Kakata City Mayor call for assistance

Mayor Gbarngawoe E. Seyboe has issued an urgent call for support from philanthropists and humanitarian organizations to assist in acquiring a waste truck or pickup for the city.

Speaking on the Classic Breakfast Show on May 7, he highlighted that waste management has become a critical issue for the municipality.

Mayor Seyboe revealed that the city spends over $12,000 daily on waste management, primarily due to the high costs charged by local commercial drivers—around $4,000 per trip to the Kakata dumpsite.

He emphasized that this financial burden could severely impact the city's budget, as most of the funds received from local markets and fines are being allocated to waste disposal.

The Mayor expressed concern over the lack of local companies willing to assist and pointed out that support from lawmakers has been minimal.

He acknowledged the government’s efforts to provide some funding but stressed the need for more sustainable solutions to help with ongoing development.

He concluded by expressing gratitude toward the Government of Liberia for recognizing the city in the budget, marking it as a significant step forward for the city corporation.Kakata

# # # Development Meeting in Margibi County

Margibi County Superintendent, O Jay Godfavor Morris Jr. and his deputies concluded a significant development meeting with citizens across the county on May 6, which saw the participation of over 75 residents.

In his opening remarks, Superintendent Morris praised the citizens for their strong turnout, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in discussions about development initiatives that affect their lives.

The meeting aimed to address the County Development Fund for the fiscal year, specifically the 2026 budget. During the gathering, Development Officer, B Lewis N Kaine reported on the progress of key projects, including the C. H. Rennie Hospital, which was damaged by fire in 2021, and the Dolo Town Health Center, both of which are nearing completion.

Kaine reassured the audience that funds received were utilized appropriately, and he expressed the hope that similar practices would continue in the new budget year.

Citizens were encouraged to share their views on fund allocation, leading to discussions about the need for a vehicle for the County Development Officer and the importance of motorbikes for effective outreach local leaders.

In response to citizens' requests, Superintendent Morris acknowledged their concerns but cautioned that while more requests would be made for resources, expectations should remain realistic as the county seeks to secure additional funding.

Hon. Morris reaffirmed his commitment to serving the citizens and his dedication to advancing development projects, highlighting his goal of delivering on the "ARREST AGENDA" for all Liberians.

Kakata City Mayor Cancels Sunday Sales at Vai Town Market

Kakata City Mayor Gbarngawoe E. Seyboe has announced the cancellation of Sunday sales at the Vai Town market, effective May 3, 2026. This decision follows several meetings with the head of the Vai Town market and representatives from the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA)

Mayor Seyboe stated that the primary goal of this decision is to ensure a clear and accessible back-pass leading from the Mandingo quarter community to the main entrance.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining free movement for both drivers and churchgoers on Sundays.

"All marketers who wish to sell on Sundays should go to the Kakata General Market," Mayor Seyboe advised. He clarified that the intention behind this decision is not to restrict business but to promote a safer environment for traffic and pedestrian movement, especially on Sundays.

"We want to ensure that the road is clear on Sundays, he added, urging market sellers to adhere to the city's regulations.

The mayor made these statements during a recent meeting with representatives from the Liberia Marketing Association and other groups.
