The CDC had to lose to WIN

I have told many that CDC’s loss in 2023 was its vindication in history and had it won instead the party might have been terminally obliterated!
Why? Because the lies that began in 2018 would have continued today: the withdrawal of USAID funding would have been attributed to CDC’s “incapacity to build relations with the Americans,” in the same way Liberia’s investment climate, now more difficult under UP, was said to” to have been eroded by the CDC administration”, though investment data shows that the investment curve under the CDC has a positive slope prior to 2018, while the investment curve under the UP has a large and sustained negative slope.
These lies would have snowballed into a morbid mass to mount pressure on the WEAH administration in his second term, enlarging to scope and opportunities for protests, and linking new protests to fake ones as happened on June 7, 2019, virtually occasioning a game of virulent infighting and second-guessing with in a second-term CDC administration.
Lies that began in 2018 would have eventually morphed into “ settled truths,” rendering the political future of the CDC bleak, since the opportunity to disprove the lies , which we now have with a UP victory, would have been lost.
So, in this sense, a loss for the CDC becomes a win. If consecutive wins dooms a movement, it can split or truncate the win to dismantle the propagandist tactic of its opposition. This is essentially what has happened in Liberia.
In the propaganda game, UP has had a strategic advantage over the CDC. The intelligentsia of Liberia has largely not moved toward the CDC and misinformation or disinformation spread by the intelligentsia has a tad more believability. President WEAH, like President Trump, was able to bypass the intelligentsia to win. However, being arrayed against the intelligentsia comes with risks and disadvantages, prominent among them being the propaganda effect!
One effect is that Weah raised doctors salaries from $700 to more than $2000, but these doctors did not flock to his corner politically because of their inherent bias. Instead, they cheered on nurses whose salaries were never cut ( Harmonization protected nurses and teachers. It combined general allowance and basic salary and subjected this total to tax. It made all Government workers pay social security and many nurses belived deduction for social security was a cut in their pay. To reverse harmonization you have to go back to paying two separate salaries which is why I say it is impossible. ) into singing “you harmonized our salaries we harmonized your votes.”
No amount of deliberation or talking could have undone or dismantled this massive ediface of propaganda against the CDC. The most effective agency was to have the party doing the propaganda govern the country so that Liberians have a clear opportunity to compare and contrast.
So as strange as it sounds, the CDC need not lament its loss! Lies and propaganda about “ auditors deaths,” “St Moses’ three boys,” “ 25 million mop up,” “ LRD$16 billion missing,” “President WEAH’s constructions “ “ CDC scaring investors away,”’ “ CDC cuasing NGOs to leave Liberia,” “CENSUS money being stolen “ CDC harmonizing nurses’ salaries” “ CDC not exporting power to La Cote d’Ivoire “ among several other lies would have only been cleared with a loss of political power. Nothing else would have afforded the partt such clarity.
This is because in governance changes can be very subtle and in nature people will always die. So the natural or accidental deaths that happened under the CDC with no Government involvement would also happen under the UP. Harmonization that saved Government of $32 million annually and raised the salaries 15,000 GOL workers would also have to be maintained by the UP. Free tuition, that has given more than 10,000 Liberians access to higher education nationally, but that was described by the UP as a waste and dysfunction, would still have to be maintained by the UP, or else they face a monumental crisis. And the list goes on and on.
This is why opposition politics to the UP cannot be the same as opposition politics to the CDC. UP’s opposition consists in the wares of misinformation it traded with the Liberian electorate, which was unfortunately largely bought, bringing the UP to power. The opposition need only facilitate and enlarge the space that enables Liberians perceive the contradictions between what UP said was possible in governance and what it is now delivering. In understanding this contradiction lies the scope of public appreciation of what the CDC delivered in its six years, less the two years of COVID. In other words, the Opposition only need play the video of Liberians having electoral buyers’ remorse!
It is the post-UNMIL governing by the Unity Party that is fashioning the biggest opportunities for confession about the lies that undid the CDC, as we see in the paper below.
Nothing more nothing less!
