PRESS ADVISORY

Ministry of Education Relaunches “Back to My Classroom” Campaign to Advance Inclusive Learning Across Liberia

(July 2, 2025 – Monrovia, Liberia)

In a landmark effort to strengthen educational access nationwide, the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ministries of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Health, UNICEF, and development partners, officially relaunched the Back to My Classroom community engagement campaign on June 30, 2025 in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

This transformative initiative aspires to reintegrate 250,000 out-of-school children into the classroom over the next three years.

In addition to raising awareness, the campaign is committed to providing practical solutions, including the issuance of birth certificates to remove administrative barriers and secure every child’s right to a quality education.

During the ceremony, Assistant Minister for Basic and Secondary Education, Abba G. Karnga, emphasized the shared duty of parents, guardians, and communities to ensure no child is left behind. “This campaign is a collective movement that calls us all to action,” he affirmed.

Deputy Minister for Administration, Hon. Yekeh Y. Forpah, expressed gratitude to all partners and stakeholders for their steadfast support, urging families to seize this opportunity to empower their children as “the future leaders of tomorrow.”
Representatives from UNICEF, Save the Children, Educate HER, Rising Academy, and Street Child commended the Ministry’s leadership and pledged continued collaboration to achieve the campaign’s objectives.

A cornerstone of Back to My Classroom is the implementation of comprehensive community assessments to identify obstacles affecting school enrollment.

These insights will inform targeted strategies that strengthen engagement and improve learning outcomes.

This united commitment reflects Liberia’s resolve to create a brighter, more inclusive future where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

We invite all Liberians to support this vital initiative—because every child deserves the chance to thrive.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Statement from Mr. Abdullah Kamara, Suspended Chairman
Liberia Telecommunications Authority
Monrovia, Liberia – July 1, 2025

Fellow Liberians,

Following my recent suspension by His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., and the public discourse that has since followed, I find it necessary to speak directly to you and provide clarity on the matter.

I fully welcome the President’s decision to initiate a transparent investigation into the allegations. Transparency is a cornerstone of good governance, and I am prepared to cooperate fully and openly with any and all inquiries. I have absolutely nothing to hide.

To be clear, the issue raised by the General Auditing Commission (GAC) concerns a project awarded in 2023—prior to my tenure as Acting Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA). According to the GAC report, the previous LTA board failed to follow Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) procedures when awarding a contract to Tamma Corporation, a company I founded. It is this compliance issue that has resulted in my name being linked to the matter.

Let me emphasize unequivocally: I did not award any contract to myself or my company during my time as Acting Chairman. The project in question occurred before I assumed leadership. At the time, I was a private businessman offering legitimate services, which were contracted by a recognized public institution under standard terms. While I am ready to provide full details regarding my company, I cannot speak to the decisions made by the leadership that preceded me. I firmly believe in due process and will cooperate accordingly.

Throughout my service at the LTA, I have acted with integrity—working to expand access to telecommunications, ensure fair regulation, and drive innovation for the benefit of all Liberians, especially the youth. My conscience is clear. My public record is open, verifiable, and speaks for itself. My priority now is to clear my name and protect my reputation.

I thank President Boakai for his leadership and his demonstrated commitment to accountability. I fully respect the authority of the Executive and the importance of maintaining public trust in our national institutions.

In a firm demonstration of transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law, I, Abdullah L. Kamara, respectfully call on the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to promptly investigate the allegations outlined in the recent GAC report regarding the LTA during my time in service.

Liberia’s fight against corruption must be impartial, objective, and free of political interference or delay. As the saying goes, “justice delayed is justice denied.” Therefore, it is vital that this matter be resolved swiftly and transparently.

My call for this investigation is not only a legal obligation. It is a moral and ethical duty. I fully recognize and support the roles of our integrity institutions, and I believe their independence and credibility are essential to strengthening our democracy and ensuring a just and functional system of governance. This moment is a test of our national commitment to fairness, justice, and institutional accountability.

I reaffirm my willingness to fully cooperate with the LACC, the Ministry of Justice, or any competent legal authority in pursuit of the truth. Liberia deserves public servants who are willing to stand before the law, and institutions that operate without fear or favor.

I remain committed to ensuring that truth, accountability, and justice prevail—not just for the sake of my own name, but for the integrity of Liberia’s governance processes.

I humbly urge that this process be allowed to proceed fairly, without prejudice, and in accordance with the presumption of innocence that every Liberian is guaranteed under the law.

Sincerely,
Abdullah Kamara
Suspended Chairman
Liberia Telecommunications Authority

Banjor, Liberia – July 1, 2025

In a decisive move to uphold Banjor Community’s participation in the ongoing 2025 District 17 Annual Sports Tournament, the Coordinator of the Banjor Sports Association, Darlington J. Freeman, has fulfilled a crucial financial obligation by settling a total of L$18,000.

The payment, made on Tuesday, July 1, covers both registration fees and outstanding liabilities, marking a significant step in stabilizing the Community’s standing in the tournament.
