FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STAND Endorses SUP’s April 14 March for Jobs and Justice
Liberia’s foremost grassroots advocacy and accountability movement, the Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND), proudly announces its full endorsement of the April 14 “March for Jobs and Justice,” organised by the Student Unification Party (SUP). This resolute stand underscores STAND’s unwavering commitment to defending democratic values, advancing social justice, and amplifying the voices of ordinary Liberians in their pursuit of meaningful and lasting change.
STAND unequivocally acknowledges that, for decades, the Student Unification Party (SUP) has stood as a moral force and a vanguard of progressive resistance in Liberia, courageously challenging corruption, economic exclusion, and injustice. The Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND)’s solidarity with SUP is rooted in a shared vision of accountability, equitable development, and people-centred governance. This alliance underscores the vital role of intergenerational collaboration in safeguarding Liberia’s democratic future and championing the aspirations of its citizens.
This endorsement comes at a defining moment of profound national distress. Across Liberia, citizens are burdened by deepening economic hardship, a relentless rise in the cost of living, and widespread unemployment—harsh realities that sharply contradict official narratives of progress. The steady erosion of the rule of law, the chronic neglect of critical sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure, and persistent leadership failures have entrenched generational poverty and widened inequality. In this context, STAND recognises and supports SUP’s 75-count indictment as a legitimate expression of public grievance and a resounding call for urgent, transformative reform.
STAND reaffirms that peaceful assembly is a fundamental constitutional and democratic right. The April 14 march represents not merely a protest, but a principled demand for transparency, accountability, and responsive leadership. It is a clarion call for justice on behalf of market women, marginalised youth, underpaid teachers, and struggling citizens whose voices must be heard.
We call upon all patriotic Liberians—students, workers, civil society actors, and defenders of democracy—to join this historic march. Together, we must stand united in pursuit of jobs, justice, and a more equitable and prosperous Liberia.
As the Student Unification Party (SUP) and the Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) join forces, STAND calls on all its members and supporters to stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow patriots in pursuit of a people-driven victory. United in purpose and conviction, we will either witness a triumphant advance for justice or, through lawful and democratic means, firmly resist any excesses of a weaponised state.
STAND therefore remains steadfast and unyielding in its mission to investigate wrongdoing, take decisive action, drive reform, and stand in principled collaboration with all Liberians committed to justice, equity, and the defence of the public good.
