Bility Demands Transparency Over Dismissal of Senior NPHIL Officials

By: George Cooper

Liberian lawmaker and Political Leader of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), Hon. Musa Hassan Bility, has called on the Executive Branch to provide a clear and transparent explanation for the recent dismissal of senior officials at the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL).

In a statement issued on Thursday, Bility said the removal of key professionals from one of the country’s most vital health institutions without clear justification has sparked “legitimate and serious public concern.” He described NPHIL as the cornerstone of Liberia’s disease surveillance and epidemic response system, stressing that decisions affecting its leadership must be handled with utmost transparency and accountability.

Bility warned that citing only “administrative reasons” for the dismissals risks undermining the credibility of both the dismissed officials and the institution itself. He urged the government to provide a detailed explanation to maintain public trust and protect the integrity of Liberia’s health system. “Our national institutions belong to the people,” he said. “Decisions affecting them must reflect honesty and respect for the public trust.”

President Boakai Dismisses NPHIL Director General and Deputy, Names Interim Leadership…

Monrovia, October 15, 2025 — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has dismissed the Director General and Deputy Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), citing administrative reasons.

Those relieved of their posts are Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, Director General, and Dr. Adams K. Lincoln, Deputy Director General.

Following their dismissal, the President has appointed Dr. Sia Wata Camanor to serve as Interim Director General (Officer-in-Charge) of the institution. Dr. Camanor is tasked with working closely with the NPHIL Board, the Ministry of Health, other government agencies, and international partners to ensure the Institute’s stability and continuity of operations until a new Director General is appointed.

The Executive Mansion said the action forms part of President Boakai’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional leadership and enhance accountability across the public sector.

At the Ministry of Justice:
Atty. Teklo Maxwell Grigsby II – Director, Witness Protection Unit

Eugene Lenn Nagbe writes…

"Even if we buy land in Heaven the Unity Party (UP) will want to do things to stop us, nothing going to stop our ground breaking on Saturday".

"We are going to build our Head quarters in record time, and we will later go Grand Bassa to break ground for another headquarters" Eugene asserted.

"The legitimate owner bought their land in 1963 and sold it to us, the land is in fence, and I don't think anyone will put someone land in fence for so many years without the person raising concerns".

Senator Karnga-Lawrence Calls for Renewed Global Commitment to Women’s Empowerment at Beijing Forum

By George Cooper

Liberian Senate President Pro Tempore Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence has urged global leaders to speed up action on women’s empowerment and gender equality. She spoke at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women held in Beijing, China, from October 13 to 14, 2025. Under the theme “One Shared Future: New and Accelerated Process for Women’s All-Round Development,” Senator Karnga-Lawrence conveyed warm greetings from President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to President Xi Jinping and the people of China. She noted that the gathering marks an important milestone as it commemorates 30 years since the landmark Beijing Conference on Women.

The Senator emphasized that the conference serves as a vital platform to strengthen global commitments and learn from China’s progress in advancing women’s rights. She pointed out that, despite notable achievements, the Beijing agenda is still “a work in progress.” Nearly one in four countries is facing a rollback in women’s rights. Citing rising gender-based violence and economic disparities, she highlighted that women earn 20 percent less than men for equal work and perform 2.5 times more unpaid care work. She warned that ongoing gender inequality in areas like agriculture continues to cost African economies millions of dollars each year.

Focusing on Liberia, Senator Karnga-Lawrence highlighted that rural women are the backbone of the nation’s agricultural sector, yet they still face marginalization due to deep-rooted gender norms, unequal access to resources, and the growing threat of climate change. She praised the resilience of Liberian women involved in agricultural cooperatives and village savings groups, many of which receive support from UN Women and other partners. She called for increased investment in digital technologies and initiatives that can turn these local structures into drivers of national development.

The House Press Bureau has described as false, unfounded, and misleading recent reports circulating on social media alleging a plan for removal of Deputy Speaker Hon. Thomas Pangar Fallah from his position.

According to the Press Director Robert Haynes, Deputy Speaker Fallah continues to enjoy the full confidence and support of Speaker Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon and the entire membership of the House of Representatives.

The Press Director clarifies that the Deputy Speaker remains actively engaged in the work of the Legislature. Fresh from representing Liberia as part of the official government delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York, USA, Hon. Fallah has since returned home and was warmly welcomed by Speaker Koon and his colleagues.

“These social media reports are nothing but deliberate attempts to cause distraction,” the Haynes noted. “The Deputy Speaker and members of the House remain focused as the Legislature has officially commenced its third and final quarter session for this year.”

The Bureau reaffirmed the commitment of the House of Representatives to continue carrying out its fiduciary duties and the mandate entrusted to it by the Liberian people, in an atmosphere of unity and dedication.

The House Press Bureau therefore calls on the public not to be swayed by baseless propaganda intended to undermine the smooth operations of the Legislature.
