From Silence to Scrutiny: Government Orders Autopsy in Cletus T. Noah’s Controversial Death Despite Family Objections..
initially defined the narrative surrounding the sudden death of former government aide Cletus T. Noah, whose passing on May 4 raised questions among the public and within his family. Despite serious accusations of foul play leveled by Noah’s brother, Cain Tozo, against high-profile figures such as ex-Maritime Commissioner Lenn Eugene Nagbe and former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah, Noah’s widow and other close relatives firmly rejected an autopsy in a May 20 letter. Citing a lack of evidence and a desire to avoid prolonged grief, the family declared their intent to lay Noah to rest peacefully, a decision acknowledged by police at the time.
However, new developments have reignited controversy and shifted the course of the investigation. A leaked message from a private family chatroom has revealed that the Liberian government has moved forward with plans to conduct an autopsy, enlisting two Ghanaian pathologists at a cost of \$36,000. According to the message, the experts are expected to arrive within ten days, and the procedure will involve key stakeholders, including Noah’s wife, family, and individuals previously accused. This reversal suggests internal divisions within the family and growing pressure from both the public and the authorities to pursue clarity in the face of unresolved allegations and threats of retaliation from Cain Tozo.
The government’s move is widely seen as an attempt to bring transparency to a case clouded by conflicting accounts and heated accusations. While Nagbe maintains his innocence and has advocated for an autopsy to clear his name, he has also raised concerns over threats to his safety. Police, meanwhile, have reportedly intervened to delay burial preparations pending the autopsy results. As construction of Noah’s burial site nears completion, the case remains fraught with tension, with observers interpreting the government’s insistence on a forensic investigation as a strategy to defuse mounting suspicion and preempt further unrest.
