Liberiaβs push to unlock social media monetization opportunities for local creators took center stage as officials of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) held discussions with TikTok during the 3rd Safer Internet Summit 2026.
The engagement was led by Commissioner Patrick Honnah and Commissioner Ben A. Fofana, who used the summit to advocate for greater digital opportunities for Liberian content creators.
According to the LTA, discussions with TikTok focused on enabling monetization for Liberian creators, promoting digital inclusion, and strengthening the capacity of local content producers. The talks also addressed the growing role of artificial intelligence in shaping modern digital content and the importance of responsible online engagement.
TikTok has agreed, following a request from the LTA, to send experts to Liberia to conduct training sessions for local creators. The training will focus on the dos and donβts of producing quality content, building audience engagement, and understanding platform guidelines that attract commercial partnerships.
The summit brings together policymakers, regulators, and technology stakeholders from across Europe and Africa to explore how artificial intelligence can be used as a tool for positive digital development while addressing challenges such as cyberbullying, misinformation, and online abuse.
