MONSU Empowers Montserrado Youth with Transformative Career Counselling Summit
Students Urged to Build Purposeful Futures Beyond High School
In a decisive push to bridge the gap between education and career readiness, the Montserrado County Students Union (MONSU), under the leadership of its 6th Post-War President Real Oliver C. Jarka, convened a powerful one-day career counselling session on Friday at the William V.S. Tubman High School Campus. The event, themed “From Classroom to Career: Building a Purposeful Life Beyond High School,” brought together hundreds of young minds ready to chart their next chapter.
Targeting 12th graders and recent national exam candidates, the session provided students with hands-on exposure to diverse career pathways, inspirational guidance, and life-skills mentorship from a distinguished lineup of professionals.
Backing Tomorrow’s Leaders
The initiative received generous sponsorship from Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, whose steadfast support underscored a national commitment to youth empowerment. Her endorsement set the tone for a program anchored in vision, hope, and preparation.
Voices of Experience
Keynote remarks were delivered by Madam Garmai Koboi, Director of the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO), and Mr. James “Tactician” Gbelee Washington, President of the Liberia National Students’ Union (LINSU), both of whom urged students to pursue careers that align with their passions and values.
Panel discussions spanned professions in law, politics, entrepreneurship, journalism, and public service, headlined by:
- Cllr. Phil Tarpeh Dixon, legal expert
- Mr. Lansana P. Fofana, politician
- Mr. Edwin Olu Bestman, engineer
- Mr. J. Shem Gessay, entrepreneur
- Mr. Mickey Blojay Koduo, educator
- Amb. Trokon Wrepue and Miss Mariama Jalloh, journalists
- Miss Precious Rue, law enforcement officer
- Mr. Christian M. Kwesi, Ghana-based career counsellor and president of Young African Great Mind
Their combined insights fueled a passionate exchange on career development, personal growth, and civic responsibility.
A Seamless Experience

A Lasting Legacy
In a closing note, MONSU’s leadership reaffirmed its dedication to building initiatives that genuinely reflect student aspirations.
