SENATOR MOYE FACES SCRUTINY OVER APPOINTMENT CONTROVERSY

Monrovia, Liberia โ€” B**g County Senator Prince Moye finds himself in the eye of a storm as controversy surrounds allegations of name-swapping and questionable appointments in President Joseph Nyuma Boakai's government. The Senator, previously the National Campaign Manager for the Unity Party during the 2023 elections, faces accusations of influencing nominations and engaging in behind-the-scenes maneuvers.

Recent video footage emerged, showing Senator Moye alongside prominent Unity Party members attempting to remove a lady from her office. The events in the video raise questions about the Senator's role and the Unity Party's influence in shaping the government.

Key Questions Arising:

Transparency and Accountability: How transparent is the government's appointment process, and what mechanisms are in place to ensure accountability?

Unity Party's Role: To what extent is the Unity Party exerting influence on appointments, and does this align with principles of fairness and meritocracy?

Senator Moye's Denial: Given the video evidence, does Senator Moye's denial of involvement in questionable appointments hold water?

Public Trust: How does the controversy impact public trust in the government's commitment to fair and impartial appointments?

Checks and Balances: What safeguards are in place to prevent improper influence on nominations, and how effective are these checks and balances?

The unfolding saga brings to the forefront concerns about the integrity of Liberia's political processes and the need for a thorough investigation into the appointment controversy. As citizens scrutinize their leaders, the government faces the challenge of addressing these allegations and ensuring transparency in its decision-making.

๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ท U.S. CITIZEN ON TRIAL FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER DENIED PERMISSION TO TRAVEL FOR MEDICAL CARE ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿšซ

Monrovia, Liberia โ€” Lucas Richards, a U.S. citizen on trial for attempting to murder his wife, Jessica Lloyd, has been denied permission by Criminal Court 'B' to travel abroad for medical care. The court, presided over by Judge Nelson Chinneh, modified Richards' bail conditions to prohibit him from leaving Liberia during the ongoing trial.

๐Ÿฉบ MEDICAL CHECKUP REQUEST DENIED ๐Ÿ“‹โŒ
Richards' legal team had requested permission for him to undergo a medical checkup in his home country, citing his alleged "devastating condition." However, the government opposed the request, expressing concerns about the potential non-return of Richards to Liberia if granted permission, given the absence of an extradition treaty between Liberia and the United States.

๐Ÿ›‘ MODIFICATION OF BAIL CONDITIONS โš–๏ธ๐Ÿšซ
In response to the circumstances, Judge Chinneh modified Richards' bail conditions, prohibiting him from leaving Liberia while the trial is ongoing. The case has been adjourned to a later date.

โš”๏ธ BACKGROUND OF THE CASE ๐Ÿ“…๐Ÿ”—
Richards, a U.S. Christian missionary, is facing charges related to the attack and injury of his wife, Jessica Lloyd, in Dixville, Caldwell, on September 14. The victim, Jessica Lloyd, is actively involved in the prosecution against her husband.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ CHURCH RESPONSE AND SUPPORT TO THE VICTIM โ›ช๐Ÿค
The church to which Richards is affiliated, Creekside Church in the U.S., clarified that he was not a member of their church but had his own church in Liberia. They expressed support for the victim, emphasized the importance of seeking truth and justice, and acknowledged the challenging nature of the conflicting eyewitness accounts.

๐Ÿ™ CONTINUED PRAYER AND COOPERATION ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿคฒ
Creekside Church urged continued prayer for all involved and emphasized their collaboration with the Liberian legal system to uncover the truth and ensure justice. The church acknowledged the sensitivity of the situation, expressing their obligation to seek truth and justice.

๐Ÿšจ PROTEST TURNS DEADLY AT BEA MOUNTAIN MINING COMPANY ๐Ÿญโš ๏ธ

Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia โ€” A protest at the Bea Mountain Mining Company (BMMC) in Grand Cape Mount County escalated into violence on Thursday, February 29, claiming two lives and leaving several others injured. The clash unfolded as aggrieved citizens clashed with Liberia National Police (LNP) officers, raising concerns about the contentious relationship between local communities and mining operations.

๐Ÿ”ฅ ESCALATION OF PEACEFUL PROTEST ๐Ÿ“ข๐ŸŒ
Initially, the demonstration began peacefully, with local residents expressing grievances against the mining company's operations. However, tensions heightened, leading to clashes between protesters and law enforcement. Two individuals lost their lives, and several sustained injuries in the ensuing chaos.

๐Ÿ” INVESTIGATION INTO DEATHS AND INJURIES ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿค•
The circumstances surrounding the deaths and injuries are under investigation, with conflicting accounts emerging from both protesters and authorities. Reports suggest that clashes erupted as police attempted to disperse the crowd, intensifying the already fraught situation.

๐Ÿ’” LOCAL GRIEVANCES AND SOCIAL TENSIONS ๐Ÿญ๐ŸŒ
BMMC, a major player in Liberia's mining sector, has faced criticism from local communities regarding issues such as land rights, environmental concerns, and economic disparities. This incident underscores the deep-seated grievances and social tensions surrounding extractive industries in the region.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ LAWMAKER BACKS PROTESTORS ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘
Representative Mohammed Dosii, the newly elected lawmaker of Grand Cape Mount County District #2, expressed support for the ongoing protest against BMMC. Dosii stated that residents were unhappy with perceived labor practices at the mines, endorsing their right to protest.

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ  ARSON AND ALLEGATIONS ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Following Dosii's endorsement, protestors reportedly damaged company properties, including the newly constructed vocational school building. Additionally, the home of Boakai Lansanah Taraferro, a contestant in the 2023 election, was set ablaze. Taraferro accused Dosii of orchestrating the arson attack on his home.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ SECURITY MEASURES AND CONTROVERSY ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ‘ฎ
The presence of armed men hired by the Turkish mining company added fuel to the fire, with Dosii claiming that the company's decision to bring armed personnel escalated tensions. However, some residents argued that such security measures were necessary to protect the company's facilities, citing past instances of destruction.

๐Ÿ“œ MINERAL DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT PROVISIONS ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ›๏ธ
The Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) between the Liberian government and BMMC allows the company to establish its security force, subject to the authority of the Liberia National Police. While Section 11.2 (a) prohibits armed guards, Section 11.2 (b) allows the company to request armed guards, with the government bearing the expense.

๐Ÿค DIVERGENT VIEWS AND CONFLICTING ACCOUNTS ๐Ÿ”„๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ
Divergent views persist among citizens, with some supporting the company's security measures for protection, while others contend that it fuels tensions in the community. The incident raises questions about balancing economic interests, community concerns, and security in extractive industries.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ LIBERIAN HOUSE LAUNCHES PROBE INTO EXPORT-IMPORT BUREAUCRACY ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ท

Capitol Hill, Monrovia โ€” The Liberian House of Representatives has voted unanimously to initiate an investigation into the "bureaucratic bottlenecks" that afflict Liberia's export and import sectors. The decision came in response to a request from Representative Austin Blidi Taylor Sr., who emphasized the detrimental impact of these obstacles on Liberian commerce.

๐Ÿ“„ INVESTIGATING CHALLENGES ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŒ
Representative Taylor's plea highlighted the urgent need to address the intricate challenges within Liberia's import and export sector. He pointed out the unfavorable nature of the local supply chain process, describing it as economically stifling for individuals engaged in commerce.

๐Ÿ’ธ MULTIPLE FEES AND COMPLEX PROCEDURES ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ’ณ
Taylor outlined the difficulties faced by importers and exporters, including multiple fees imposed by ent**ies such as MEDTECH Scientific and Global Tracking Maritime Solutions (GTMS). These fees, along with additional charges from shipping lines, contribute to inflated prices for imported and exported goods. The complex procedures and fees, according to Taylor, result in extended waiting times and significant financial burdens on traders.

๐ŸŒ LOSS OF REVENUE TO NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿค
Expressing concern, Taylor noted that Liberia is losing substantial revenue to neighboring countries with less burdensome and costly import-export processes, such as Guinea and Sierra Leone.

๐Ÿ” PROMPT ACTION AND COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENT โš–๏ธ๐Ÿ›๏ธ
In response to the concerns raised by Representative Taylor, the House of Representatives has tasked its Committee on Commerce, Contract, and Monopoly with investigating the bureaucratic bottlenecks. The committee has been given one week to conduct the probe and submit a comprehensive report.

๐Ÿค CURBING REVENUE LOSS AND ENSURING ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ“Š
The investigation reflects the legislature's commitment to addressing challenges in the import-export sector, aiming to curb revenue loss and enhance economic efficiency. The outcome of the committee's findings will likely influence potential legislative and regulatory changes to streamline the trade processes and foster a more conducive environment for commerce in Liberia.

Monrovia, Liberia โ€” President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr.'s secret trip to Ghana has reportedly unveiled plans for the establishment of Liberia's long-awaited War and Economic Crimes Court. The court aims to try perpetrators of the country's 14-year brutal fratricidal conflict, with Winneba, a Ghanaian seaport town, identified as the venue for trials and serving sentences.

Reports indicate that approximately $200 million has been earmarked to finance the court's operations. The allocation raises questions about the distribution of funds between Liberia and Ghana. The specifics of the financial arrangements remain unclear.

๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš–๏ธ CULTURAL AMBASSADOR IN COURT DRAMA - LEGAL ADVISOR ACCUSED OF INTERFERENCE! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš–๏ธ๐Ÿ”

Monrovia, Liberia โ€” Liberia's Cultural Ambassador Julie Endee is shaking up the legal scene, accusing President Boakai's Legal Advisor, Cllr. Benshuben Keita, of meddling in her case with social media personality "Prophet Key." The courtroom saga unfolds with twists and turns, raising eyebrows in the corridors of justice.

Ambassador Endee filed a complaint with Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, alleging that Cllr. Keita influenced the dismissal of criminal charges against Prophet Key. The charges stemmed from Prophet Key's alleged threats and online attacks against Endee, tarnishing her reputation and causing mental distress. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ๐Ÿ’”

In a dramatic turn, the Monrovia City Court dismissed the case without Endee's knowledge, prompting her to seek justice. Endee claims that Keita, inappropriately stepping into Ministry of Justice matters, orchestrated the dismissal. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธโš–๏ธ

The legal battleground includes accusations of defamation, threats, and even claims that Endee allegedly sought inappropriate relationships with political figures. The courtroom drama highlights the intersection of law, politics, and social media in Liberia.

Endee implores Chief Justice Yuoh to investigate Keita's alleged interference, invoking justice and the rule of law. As the Supreme Court grapples with accusations of interference, legal experts ponder the implications for the independence of the judiciary. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿค”

Will Chief Justice Yuoh order an investigation into the alleged meddling, ensuring justice prevails? The unfolding courtroom saga tests Liberia's commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens from online abuse. ๐ŸŒโš–๏ธ

๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ’ผ SPEAKER KOFFA RESPONDS TO BUDGET CRITICS: "NO POLITICS WITH PEOPLE'S LIVELIHOODS" ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Monrovia, Liberia โ€” Speaker J. Fonati Koffa faces scrutiny over the swift passage of President Boakai's US$41.3 million budget, with critics questioning the depth of legislative scrutiny. Koffa, however, defends the process, emphasizing the need for timely government functioning.

At a press conference, Koffa dismissed claims that the budget lacked scrutiny, asserting that it received careful consideration. He defended the lower house's actions, stating that the majority of lawmakers understood the budget's intricacies and voted accordingly. ๐Ÿ“Šโœ…

The Speaker, representing Grand Kru County District #2, expressed a commitment to transparency and accountability. He underlined the importance of avoiding political maneuvers that could delay salary payments for civil servants or hinder government operations.

Koffa's rhetorical question, "Did I want to have the budget and embarrass the government to reject it?" reveals the delicate balance between political posturing and the practical need for government functionality. ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

The February spending bill allocates funds for civil servant salaries (63%), debt servicing (14%), the president's 100-day deliverables agenda (5%), and other goods and services (5%). Koffa prioritizes maintaining the government's operational capacity over political point-scoring. ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

In a country navigating political complexities, Speaker Koffa's stance reflects a commitment to governance that prioritizes stability and service delivery. The debate around budget scrutiny underscores the delicate interplay between politics and governance in Liberia. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ท

๐Ÿ›‘๐Ÿค AIRPORT VIP LOUNGE DRAMA: WEAH DENIED ACCESS ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ›‘

Monrovia, Liberia โ€” Tensions rise as former President George Weah faces denial of access to the new VIP Lounge at the Robert International Airport. Allegedly, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr.'s protocol officer has instructed security not to permit Weah's use of the facility.

As Weah is set to return to the country, reports indicate that the new VIP Lounge's doors remain locked, with President Boakai's protocol allegedly directing Weah's team to use the older facility instead. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

The move has sparked speculations about political tensions and gestures of authority within Liberia's political landscape. The denial of access to a VIP facility typically reserved for top government officials underscores the sensitive nature of political transitions.

While the specifics of the situation remain unclear, the incident highlights the complexities and potential frictions in the relationships between incumbent and former leaders. Weah's team is expected to navigate the situation diplomatically to avoid escalation.

The denial of access to a VIP lounge may seem symbolic, but in the context of Liberian politics, it carries significance. As the nation observes this unfolding episode, it raises questions about the tone and nature of the relationship between the current and former leaders.

Informed Liberian Today Response to Facebook Comment: Doubts Surrounding Drug Story and Call for Action

Dear Facebook User,

We appreciate your engagement and your skepticism regarding the recent drug-related developments in Liberia. Transparency and accountability are crucial elements in maintaining public trust, especially in matters as significant as the fight against drug trafficking.

While we understand your doubts about the veracity of the drug story, it's essential to emphasize the need for a thorough investigation to address these concerns. The situation has sparked widespread questions about the conduct of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) and its newly appointed head, Abe Kromah.

In light of these concerns, here are some key points and questions to consider:

Lack of Clarity on Mr. Japan's Release:

The circumstances surrounding Mr. Japan's release after paying a substantial amount require clarification. Can the LDEA provide a transparent account of the events leading to his release and the utilization of the funds?

Missing Confiscated Drugs:

The reported disappearance of the confiscated drugs from the LDEA headquarters raises significant alarms. What measures are in place to ensure the proper handling and secure storage of seized evidence?

Abe Kromah's Swift Actions:

Given Abe Kromah's recent appointment and lack of prior field experience in Liberia, how did he swiftly identify and pursue drug dealers within his first week in office? What strategies and intelligence guided these operations?

Personal Connection Between Mr. Japan and Abe Kromah:

Mr. Japan's admission of a personal connection with Abe Kromah is troubling. Can Kromah provide assurances that personal relationships do not compromise the agency's operations and decision-making processes?

It is crucial for the Liberian public to receive clear and satisfactory answers to these questions to uphold the credibility of the ongoing fight against drug trafficking. President Boakai's administration must address these concerns promptly to maintain public confidence in the institutions responsible for ensuring law and order.

We encourage continued vigilance from the public and expect the government to take necessary actions to investigate and resolve these issues promptly.

Sincerely,

Gather 'round, folks, for the chronicles of a scandal that makes soap operas look like lullabies! In Liberia, the Criminal Court โ€˜Cโ€™ has become the stage for a jaw-dropping saga involving the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-information Services (LISGIS). Buckle up for this economic sabotage tale!

Picture this: The director general, Francis F. Wreh, and his trio of deputies, Lawrence George, Wilmot Smith, and Dominic Paye, found themselves on the wrong side of the law. Their alleged crime? A staggering misapplication of approximately US$1,795,000 earmarked for the National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) in 2021.

The charges? Oh, they're like a menu of financial misdeeds โ€“ suspicious transactions, negligence in following financial protocols, and recruitment missteps that would make a rookie fraudster blush. They even allegedly dipped into the census fund, spending US$30,720.00 on a second-hand generator without adhering to Liberiaโ€™s Public Procurement Laws.

But wait, there's more! The indictment accuses them of knowingly and willfully authorizing the withdrawal and expenditure of US$70,000.00 from the Census fund. It's a labyrinth of alleged violations โ€“ from misapplication of entrusted property to economic sabotage, with bribery and theft offenses sprinkled in for extra drama.

To escape imprisonment, the quartet pulled a controversial move โ€“ filing a property bond worth a staggering US$5 million. A bond so audacious that it's currently under the microscope of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), which is checking for any irregularities. If this were a movie, we'd call it "Bail Bonds & Betrayal."

As they say, the wheels of justice grind slowly. The LACC has raised an eyebrow at the bond, hinting at potential challenges if irregularities are uncovered. Will this plot twist derail the alleged miscreants' escape plan?

In the drama's latest scene, the LISGIS officials made a court appearance on January 31, briefly tasting the sting of detention. Yet, with bailable charges, they seized the chance to file the controversial property bond. Oh, the tension!

As the courts and the LACC review this economic thriller, the fate of these former LISGIS officials hangs in the balance. Will they be held accountable for the alleged census fund heist, or will they manage to slip through the legal cracks?

Stay tuned for the next episode of "Census Money Chronicles" โ€“ where the truth is stranger than fiction, and justice is an unpredictable plot twist away. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ธ

05/02/2024

Ah, my people, gather 'round for a tale that reads like a Nollywood thriller set in the heart of Monrovia!

So, Christian Geeply Weah, a self-proclaimed "brother" of former President George Weah, turned out to be the star of a scam saga. This 41-year-old trickster allegedly duped a Ukrainian millionaire of over US$4 million with a fake oil block deal. It's like a Liberian twist on the classic "419" scam!

Weah, with an accomplice named Carmen Lisa Woods, tried to sell Liberian crude oil from a non-existent oil block, Block #9. They went all-in with counterfeit public documents, claiming to be legit representatives of the Government of Liberia. But, my people, Block #9? It's like searching for palm wine in the Sahara โ€“ nonexistent!

The plot thickened when Weah, armed with fake documents and claiming to be the former president's brother, hoodwinked the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy into a bogus deal. They promised to sell Seven Hundred Million Barrels of Crude Oil at USD$250.00 per barrel, totaling a whopping USD$175,000,000.00.

But wait, there's more! Weah's forgery spree involved seals of the Republic and the Executive Mansion, adding a touch of presidential legitimacy to his con game. It's like trying to camouflage a rat as a lion!

The Liberia National Police (LNP), however, played detective and unraveled the elaborate scam. Weah got nabbed after allegedly attempting to bribe state security with US$100,000. Oh, the audacity!

In a twist worthy of a courtroom drama, Weah admitted to a laundry list of crimes, from economic sabotage to money laundering. The LNP even claimed he tried to escape the country but was caught red-handed upon his return.

Now, the legal showdown begins. Weah's lawyer claimed the seized money was an extortion attempt, leading to a courtroom tango that left even the LNP scratching their heads. A judge ordered the return of US$12,000 seized from Weah, arguing that the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) should handle such matters.

The LNP, feeling a bit bruised by the legal dance, filed a pet**ion to review the ruling, insisting that the Civil Law Court lacks jurisdiction in this criminal matter. They're not backing down, vowing to bring Weah to justice.

In George Weah's voice, "My people, this scam is wilder than a bush cat chase! Let's hope justice prevails, and Liberia stays scam-free. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ธ " "

02/02/2024

Oh, my people, gather 'round for the latest episode of "Liberia's Got Figures," where the numbers are as slippery as a palm butter soup!

So, first, President Weah declares, "I left a cool US$40 million in the government's account. Like finding money in your pocket when you least expect it!"

But hold on to your lappas, because President Boakai steps up, saying, "Not so fast! It's only US$20.5 million, not the grand US$40 million he's singing about. We're not playing bingo with these numbers!"

Now, enter the star of our show, CBL Governor Alloycious Tarlue, who, in true Liberian fashion, swears to his ma t**i water that President Weah's US$40 million claim is legit. It's like saying, "I saw the money with my own two eyes, not with borrowed glasses!"

The House of Representatives, confused like someone trying to find their way in the Duala market, summons the CBL Governor to spill the financial cassava leaves. After his testimony, they're scratching their heads, wondering if they need a calculator or a juju priest to sort out the numbers.

In the midst of this drama, the CDC party, smelling trouble like a pot of burning jollof rice, demands an apology from President Boakai, accusing him of playing hide-and-seek with the country's finances.

In George Weah's voice, "My people, it's like trying to kick a penalty with a deflated ball. Let's hope they sort out this math mess before the next election! โšฝ๐Ÿ’ธ ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
