Breaking News………………..

East International's Responsibility and Political Corruption

East International, a chain-owned company engaged in road construction and crushed rock mining in District 1, Magibi County, has failed to meet its corporate social responsibility (CSR) obligations for a couple of years. This has led to serious health hazards for residents and poor road connections, undermining the well-being of the community.

Allegations have surfaced that the district legislator, “Rep. Roland O Cooper “, is receiving financial kickbacks from East International in exchange for not holding the company accountable for its negligence.

This raises serious concerns about political corruption and the abuse of public office. When we engage him in person his approach was so demeaning, and aggressive in response. That didn't face cooperation, with our investigation, therefore, we had no choice but to publish the information as part of our ongoing investigation.

This situation highlights the urgent need for transparency, accountability, and ethical governance. The people of District 1 deserve a fair and just system where corporate responsibility and public interest are prioritised. The Following

UPDATE: 🇱🇷Liberia Seizes Record $652 Million in Drugs 😲‼️

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has confiscated illegal drugs worth over US$652 million in just six months, according to Acting Deputy Ernest T. Tarpeh.

This major achievement demonstrates the agency's strong commitment to stopping drug trafficking across Liberia's borders. Additionally, the LDEA has turned over US$1.2 million in drug-related cash to the government, with another US$150,000 deposited in February. Tarpeh emphasized that his officers refuse to misuse drug money, calling it "not good money to eat." The agency was honored at a ceremony in Margibi County for their dedicated work fighting drug crime in the nation.

The Shadow of Corruption; The Fall of Rep. Roland O. Cooper

In the heart of the Republic of Liberia, where the rivers run deep and the forests stretch endlessly, lies Margibi Count a region rich in natural resources, especially Kiafah town, but often overlooked in the political landscape. It is here that Rep. Roland O. Cooper, a long-serving member of the House of Representatives, has been a symbol of hope and progress for the people of District 1. However, beneath the surface of his public image lies a troubling truth that has come to light, shaking the foundations of trust in his leadership.

But recently, allegations of corruption have surfaced, implicating him in East International, a construction company based in the county. East International, known for its involvement in rock mining and infrastructure projects, has been at the centre of a growing controversy.

According to the allegations, Rep. Cooper is a stakeholder in East International, holding a significant share in the company. The company, which was supposed to be a model of corporate responsibility, has been accused of failing to meet its obligations to the community where its concession is located. Instead of investing in sustainable practices, East International has been accused of prioritising profit over people, leading to a cascade of negative consequences for the residents of District 1 Margibi County.

The first sign of trouble was the deterioration of road connectivity. Despite promises within their (MOU) of improved infrastructure, the roads that lead to their company and the surrounding area have become increasingly dangerous, with potholes and poor maintenance leading to frequent accidents. Residents, who once relied on these roads for transportation and trade, now face the frustration of unreliable travel.

Then came the health hazards. The rock mining operations, which were supposed to be conducted with environmental safeguards, have been linked to a rise in respiratory illnesses and other health issues among the local population. The air quality in the area has worsened, with reports of dust and fumes from the elderly.
Air pollution has also become a growing concern. The mining activities have led to the degradation of the surrounding environment,

The allegations against Rep. Cooper are not new. They have been circulating for years, but it was only recently that the full extent of his involvement in East International came to light. According to sources, Cooper has been known to receive kickbacks from the company, which has allowed him to maintain his political influence and secure funding for his cosmetic political inivitive. This has created a system where the interests of the company and the politician are aligned, often at the expense of the people they are supposed to serve.

The fallout from these allegations has been significant. Local leaders and community members have called for an investigation into the matter, demanding transparency and accountability. The people of Margibi County, who once looked up to Rep. Cooper now find themselves questioning the very foundation of their trust in their representatives. As the story unfolds, the community faces a difficult choice: to continue to support a leader who has been accused of corruption, or to demand change and hold him accountable for his actions. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

President Boakai Launches Ministry of Local Government, Dedicates Decentralization Building; Urges Liberians to “Forget the Past and Turn on the Light”

Monday, April 20, 2026

Executive Mansion, Monrovia– President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has officially launched the Ministry of Local Government and dedicated the newly constructed Joseph Nyuma Boakai Decentralization Building, marking a significant milestone in Liberia’s ongoing decentralization efforts.

The establishment of the Ministry represents a major step in the full implementation of the Local Government Act of September 19, 2018, which provides the legal and regulatory framework for advancing decentralization and strengthening local governance. The initiative is aimed at ensuring that development priorities are locally driven and that citizens across Liberia have greater opportunities to participate in decision-making processes.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Boakai called on Liberians to move beyond the past and focus on building a stronger future.

Reflecting on Liberia’s national journey, the President revisited his enduring message: “Think Liberia, Love Liberia, Build Liberia.”

“At that time, Liberia was 168 years old, and I asked a simple but profound question: Are we where we should be?” the President recalled. He averred that, “Today, as our country approaches 179 years, we must ask ourselves that same question again. But we are not here to dwell on the past. As I always say, do not curse the darkness—turn on the light.”

President Boakai emphasized that decentralization is central to his Administration’s vision of inclusive governance, noting that empowering local authorities will enhance accountability and bring government closer to the people.

The President also paid tribute to traditional leaders, including chiefs and elders, who continue to play a vital role in maintaining peace and resolving conflicts in their communities despite limited recognition and support.

Noted the President, “They hold this country together in many ways, yet often lack the dignity and benefits they deserve. Today, we honor and appreciate them,”

Highlighting the need for a shift in national mindset, President Boakai urged Liberians to reject hardship as a norm and to aspire for better living conditions.

“Our people deserve safe drinking water, good roads, reliable electricity, quality education, and a healthy environment and that is why we were elected,” affirming, “that is what we are committed to delivering.”

The President commended the Minister of Local Government, the National Legislature, and development partners for their support, noting that genuine commitment attracts meaningful partnerships.

Dedicating the JNB Decentralization Building, President Boakai expressed pride in the new facility while stressing the importance of replicating such development initiatives across the country.

“Monrovia is not Liberia,” he declared,” stressing, “Every Liberian, everywhere, deserves improved living conditions and equal access to opportunities.”

He further acknowledged that while some policy decisions by his Administration may appear difficult, they are necessary to ensure long-term national progress, particularly in improving infrastructure and environmental conditions.

In closing, President Boakai encouraged public officials to remain focused and receptive to constructive criticism while staying committed to national development goals.

“We must listen, but we must not be distracted. Like a traveler who ignores barking dogs to reach his destination, we must stay the course and move forward,” he admonished.
