Shelling traps 77 miners in Donetsk region - reports
Shelling has trapped 77 miners in a coal mine in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, Russia's RIA news agency reports.

The miners were left trapped underground after power to the Zasyadko mine was cut off.

"As a result of shelling by (Ukrainian forces), power to the Zasyadko mine in Donetsk was cut off, 77 miners remain underground," RIA said, citing the Russian-backed separatist region's territorial defence.

Earlier today, the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD) said Russia had probably renewed its efforts to advance south of Ukraine's eastern city of Izium in the last 48hrs.

On Twitter, it said its goal was to pe*****te deeper into the Donetsk region and envelope the pocket around the embattled city of Severodonetsk, which has witnessed intense fighting, from the north. Source: skynews.com

chapel at University of Cambridge
A banner in support of the war in Ukraine has been tied across the spires on King's College Chapel at the University of Cambridge.

The sign, which has been hung across the top of the 80ft building in the city centre, reads "Slava Ukraini", which roughly translates to "Glory to Ukraine".

A King's College spokesperson said: "The King's community is appalled by the suffering and loss of life inflicted by the Russian military across Ukraine in recent months, and the disastrous effect the hostilities are having on the lives of thousands of people, including displaced students and scholars.

"While we regret the risks associated with the installation of a banner hung between the spires of the chapel, both in regard to the physical fabric of the historic building, and to the dangers now posed to those required to remove it, we are fully supportive of its sentiment.

"Since the invasion we have been providing assistance to researchers stranded by the outbreak of war, as well as recently appointing the first of three displaced scholars to postdoctoral positions within the College, and establishing a fund for refugee students from all areas of conflict." Russian forces continuing to deploy additional troops to support eastern offensive
The Kremlin are deploying more troops along Ukraine's eastern flank in an effort to bolster their operations in the Severodonetsk and Lysychansk area, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports.

Citing Ukraine's defence ministry spokesperson Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, the US-based think tank said Russian forces were transferring tanks, armoured personnel carriers, engineering equipment, and vehicles closer to the eastern city of Severodonetsk.

"The Russian military has concentrated the vast majority of its available combat power to capture Severodonetsk and Lysychansk at the expense of other axes of advance and is suffering heavy casualties to do so," the ISW reported. Source: syknews.com.

Russia now occupies 20% of Ukraine's territory: Zelenskyy
Russia currently occupies about 20% of Ukraine's territory, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video address to Luxembourg's parliament.

"We have to defend ourselves against almost the entire Russian army. All combat-ready Russian military formations are involved in this aggression," he said.

The front lines of the fighting extended across more than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) of land, Zelenskyy added.

Russian forces have been making steady gains in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, which Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called an "unconditional priority" for Moscow. Ukrainian officials describe the territory as almost entirely destroyed by Russian bombing and shelling.
