The gentleman who allegedly stabbed police officers and was later killed has been identified as Matthew Mulbah.

Former Education Minister George Kronnisanyon Werner has paid his tribute to the dead - an account that could give us insights into what may have gone wrong.

👇👇👇

"Matthew was my friend — a close friend. We lived in the same neighborhood, and I rarely took a walk without him. Whenever my car or generator gave me trouble, he was the first person I called.

"About a week ago, a mutual friend called to tell me that Matthew had fallen ill and that his behavior had become strange — almost violent. He was said to be suffering from malaria, possibly cerebral malaria.

"Concerned, I reached out to several people to check on him. It was confirmed that he was mentally unstable. This morning, a few friends pooled resources to help take him to the hospital. But when they arrived, he became agitated and violent, injuring some of them in the process. They had no choice but to call the police.

"Sadly, the police response was not handled with the necessary professionalism. In trying to disarm him — to take the knife from him — one or more officers were reportedly stabbed. In the chaos, they shot him in the stomach. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

"Matthew was a gentle giant. Since I met him in 2011, I never once saw him act violently toward anyone.

"May God forgive his human limitations and grant him eternal rest. And may all those injured in this tragic incident find healing and recovery."

Police IG Gregory Coleman: “Good evening to all. This brief is about an officer-involved shooting following a multiple-stabbing incident in the Congo Town area.

On October 8, 2025, at approximately 14:58 hours, the Liberia National Police radio room received a distress call reporting that a police officer had been stabbed multiple times near the old LACC Building in Congo Town.

Responding officers identified themselves as police officers and ordered the suspect to surrender. After repeated verbal commands were ignored, officers attempted to breach the door. The suspect charged with a cutlass, striking and deeply wounding a second officer. The wound was inflicted on his arm when he raised his hand to protect his head from being hit with the cutlass.

A third officer intervened and successfully disarmed the suspect of the cutlass. Unaware that the suspect had a concealed knife sealed in his pais (trousers), the suspect then stabbed the third officer in his thigh and attempted another cross towards his abdomen.

Facing an immediate mortal danger, and in accordance with the LNP’s use-of-force continuum, one of the officers discharged his service weapon, instantly neutralizing the threat and preventing further harm to his colleagues.

The suspect and the officers were all rushed to the JFK Medical Center, where one officer remains in critical condition. As we speak, he is undergoing surgery. Following emergency treatment, the suspect was pronounced dead.

The Liberia National Police deeply regrets this tragic incident and extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We urge the public to remain calm while we keep the injured officers in our prayers. We have initiated a comprehensive investigation to establish all the facts surrounding the incident.”

KUSH in Water Bottles”: LDEA Nabs 70-Year-Old Woman in West Point Drug Bust Worth Over L$1 Million

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monrovia, Liberia – October 7, 2025: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), through its Special Drug Squad, has confiscated KUSH valued at over a million Liberian dollars (L$1,000,000) during a targeted operation in the Township of West Point, following a credible intelligence tip-off.

According to preliminary findings, the confiscated narcotic substance was concealed in nine (9) small mineral water bottles and is believed to be owned by a 70-year-old suspect, Mrs. Lucy S. Morris.

The suspect is currently undergoing investigation and processing and will be forwarded to court for prosecution in accordance with the Amended Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of 2023.

The LDEA reaffirms its unwavering commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and curbing the distribution of illicit substances across Liberia. The Agency continues to intensify operations in all parts of the country to ensure that those involved in the illegal drug trade are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the Agency is urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious drug-related activities within their communities.

The LDEA further warns that traffickers and distributors are adopting new methods — including the use of motorcycles and tricycles (kekehs) — to transport illicit substances in an attempt to evade law enforcement operations.

The Agency assures the public that it remains resolute in adapting countermeasures to intercept and dismantle such evolving criminal strategies.

Ok fm is reporting that A go-slow action is currently taking place at the Freeport of Monrovia, initiated by the Dock Workers Union of Liberia in protest against the management of APM Terminals.

The action stems from the company's continued refusal to sign a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the union.

A Collective Bargaining Agreement is a formal, legally binding labor contract between a union and an employer. It outlines the terms and conditions of employment for a group of workers, including wages, working hours, benefits, job security, and grievance procedures.

The CBA serves as a standard framework for all employees within the designated bargaining unit and is valid for a fixed period.

The union has vowed not to return to work until the management of APM Terminals agrees to finalize and sign the CBA.

According to union representatives, there has been no collective bargaining agreement between the Dock Workers Union and APM Terminals Liberia since 2015, despite repeated efforts to initiate negotiations.
