‎Monrovia, Liberia - The Class of Alpha of the William V.S. Tubman High School in Sinkor has honored Mr. Terrence Woods, Special Presidential Aide to the President of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, for his exceptional service, leadership, and contributions to national development.

‎The colorful honoring ceremony took place on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the school’s campus in Sinkor, drawing together alumni, students, faculty members, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the remarkable achievements of one of their own who continues to make a meaningful impact in public service.

‎Speaking during the ceremony, Prince B. Wiah, President of the Class of Alpha, said the event was organized to appreciate Mr. Woods for his unwavering dedication to the country and his outstanding representation of Liberia’s youthful population at the highest level of national leadership.

‎ “Terrence’s presence in the Office of the President reflects hope for young people across Liberia,” Wiah stated. “As an alumnus of Tubman High, his success story serves as an inspiration to many of us who believe in hard work, discipline, and patriotism.”

‎Wiah further revealed that the Class of Alpha - a group comprising students who graduated from the school in 2010 - has embarked on several initiatives aimed at giving back to their alma mater.

‎Among these projects is the construction of a modern signboard at the school’s main entrance, a symbol of pride, identity, and unity among Tubman High graduates.

‎He expressed optimism that such gestures will motivate current students to uphold the school’s legacy of excellence and service to society.

‎In response, Mr. Terrence Woods expressed heartfelt appreciation to his fellow alumni and the administration of Tubman High School for the recognition. He described the honor as both humbling and inspiring, reaffirming his commitment to serving the nation with integrity, professionalism, and purpose.

‎ “I’m deeply honored to be recognized by the institution that helped shape who I am today,” Woods said. “To the young people of Liberia, I want to say - remain steadfast in your dreams, stay disciplined, and always believe that success is possible through hard work and perseverance.”

‎Mr. Woods, a proud alumnus of William V.S. Tubman High School, encouraged students to take pride in their education and see their learning journey as a foundation for future greatness. He urged the youth to emulate positive role models and contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s development agenda.

‎The ceremony concluded with musical performances, reflections from classmates, photo sessions, and moments of nostalgia as former classmates and current students shared their admiration for Mr. Woods’ achievements.

‎The Class of Alpha reaffirmed its commitment to continue engaging in educational and social initiatives that will positively impact Tubman High and inspire future generations.

Government of Liberia Signs US$5.5 Million Grant Agreement to Expand Rural Energy Access

‎The Government of Liberia, through the Rural Renewable Energy Agency (RREA), has signed a US$5.5 million grant subsidy agreement with Rural Solar Incorporated to boost access to affordable and reliable electricity across rural communities in the country.

‎The signing marks a major step toward the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that rural and underserved communities benefit from modern energy services as part of Liberia’s broader national electrification and development agenda.

‎Speaking during the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Thursday, October 23, 2025, in Monrovia, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando, explained that the initiative is expected to connect more than 6,900 rural households to sustainable power sources.

‎ “This project demonstrates the government’s strong commitment to improving the living conditions of Liberians, especially those in rural areas. Access to electricity is not just about lights-it is about creating opportunities for education, healthcare, and economic empowerment,” Deputy Minister Sando emphasized.

‎Deputy Minister Sando detailed the breakdown of beneficiary households by county as follows:

‎Grand Cape Mount County – 2,200 households

‎Gbarpolu County – 1,300 households

‎Margibi County – 255 households

‎River Gee County – 805 households

‎Grand Kru County – 400 households

‎Sinoe County – 305 households

‎Grand Gedeh County – 355 households

‎Montserrado County – 150 households

‎Maryland County – 405 households

‎Nimba County – 200 households

‎Lofa County – 155 households

‎Grand Bassa County – 105 households

‎River Cess County – 100 households

‎Bong County – 105 households

‎The US$5.5 million grant is being jointly sponsored by the Government of Japan and the World Bank, two long-standing development partners of Liberia in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

‎Deputy Minister Sando lauded the contribution of the international partners, noting that their continued support has been pivotal in strengthening Liberia’s renewable energy framework and fostering inclusive growth.

‎He further indicated that the project will not only improve energy access but also create jobs, enhance business activities, and promote environmental sustainability through the use of renewable energy solutions.

‎ “Energy is the lifeblood of economic growth. With this partnership, we are building a foundation for rural communities to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development,” Sando added.

‎Over the past few years, the RREA, with support from international partners, has implemented several rural electrification projects aimed at extending grid and off-grid power solutions to communities that were previously without access to electricity.

‎The new agreement with Rural Solar Incorporated represents a continuation of these efforts and aligns with the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda.

‎As the project rolls out, thousands of households across 14 counties are expected to benefit, lighting up schools, clinics, and homes, and empowering communities toward a brighter and more sustainable future.

The leadership of AJURL, an umbrella organization under the PUL, has taken note of the press statement released on October 20, 2025, by PUL President Julius Kanubah. In that statement, the PUL disclosed that a complaint had been filed by journalists Stephen Roberts, Jacqueline L. Dennis, and G. Richard Watson against the leadership of AJURL. The statement alleges a “leadership gap within the Association of Judicial Reporters of Liberia.” We are compelled to ask: What specific leadership gap are our professional colleagues referring to?

‎The PUL’s statement further indicates that the complaint was filed in October 2024. It is deeply concerning that our media colleagues would submit a complaint nearly a year ago without providing written notice to Ms. Natasha Y. Wright, President of AJURL. The Association expresses its disappointment in the manner in which the PUL leadership has handled this matter. It is standard practice that when a complaint is filed against a subordinate body, the higher authority should formally communicate with that body to seek clarification. Unfortunately, President Kanubah’s leadership failed to observe this basic procedural courtesy and did not furnish AJURL with a written copy of the allegations. The Association of Judicial Reporters of Liberia only became aware of this allegation by a press statement issued by the President of the Press Union of Liberia.

‎We are left to wonder on what basis President Kanubah declined to serve us a copy of the complaint. Under legal practice, when a complaint is filed, the principle of discovery applies, meaning the complainant must provide all relevant evidence intended for use against the respondent. We find it troubling that the President of the PUL appears unfamiliar with such fundamental legal principles.

‎It is also important to emphasize that, according to Article 7, Section 2 of the PUL Constitution, it is the responsibility of the Vice President of the Union to oversee the actions and inactions of all umbrella organizations.

‎Furthermore, we categorically state that journalists Stephen Roberts, Jacqueline L. Dennis, and G. Richard Watson are not bona fide members of AJURL. We challenge our colleagues to produce letters of designation or assignment to ...

PUL and Morocco Forge Partnership to Enhance Journalism and Media Capacity in Liberia

‎By: Nanakpallah

‎Monrovia, Liberia – October 7, 2025

‎The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco have held high-level discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation to enhance capacity-building initiatives for journalists and media professionals in Liberia.

‎The meeting, held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Sinkor, Monrovia, brought together key representatives from both institutions. It followed a series of constructive engagements between the PUL leadership and the Moroccan Embassy, led by Mr. Lahoucine Rahmouni, the Chargé d'Affaires, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening media infrastructure and promoting professional development in Liberia.
‎During the meeting, Mr. Rahmouni briefed the PUL delegation on a range of bilateral and investment initiatives being developed and implemented by the Moroccan Government in Liberia. These initiatives cover diverse sectors, including agriculture, energy, trade, education, training, and digital empowerment, reflecting Morocco’s broader vision of South–South cooperation and African solidarity.

‎PUL President Mr. Julius Kanubah expressed appreciation to Mr. Rahmouni for his continued engagement with the Union, citing the Embassy’s active participation in the PUL’s 61st anniversary celebrations and its sustained collaboration with Liberia’s media sector.
‎Mr. Kanubah appealed for Morocco’s partnership and support in addressing the technical, training, and institutional capacity gaps affecting the Liberian media — particularly in the areas of digital innovation, professional development, and media resilience.

‎Liberia’s media continues to play a critical role in strengthening democracy and accountability, Mr. Kanubah noted. “However, the sector faces real challenges in keeping pace with global media transformation. The Kingdom of Morocco’s experience in digital innovation and training presents a valuable opportunity for partnership and shared growth.”

‎For his part, Mr. Rahmouni reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s national development priorities under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, including the advancement of media professionalism and the promotion of freedom of expression.

‎The discussions marked a significant step toward developing a strategic partnership between the Press Union of Liberia and the Kingdom of Morocco, focused on advancing professional journalism and sustainable media development in Liberia.

‎The PUL delegation included:

‎Ms. Estelle Liberty, Chairperson, Anniversary and Resource Mobilization Committee

‎Mr. Edwin Clarke, Technical Advisor, Anniversary and Resource Mobilization Committee

‎From the Embassy of Morocco:

‎Mr. Hossain Asrouti, Counselor of the Embassy
‎Mr. Lahoucine Rahmouni, Chargé d'Affaires
