MAJOR/ATTORNEY-AT-LAW DANICIOUS KWIA RETURNS TO LIBERIA FOLLOWING HIS SERVICE AS UNITED NATIONS MILITARY OBSERVER IN SOUTH SUDAN
Major/Atty-at-law Danicious Kwia who served as United Nations Military Observer in South Sudan (UNMISS) from 27 October 2023 to 10 May 2025, has finally returned safely to Liberia after successfully ending his tour of duty.
Major / Atty-at-law Kwia is a seasoned military professional with over 19 years of dedicated services. He has a unique combination of leadership, expertise, and commitment to fostering military operations, law enforcement, peacekeeping and psychosocial support, aligning seamlessly with the United Nations' mission to uphold global peace and human rights.
During his tour of duty as a United Nations Military Observer in South Sudan (UNMISS), Major/Atty-at-Law Kwia supported the implementation of the South Sudan Comprehensive Peace Agreement (the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan). He also engaged with key stakeholders in enhancing community security.
While working in South Sudan, Major/Atty-at-Law Kwia was appointed as UNMO’s (United Nations Military Observer) Focal Person for Electoral Affairs in Jonglei State. He obtained a Certificate of Elections’ Management from BRIDGE, a Great Britain based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
While serving with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) as a Battle Captain from 2019 to 2021, he managed the flow of information Tactical Operations center and assisted in the command and control of current operations.
Additionally, during his past 18 years of dedicated services, he occupied several posts in the Armed Forces of Liberia such as Military Police Commander, Provost Marshall General (PMG), and he currently serves as Deputy Judge Advocate General for the Armed Forces of Liberia where he champions legal reforms, trains personnel in compliance standards, and provides counsel on complex bilateral agreements such as MoUs. He ensures justice while preserving military integrity as well.
His academic achievements from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia, and Criminal Justice Administration from the African Methodist Episcopal Zion University College (AMEZUC), complemented by certifications in peacekeeping and psychosocial counseling, have equipped him to effectively navigate multifaceted challenges during his tenure with the United Nations Development Program and World Vision International, and finally the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations in both Mali and South Sudan.
He also participated in the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Liberia, in the capacity of Statement Taker for Human Rights Mapping.
Finally, Major/Atty-At-Law Kwia’s experiences have culminated to his career aspirations to serve humanity on both national and global levels.
