Wedabo District, June 20,2026 ( Grand Kru TV)- Residents of Grandcess, the historic coastal city in Grand Kru County, including local authorities, are expected to break ground in July 2026 for the construction of a mini sports stadium.
According to our source, household contributions of cash and materials have already begun in the community. More than 1,000 concrete blocks have been produced and are ready for use as construction starts.
The targeted budget for the project has not yet been finalized, but sources describe citizen contributions as commendable.
A Grandcess citizen based in the United States, who requested anonymity, is also expected to support the effort. The same individual previously funded the construction of the local market and other community projects. Other citizens are expected to support community efforts to build the standardized sports pitch.
Grandcess, founded in the early 19th century, is one of Liberia’s oldest coastal settlements and the cultural heart of Grand Kru County.
Historically a major trading and fishing hub, the town played a key role in commerce along the southeastern coast. Known for its resilience and strong sense of community, Grandcess continues to serve as a center for education, trade, and local governance in the county.
The planned stadium is expected to provide youth with a safe space for sports and recreation, promote unity, and boost local development.
