As your Mayor, I remain deeply thankful for the trust you have placed in me to serve. Together, we will continue to strengthen the foundation of peace, growth, and progress that defines our beloved Monrovia.

May this Thanksgiving bring warmth to your homes, joy to your families, and hope for the future of our great city.

Monrovia, Liberia: The Chief Executive Officer of Spoon Network, Mr. Stanton Witherspoon, has launched a sharp criticism of the ruling Unity Party (UP), accusing it of coming to power with intentions to “steal, kill, and destroy” the country.

Speaking during a recent edition of his network’s flagship talk show, Witherspoon alleged that the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai did not assume office to “rescue” Liberians as promised during the 2023 elections, but rather to exploit the nation for personal gain.

“This government did not come to serve; it came to steal, kill, and destroy,” Witherspoon declared. “They have no genuine love for the country or its children, who are supposed to be the future leaders.”

He further accused officials of the Unity Party of being motivated by greed and self-interest, alleging that they receive kickbacks from every concession deal brought into the country.

“Every concession that comes to Liberia is treated as a money-making opportunity for top officials,” he claimed, adding that “the suffering of ordinary Liberians means nothing to those in charge.”

Witherspoon, a controversial media executive known for his outspoken commentary, also revealed that he is working to build momentum for an opposition takeover in the 2029 presidential elections, arguing that the current administration has failed to live up to its campaign promises of good governance and accountability.

Political observers, however, view the remarks as part of the intensifying political rhetoric ahead of the next electoral cycle.

LTA Commissioner Calls CDC a “Recklessly Shameless Party”
Says Opposition Now Silent After Arrival of Buses

Monrovia, Liberia: The Commissioner of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), Patrick Honnah, has described the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) as a “recklessly shameless party,” accusing it of hypocrisy and frustration over the Unity Party government’s development progress.

Speaking on the government’s official podcast, “Class Reloaded,” which highlights key initiatives of the Unity Party (UP) administration, Honnah criticized the CDC for what he termed as “habitual complaining” about the government’s performance while ignoring visible progress.

“The CDC is both shameless and reckless,” Honnah said. “They have been asking when the yellow machines and buses will come. Now that the buses have arrived, they have suddenly gone quiet.”

The LTA Commissioner argued that the CDC’s shifting narrative reflects its desperation to remain relevant in national politics despite what he described as tangible progress being made under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s leadership.

Honnah also urged officials and supporters of the Unity Party to document and keep records of CDC members’ online posts and public statements for future reference.

“Unity Party officials should take screenshots and keep what the CDC people post,” he said. “When the truth becomes clear, they can be reminded of what they said.”

Honnah’s comments come amid a series of political exchanges between the ruling Unity Party and the CDC, as both sides continue to trade accusations over governance performance, accountability, and development priorities.

As of press time, the Coalition for Democratic Change had not issued a response to the LTA Commissioner’s remarks.

Gov’t Rejects CMC Bridge Proposal, Cites Existing Development Plans

The Government of Liberia has turned down a proposal by the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) to construct a 38-meter bridge in Gbarnga, B**g County, citing that the project is already captured under the national development plan of the Ministry of Public Works.

In a letter dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to CMC’s National Chairman, Mr. James M.V. Yougie, Public Works Minister Roland Layfette Giddings acknowledged receipt of the organization’s bridge design documents but clarified that the government has already budgeted for the same project.

“We wish to inform you that the Government of Liberia, through a budgetary allocation to the Ministry of Public Works, has plans for the construction of the subject bridge and is in the process of finalizing all technical documents for the procurement of a contractor,” the letter stated.

Minister Giddings, however, commended CMC for its development-driven initiative and provided technical guidelines for future infrastructure proposals from private or community-based groups. He said such proposals must include a site topography study, geotechnical investigation, hydrological and hydraulic reports, structural analysis and design, and full working drawings for consideration.

Despite the government’s explanation, the decision has drawn mixed reactions from political and development observers, some of whom suggest that the refusal may be politically motivated or could slow down ongoing development efforts in B**g County.

“This could have been an opportunity for public-private partnership to accelerate rural development,” one analyst told reporters. “Blocking such efforts sends the wrong message about government priorities.”

The proposed bridge, according to CMC, was intended to enhance transportation, trade, and economic connectivity in Gbarnga, one of central Liberia’s key commercial hubs. Residents in the area have repeatedly complained about poor road networks and limited access, particularly during the rainy season.

The Ministry of Public Works has reassured the public that the bridge project remains part of its national infrastructure plan, but as of press time, no official timeline has been announced for the commencement of construction.

Monrovia, Liberia — The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) has officially launched the Mpox Operation Campaign under the theme “Operation Find All Mpox Cases,” aimed at curbing the spread of the viral disease across the country.

Speaking during the launching ceremony that was held Monday, November 3.2025 at the Gardnersville Towh Hall, Dr. Sia Wata Camanor, Interim Director General of NPHIL, said Montserrado County was selected as the starting point for the nationwide campaign because it remains the most affected area. She disclosed that Montserrado accounts for 69 percent of the 1,290 confirmed Mpox cases in Liberia, making it the epicenter of the outbreak.

“Montserrado County faces greater challenges than any other county, with the highest number of confirmed cases and fatality rates,” Dr. Camanor explained.

She stressed that controlling Mpox transmission is critical not only for safeguarding public health but also for restoring investor confidence in Liberia. According to her, effective disease management could encourage international partners to increase support for the country’s development efforts.

Providing an update on the national Mpox situation, Finda Smith, Acting Chair of the Mpox National Incident Management System, said Liberia recorded 1,000 cases between January and October 2025, showing how familiar the country has become with the disease since its reemergence.

Smith revealed that 1,291 cases have been confirmed out of 2,287 suspected cases, with six deaths reported nationwide—representing a case fatality rate of 0.5 percent. She added that all 15 counties have recorded Mpox cases, with 60 percent of infections originating from Montserrado County alone.

Meanwhile, Dr. Yeah Nemah, Director of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) at the Ministry of Health, disclosed progress in Liberia’s Mpox vaccination efforts. He said the country received 10,800 doses of Mpox vaccines six months ago, which were distributed across all counties.

“Of that number, about 9,000 doses have already been administered,” Dr. Nemah said. “Based on our request for more support, Liberia has now received an additional 40,000 doses of Mpox vaccines from the global health community.”

The new vaccine supply is expected to strengthen the government’s campaign to identify, treat, and prevent new Mpox cases nationwide.

NPHIL and the Ministry of Health are urging communities to cooperate with health teams during the campaign, report suspected cases promptly, and participate in vaccination drives to help eliminate Mpox from Liberia.

Labor Court Rules in Favor of NPA in Wrongful Dismissal Case

Monrovia, Liberia — In a landmark ruling, the National Labor Court has sided with the National Port Authority (NPA), overturning a decision by the Ministry of Labor that had earlier held the entity liable for the alleged wrongful dismissal of its former Financial Comptroller, Mr. Gabriel Bull.

The Ministry of Labor had previously ruled that Mr. Bull’s dismissal violated fair labor standards and ordered compensation in his favor. However, the NPA, represented by its Managing Director Hon. Sekou H. Dukuly, petitioned the court for a judicial review, arguing that the dismissal was both lawful and justified, citing evidence of serious financial misconduct uncovered through internal audits.

Court Upholds Employer’s Right Under Decent Work Act

Presiding Judge Kollie examined two key issues:
1. Whether an employer has the legal right to summarily dismiss an employee for grave misconduct without conducting an internal investigation, and
2. Whether the Ministry of Labor’s award of compensation to Mr. Bull was supported by sufficient evidence.

In her ruling, Judge Kollie cited Sections 14.3 and 14.4 of Liberia’s Decent Work Act, which grant employers the right to terminate employees immediately for grave misconduct once such misconduct has been established.

“The Decent Work Act provides that an employer may summarily dismiss an employee for proven misconduct that fundamentally breaches the employment relationship,” the court’s opinion noted.

The court determined that the NPA acted within the bounds of the law, emphasizing that the Ministry of Labor’s earlier ruling lacked adequate evidentiary support. Accordingly, the Labor Court set aside the Ministry’s decision and ruled in favor of the NPA.

The dispute originated after Mr. Bull challenged his dismissal, accusing the NPA of unfair labor practices and procedural irregularities. Following the Ministry’s initial ruling in his favor, the NPA filed for judicial review, asserting that due process had been followed and that the dismissal was based on verified audit findings.

The National Labor Court’s decision now upholds the employer’s right to enforce disciplinary measures under the Decent Work Act, reinforcing the principle that allegations of misconduct, when substantiated, may warrant immediate termination.

As of press time, it was not clear whether Mr. Bull intends to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court of Liberia.

“CDC Will Never Win Elections Under My Watch,” Says UP Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh

Monrovia, Liberia: The Chairman of the ruling Unity Party (UP), Rev. Luther Tarpeh, has vowed that the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) will never return to power in Liberia as long as he remains head of the Unity Party.

Rev. Tarpeh made the declaration during an interview on the “OK Conversation” program in Monrovia, where he spoke about the party’s strength, discipline, and renewed commitment to good governance under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s leadership.

“As long as I remain Chairman of the Unity Party, the CDC will never win elections in Liberia. In fact, they are really good in opposition,” Rev. Tarpeh asserted, sparking loud applause from supporters who attended the live broadcast.

The UP Chairman also announced that December 6, 2025, will be marked as what he described as “the day of war against rent payment,” signaling the party’s plan to end its dependence on rented offices and move toward owning its own headquarters.

“December 6, 2025, is the day we stop paying money to rent properties for party use,” he said. “Under President Boakai, nobody will steal government money to build a party headquarters.”

Rev. Tarpeh emphasized that the Unity Party’s operations and policies are grounded in transparency, accountability, and service to the nation, rather than personal enrichment or corruption.

He described the UP as a party of “vision and intellect,” boasting that it is home to Liberia’s brightest and most capable citizens.

“We have the best brains in this country the finest intellectuals. The Unity Party has them,” he said. “We are not copying from the CDC; the CDC is copying from us.”

Rev. Tarpeh’s statements come amid rising political rhetoric between the ruling Unity Party and the opposition CDC, as both groups begin to position themselves ahead of the next general and presidential elections.

Political observers say the UP chairman’s bold remarks reflect the party’s growing confidence and determination to strengthen its grassroots support while advancing President Boakai’s ARREST development agenda.

In response to the Unity Party Chairman's assertion, Former Montserrado County District #8 Representative and senior member of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Acarous Moses Gray, has sharply responded to recent remarks by Unity Party (UP) Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh, declaring that the CDC will reclaim state power in the next general and presidential elections.

In a swift response on Tuesday, Mr. Gray, a prominent CDC figure and former lawmaker, described the Unity Party as “worst at governance,” predicting that the ruling establishment will face a historic defeat in 2029.

“As a CDC Frontline General, I want to remind the Chairman of the Unity Party that his institution is worst at governance,” Gray said. “They will be the first ruling party since 1997 to receive an unpleasant, democratic, and devastating first-round defeat without a runoff election.”

He further declared that the CDC is poised to secure a first-round absolute majority victory in 2029, signaling confidence in the party’s political resurgence.

“The CDC will be the party to obtain that first-round absolute majority victory come 2029,” Gray emphasized.

Concluding his remarks with a literary reference, Gray told Rev. Tarpeh:

“Mr. Chairman, we shall meet at the Battle of Philippi.”

The statement by the former Montserrado lawmaker adds to a series of sharp exchanges between the two parties, underscoring the polarized political atmosphere that continues to shape Liberia’s emerging democracy.
