‎Monrovia, July 4, 2025 – The Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA) has strongly denied reports of a go-slow action by its employees, branding a recent story by the Daily Observer newspaper as false, misleading, and damaging.

‎In a press release issued on Friday, LACRA clarified that contrary to the Daily Observer’s July 2 publication, employees of the institution are not on any form of strike or go-slow action. The management asserted that all staff are actively engaged in carrying out their duties in support of the new leadership headed by Acting Director General, Hon. Dan Saryee.

‎“This report is malicious and baseless. It was published without any attempt to contact the institution for verification,” the statement read. “We categorically deny the existence of any go-slow and view this as a deliberate attempt to undermine the credibility and growing progress of LACRA.”

‎The press release further accused certain individuals of conspiring to tarnish the image of the institution by feeding the public misinformation, and it urged the Liberian public to disregard the Daily Observer’s report in its entirety.

‎According to the release, LACRA employees have instead rallied around the new management team, expressing their commitment to the agency’s mission of regulating and improving Liberia’s agricultural commodity sector. “Our workers remain fully supportive of the leadership and are focused on building a vibrant institution for the benefit of the Liberian people,” the statement added.

‎To address recent developments and present its forward-looking agenda, LACRA announced that it will hold a major news conference soon. During the event, Acting DG Dan Saryee is expected to outline his vision for institutional reform and modernization.

‎The statement comes amidst mounting allegations that its suspended Director General Christopher Sankolo is financing media outlets to publish damaging reports about the agency.

‎The release signed by Gordon G. Garway, Director of Public Relations at LACRA, comes in the wake of public concern surrounding the recent suspensions of Director General Christopher Sankolo and Deputy Director for Administration Chea B. Garley.

‎President Joseph Nyuma Boakai suspended the two officials on June 26, 2025, citing financial mismanagement and administrative malpractice.

‎In light of the suspensions, the public has turned its attention to the newly appointed acting leadership of LACRA, watching closely to see whether they will uphold transparency and accountability or follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.

A wave of public confusion and concern has emerged following conflicting reports from senior officials at the Liberia Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA) regarding the country’s cocoa and coffee export figures between 2023 and 2024.

In a recent interview conducted in B**g County, LACRA’s Director General, Mr. Christopher Sankolo, painted a glowing picture of the agency’s performance under his leadership. He stated that Liberia exported 35,000 metric tons of cocoa and coffee in 2024, a significant leap from the 2,660 metric tons exported in 2023 — the year he assumed office.

However, shortly after this statement, a contrasting set of figures was presented by LACRA’s Deputy Director General for Operations and Technical Services, Mr. Alpha Gongolee, during a separate press engagement. According to Mr. Gongolee, the numbers provided by the Director General do not reflect the actual data recorded by the operations department.

Gongolee reported that when their administration took over, the accumulated export total stood at 24,056.5 metric tons of cocoa and 107 metric tons of coffee — a significant difference from the figures cited by DG Sankolo. He further added that from January to May 2025, LACRA exported 18,801.994 metric tons of cocoa and 50 metric tons of coffee.

Moreover, Gongolee claimed that the actual exports from January 2024 to May 2025 were 42,858.494 metric tons of cocoa and 157 metric tons of coffee, figures that again do not align with the Director General’s statement of 35,000 metric tons for the entire year of 2024.

These contradictory accounts have sparked questions among Liberian citizens, media practitioners, and stakeholders in the agricultural sector. "Who is telling the real data?" has become the central question echoing across public platforms.

Beyond the numerical discrepancies, Gongolee emphasized significant structural developments within LACRA under his department’s purview. He revealed that the number of active exporting companies had grown from 10 (4 international and 6 local) to 31 (11 international and 20 local). Additionally, he highlighted that the agency’s network of agents expanded from just 8 to over 250, and that 16 regional agencies have now been established where previously there were none.

While these developments point to improvements in sectoral organization and stakeholder engagement, the conflicting export data has raised red flags about internal coordination and communication within LACRA’s top leadership.

Alpha Gongolee use the occasion to commit his office continuing efforts aimed at improving Liberia's agricultural sector.

Citizens and Social Media users are calling on LACRA to clarify the situation with a unified, independently verified report. Transparency, they say, is essential to maintaining both investor confidence and public trust in the country's commodity export sector.

WE THE PEOPLE: NSA/Police Assassination Attempt Fails—
We Will Peacefully Rise on July 17th, Even Through Bullets!

The Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND), in collaboration with a broad-based coalition of Liberians under the banner WE THE PEOPLE, strongly condemns what appears to be a targeted attack carried out by operatives of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Liberia National Police (LNP).

In this official statement, WE THE PEOPLE Movement describes these joint actions (allegedly) orchestrated by security agents loyal to the Boakai-led government as desperate, fearful, and cowardly tactics feebly aimed at silencing dissent before the July 17th nationwide peaceful resistance.

NSA/LNP DUPORT ROAD ATTACK

On Monday, May 5th, between 10:30 and 11:00 PM, STAND Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu—one of the leading voices behind the July 17 peaceful protest—was ambushed near the Duport Road traffic light. Unknown assailants, including a female accomplice, attempted to forcibly open his vehicle. During the incidence, one attacker was visibly armed with firearm.

Thanks to divine grace, the Chairman was able to evade the attackers by skillfully maneuvering through oncoming traffic. His tinted windows and quick thinking prevented what could have been a tragic outcome. The only damage sustained was to the front passenger door handle.

THE PAYNESVILE JOE-BAR INCIDENT

Two days later, on Wednesday, May 7th, around 12:30 PM, another attempt occurred. An unidentified sedan deliberately blocked Mr. Morlu’s vehicle in a narrow driveway near Joe Bar, Paynesville. Recognizing the threat, he re-entered his vehicle advanced toward the smaller assailant vehicle, and forced it to retreat.

These are not isolated incidents. They appear to be deliberate, coordinated and state-sanctioned operations; and they have failed.

AN EMERGING DICTATORSHIP THREATENS OUR DEMOCRACY

As Liberians awaken and rise to confront this emerging dictatorship, these attempted crackdowns only reaffirm the urgent need for mass civic resistance. The growing threats underscore the danger to our democracy and reinforce the call to defend our republic from corruption, constitutional abuse, and autocracy.

WE THE PEOPLE remain undeterred. These cowardly attacks only strengthen our resolve. Hence, we are neither surprised nor shaken. Our counterintelligence units—embedded within the security apparatus—have long intercepted credible plans by government operatives to surveil, trail, and even eliminate key organizers of the WE THE PEOPLE movement, led by STAND and progressive revolutionaries forces within the civil rights movements.

These plans, reportedly coordinated by elements within the NSA and LNP Intelligence Unit, include illegal wiretapping, 24-hour surveillance, tailing of vehicles, infiltration of meetings, and even contracting criminal elements to carry out attacks against peaceful protest leaders.

OUR RESOLVE IS UNBREAKABLE

As the regime grows more desperate, our commitment grows stronger. No amount of surveillance, harassment, or assassination plots will deter us. These dark tactics only validate the righteousness of our cause. We remain unshaken, ready—even to the point of martyrdom—for the redemption of Liberia.

Let the corrupt cabal know: no bullet, no secret agent, and no criminal proxy can silence a movement whose time has come.

This is not a plea but a call to courage; Liberia’s youth are encouraged to take heart. These unfolding attacks prove the regime does not defend democracy; it wages war against it.

THE BOAKAI ADMINISTRATION HAS CROSSED A DANGEROUS RED LINE

From defying Supreme Court rulings and illegally removing tenured officials to manipulating legislative processes—this government has abandoned all democratic pretense. It has crossed a dangerous red line that cannot go unanswered.

WE THE PEOPLE insist: when leaders attempt to crown themselves kings, the people must rise as revolutionaries. We will not compromise. We will not retreat. We will not be silenced.

We thank the brave patriots within the NSA and LNP who continue to inform us of these plots in real time, even as their institutions (especially the NSA) are overrun by loyalists of the Vice President.

No matter how deeply institutions are weaponized against us, our stand for change in the motherland remains unshaken. If true transformation demands our blood, then let it flow for Liberia’s redemption. Let none fear—this revolution is not the will of man, but a movement ordained by history, justice, and the divine hand of God.

A FINAL WARNING

President Boakai must now confront the voice of reason and abandon his reckless defiance of the Supreme Court. He must immediately cease his interference in the legislative branch, restore the status quo ante as ordered by the Court, and return tenured positions wrongfully stripped from professionals and handed to loyalists. Lift the unjust restrictions on motorbike riders who depend on transport for survival. Raise civil servant salaries to a livable minimum of US$500 per worker. Revive our collapsing healthcare system. Prosecute the corrupt within your ranks. Amend the Constitution to reduce the overextended tenure of elected officials and introduce the people’s right to recall them. Above all, prioritize the economy—Liberians are starving, suffering, and dying under your neglect.

WE THE PEOPLE deliver this warning to the oppressors: “You may kill 100 fathers, but 300 sons will rise in defiance.”

This is no exaggeration. It is both a solemn warning—and a prophecy foretold.

We repeat: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Signed,

WE THE PEOPLE

Was this statement not a threat to the state?
