President Boakai Calls Burkinabè Influx a Major National Concern…

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has expressed serious concern over the growing influx of Burkinabè nationales into Liberia, describing it as one of his administration’s most pressing challenges.

Speaking during a Cabinet meeting, he emphasized that more than 80,000 Burkinabè nationals are currently in the country, many involved in agriculture and mining, and stressed that undocumented migration cannot be ignored.

He recalled that concerns about Burkinabè settlements in Liberia have existed for more than a decade and now require decisive government action.

President Boakai comments followed an incident in Gbarpolu County where predominantly Burkinabè miners allegedly resisted government inspectors conducting an anti-illegal mining operation.

The government also views the situation as a national security issue because many migrants are living in remote areas, often without proper documentation or oversight.

In response, authorities are working to document Burkinabè nationals, determine their legal status, and strengthen monitoring of mining and agricultural activities across the country.

As such, Realizing this potential requires strong institutions, competent public servants, motivated health professionals, and effective governance systems capable of delivering meaningful results for citizens.

He stressed that the continent can overcome its challenges only through “collaboration, shared learning, and the development of collective solutions tailored to Africa’s unique realities.”

“We remain dedicated to building a strong network of professionals, institutions, and governments working collectively to improve the lives of the people we serve,” Dr. Joekai added. He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting excellence in public service administration and health sector leadership.
