Ugandan Opposition Leader Bobi Wine Reportedly Detained, Flown Away by Military Helicopter

Uganda’s main opposition figure, Robert Kyagulanyi—popularly known as Bobi Wine—has reportedly been taken to an undisclosed location aboard an army helicopter, according to officials from his political party.

Party representatives say the incident followed a security operation involving the military, raising fresh concerns over the treatment of opposition leaders and the use of state security forces in political matters.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement clarifying his whereabouts or the reasons for the move.

The development has sparked anxiety among supporters and renewed debate over political freedoms in the country.

Breaking news:
Torrential rains and severe flooding have killed more than 100 people across southern Africa, particularly in Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, with additional impacts reported in Madagascar, Malawi, and Zambia. Causes of death include lightning strikes, drowning, building collapses, and cholera outbreaks.

South Africa has confirmed at least 19 fatalities and evacuated visitors from Kruger National Park. In Mozambique, more than 200,000 people have been affected, with over 100 deaths reported since late last year.

Zimbabwe has recorded at least 70 deaths, alongside widespread destruction of homes and critical infrastructure.

Authorities warn that heavier rainfall may continue, possibly linked to the La Niña weather phenomenon.

Grand Cape Mount Kickball Team Threatens Boycott Over Unpaid Dues

Tension is mounting ahead of the County Meet kickball final as the Grand Cape Mount County female team has threatened to boycott Sunday’s championship match, citing unpaid allowances and alleged neglect by the county’s steering committee.

Reports gathered from the Clean Communications Network, disclosed that the players are protesting what they describe as poor treatment and abandonment while in camp. According to the team, they have not been paid for their semi-final appearance, and no clear arrangements have been communicated regarding their benefits for the final match scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2026.

The aggrieved players are reportedly planning a protest later today along the GSA Road in Paynesville, where they are currently camping.

Speaking to Journalists, several team members said they are demanding full payment for both their semi-final and final matches before agreeing to take part in the decisive encounter.

Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), has been suspended for four matches and fined $20,000 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over alleged misconduct during Cameroon’s loss to Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations. CAF said Eto’o made an irate gesture toward referees in front of its president, Patrice Motsepe. FECAFOOT acknowledged the ruling but criticized the process, vowed to appeal, and reaffirmed support for Eto’o. CAF is also investigating reported on-field altercations during the tournament. Hosts Morocco face Senegal in the final, while Nigeria plays Egypt in the third-place match.
