President Joseph Boakai’s Silence Is Complicity—Justice Delayed for James Dunn Is Justice Denied for Liberia
In the heart of a nation still recovering from years of conflict and corruption, the people of Liberia are once again witnessing a dangerous return to impunity under President Joseph Boakai’s administration. The tragic and suspicious death of James Dunn—a fierce advocate for truth, transparency, and accountability—remains unresolved, and justice continues to be delayed under the weight of state inaction and political negligence.
We cannot mince words: President Boakai is complicit in this delay. His administration’s failure to launch a credible, transparent, and independent investigation into the death of James Dunn raises alarming questions about his commitment to human rights, the rule of law, and the democratic ideals he claims to uphold.
James Dunn was not just another citizen—he was a voice for justice, a defender of human dignity, and a symbol of fearless activism. His death, under circumstances that point to foul play, should have sparked immediate national outrage and prompt legal response. Instead, the deafening silence from the Executive Mansion and the Ministry of Justice is a betrayal—not just to Dunn’s family, but to every Liberian who dares to speak truth to power.
This silence is not neutral. It is enabling. Across Liberia, citizens are facing increasing threats, arbitrary arrests, and systematic violations of their rights. Journalists are being silenced. Activists are disappearing. And all the while, President Boakai remains disturbingly indifferent—choosing political preservation over moral courage.
This is not just a national disgrace—it is an international emergency.
We therefore call upon the international community, human rights bodies, and the United Nations to act with urgency. We demand targeted sanctions against President Joseph Boakai and senior officials in his government who continue to obstruct justice and violate the fundamental rights of Liberians. Freezing assets, travel bans, and diplomatic isolation must be on the table. Liberia cannot be allowed to spiral back into darkness under the watch of a government that tolerates murder and protects the powerful at the expense of justice.
Let it be known: The blood of James Dunn cries out from the soil of Liberia. And those who remain silent in power are as guilty as those who pull the trigger in darkness.
The world must act. The time for justice is now.
