadership announcement has since been called into question following a contrasting public statement from Jefferson Wah, the outgoing Chairman Emeritus of the 9th Politburo. In a Facebook post, Wah congratulated Anthony Harris as the newly installed Chairman of the 10th Politburo, noting that power had been successfully handed over after the completion of his one-year tenure.

In his statement, Wah wrote that “in keeping with the Party’s uninterrupted proceedings,” Anthony Harris had assumed office as Chair of the 10th Politburo, a claim that directly contradicts the earlier CPC communication naming Emmanuel Doryen.

Meanwhile, the emergence of two conflicting leadership claims has triggered widespread reactions within the SUA community and among supporters. While some members have publicly congratulated Emmanuel Doryen based on the official congress communication, others have endorsed Anthony Harris following the statement attributed to the outgoing leadership.

As a result, the situation has gone viral across social and student political circles, with growing debate over which communication holds legitimate authority over the succession process.

At this stage, no unified clarification has been issued by the central structures of the SUA or the Congress Preparatory Committee to reconcile the differing positions. Observers note that the contradiction raises broader questions about internal communication, transition procedures, and leadership legitimacy within the organization.

Efforts to independently verify the final and recognized leadership of the 10th Politburo are ongoing, as stakeholders await an official consolidated statement to resolve the dispute.

SUA Elects New Leadership at 15th Congress in Harper City

Pleebo City, Maryland County — April 18, 2026 — The Vanguard Student Unification Alliance (SUA) has officially unveiled a new corps of leaders following the successful conclusion of its 15th Congress, held in Harper City, Maryland County.

In a formal communication issued by the 15th Congress Preparatory Committee (CPC), the organization extended “revolutionary greetings” to its members and announced the election of key officials to steer the affairs of the student-based alliance for the 2026–2027 period.

According to the statement, the congress, which concluded on April 18, brought together militants, cadres, and comrades of the alliance to deliberate on organizational progress and leadership transition. Subsequently, the CPC confirmed the appointment of seven officials to constitute the leadership of what it described as the 10th Politburo.

The newly elected officials include Emmanuel Doryen as Chairman, Aweso Nyesuah as Co-Chair for Party Operations, and Abel Nah as Co-Chair for Administration and Governmental Affairs. Additionally, Nelson S. B. Dioh was named Secretary General, while Edwin Genoway will serve as Deputy Secretary General. Morrison Bernard takes on the role of Financial Secretary, and Roseline Nini Swen has been appointed Treasurer.

Furthermore, the CPC emphasized that the newly elected leadership is expected to provide strategic direction and strengthen the alliance’s operations over the coming term. The committee also described the cadres as “prolific” and capable of advancing the organization’s vision.

Meanwhile, members and supporters of the alliance have been urged to rally behind the new leadership as it assumes responsibility. The statement concluded with congratulatory remarks to the elected officials and reaffirmed the organization’s enduring commitment to its principles, declaring, “Forward ever, backward Never".
