Second Sunday Message Recap 🙏🏾
Theme: The Cost of Commitment
Text: Luke 9:57–62
Today, Rev. Wonta delivered a timely and challenging message on the subject of commitment in the Christian faith. Drawing from Luke 9:57–62, he reminded the congregation that following Christ is not merely a declaration of faith but a deliberate, lifelong commitment that comes with a cost.
Rev. Wonta emphasized that, as Christians, we must be committed to reading and living by the Word of God. Commitment is a key factor that drives spiritual growth and success, but it does not come without sacrifice. True commitment requires faithfulness, perseverance, and a willingness to deny self. According to the measure of our commitment, we position ourselves for God’s blessings.
Using the ultimate example of Jesus Christ, Rev. Wonta highlighted that even in suffering, Jesus remained committed to His divine assignment. Despite being beaten and crucified, Christ did not abandon His purpose. In the same way, believers are called not only to profess commitment but to demonstrate it through practical actions, including:
1. Obeying the Word of God.
2. Remaining faithful to the commitments we have made to Him.
The message further stressed that following Christ comes with responsibility and sacrifice. Many believers, Rev. Wonta noted, attempt to serve God with conditions choosing convenience over obedience. However, genuine service to God must be rooted in commitment, not conditions.
He warned that many Christians are abandoning their commitments and being drawn back into worldly pursuits, yet God is not concerned about age, status, or position. What matters to God is the heart of commitment. Scripture assures us that when God sees our sincere commitment, He responds with grace and blessings, and He honors those who faithfully serve Him.
Rev. Wonta concluded by reminding the congregation that our commitment must be directed to God and His Word not to pastors, leaders, parents, or the congregation. Our devotion must be spiritual, not emotional; grounded in faith, not feelings.
The message served as a call to self-examination, urging every believer to renew their commitment to Christ and to follow Him wholeheartedly, regardless of the cost.
