Justice must be done
Injured Liberian Worker Cries for Justice and Overseas Medical Support.

A young Liberian man, Josie Pannah, is pleading for justice and advanced medical treatment abroad after sustaining a serious eye injury while working for Bea Mountain Mining Company.
Pannah, who once served as a Lab Sample Paper worker with the company, recalled the incident that changed his life. “I sustained the eye injury while on duty at the company’s premises. The next morning, I woke up unable to see. I was rushed to JFK Hospital for medical treatment.
Despite the injury, Pannah says he was called back to resume work and was assigned as a controller on a six-month contract. However, during that period, he continued to experience eye pain and repeatedly requested advanced medical care — a request he claims was ignored by management.
“Bea Mountain has shown no concern since the incident,” Pannah said. “I’m surviving today only by the grace of God and support from my family.”
Pannah stressed that he was medically cleared before being hired, as required by the company. “Before employment, all workers must pass a medical test. I passed mine and was 100% healthy. I even have photos and medical records to prove it,” he added.
Following his injury on May 8, 2021, Pannah traveled to Monrovia and was examined at JFK Eye Clinic on May 13, 2021. He revealed that his family spent over $250 USD on his treatment at the time.
He started working as a daily hire with Bea Mountain in November 2020. After his injury in May 2021, he received a six-month contract on May 18, 2021, and was later issued an employment bio-data form on October 20, 2021 — a sign he believed pointed toward permanent employment. However, shortly after submitting his details, he was informed by a company representative, Thompson Diablo, that his services were no longer needed.
Mr. Pannah is appealing to the Liberian government, particularly the Ministry of Labor, to urgently intervene. He insists that justice must be served.
