House of Representatives and Executive Mansion Collaborate on LTM Agreement Suspension

By: Staff Writer

The House of Representatives has received a formal response from the Executive Mansion regarding its request for the temporary suspension of key components of the concession agreement with the Liberia Traffic Management (LTM). This communication comes amid rising public concerns over the agreement’s implications for service delivery, cost, and oversight.

In a letter dated August 7, Acting Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Hadja Mamaka Bility, addressed to Madam Mildred N. Sayon, Chief Clerk of the House, confirmed the Executive’s acknowledgment of the House’s request. Bility emphasized the government’s dedication to transparency, due process, and institutional collaboration, indicating that appropriate measures are already being taken in accordance with the President’s directive.

The House had previously called for a halt to the implementation of provisions related to vehicle registrations, drivers’ licenses, and license plate issuance, pending a comprehensive investigation and review of the LTM agreement. Lawmakers expressed their constitutional responsibility to protect national interests, ensuring that all concession arrangements adhere to lawful conduct and ethical standards.

This collaborative effort between the Legislature and the Executive reflects a shared commitment to addressing public concerns and enhancing accountability in governance. As both branches of government align on the necessity for a thorough review of the LTM agreement, further discussions among relevant agencies and stakeholders are anticipated in the coming weeks.

The outcomes of this review process are expected to play a crucial role in shaping future public-private partnerships in Liberia, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to responsible governance and effective service delivery.

Family of Late Lovette Tamba Files $25M Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against JFK Medical Center

By: Staff Writer
August 28, 2025

The family of Lovette Tamba, who tragically passed away during her pregnancy, has filed a $25 million wrongful death lawsuit against the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK) and Dr. Gonkerneu Nuahn, citing medical malpractice as the cause of her death and the loss of her unborn child.

Court documents reveal that Tamba was 26 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, which her family alleges resulted from negligence and professional misconduct by the medical staff at JFK. The lawsuit, represented by Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus and AFDASA Consultancy, seek $7 million in special damages and $10 million in general damages from the hospital, alongside $3 million in special damages and $5 million in general damages from Dr. Nuahn.

The plaintiffs argue that the untimely death of Tamba has caused profound emotional and financial distress to her surviving four-year-old daughter, Destiny Kerkula, and the entire family. “No amount of money can compensate for the irreparable loss,” the suit states, highlighting the deep grief and trauma experienced by Tamba’s loved ones.

Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that Dr. Nuahn attempted to conceal the circumstances surrounding Tamba’s death by threatening colleagues who may have information pertinent to the case. The family is seeking a full judicial hearing and is asking the court to hold both JFK and Dr. Nuahn jointly liable for their tragic loss.

This case marks one of Liberia’s most notable medical malpractice lawsuits to date and has the potential to set a precedent for healthcare accountability in the nation.

The LNP reiterated its commitment to serving the public with professionalism, neutrality, and respect for human rights. They emphasized that such disciplinary actions are essential for maintaining high standards and restoring public trust in law enforcement.

The Liberia National Police expressed gratitude to the public for their continued support in fostering a safer and more just Liberia.

Margibi County’s Call for Fair Representation and Inclusion in Government

In a recent statement, F. Nyumalin Sr., the Minister of Internal Affairs, highlighted the significant electoral contribution of Margibi County, which delivered the third highest votes for the Unity Party during the last elections. Despite this strong support, Minister Nyumalin expressed concerns that the county has not received its fair share of benefits from the government.

Acknowledging the vital role Margibi played in bringing the Unity Party to power, the Minister emphasized the ongoing efforts by the government to ensure greater inclusion of Margibi citizens in governmental positions. “We are aware that Margibi County produced the third highest vote that brought the Unity Party to power but has not received its fair share of the benefits,” he stated, underscoring the need for equitable representation.

The government’s commitment to addressing these disparities aims to foster a more inclusive political environment and ensure that all regions, especially those that have shown strong support, are adequately represented and benefit from national policies.

Souh, Deputy Director General for Administration Mr. Gwee K. Porkpah, and Deputy Director General for Operations Mr. Sebastian Farr.

To ensure continuity in operations, President Boakai has appointed an Interim Management Team to oversee the agency until a new management team is established. The interim team will be led by DCP Fitzgerald T. M. Biago of the Liberia National Police, who will serve as Officer-in-Charge. He will be joined by Mr. Ernest T. Tarpeh from the National Security Agency as Deputy for Administration/Investigation, and ACP Patrick B. Kormazu, also from the Liberia National Police, as Deputy for Operations.

The Interim Management Team is tasked with reporting regularly to the Minister of Justice, who will keep the President informed of the LDEA’s operations and performance. LACC Introduces Whistleblower Boxes A New Initiative to Tackle Corruption in Government Ministries and Agencies

By: Staff Writer

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has taken a significant step towards enhancing integrity and accountability within the government by officially installing Whistleblower Boxes at key Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions across the country.

This initiative, which commenced on August 15, 2025, is spearheaded by LACC’s Education and Prevention Department and aims to provide safe, confidential, and accessible channels for public servants and citizens to report corruption, fraud, abuse of office, and other forms of misconduct. The installation of these boxes is a proactive measure to encourage reporting and foster a culture of transparency within public institutions.

Phase one of the rollout includes the placement of Whistleblower Boxes at several strategic locations, including:

• Civil Service Agency (CSA)
• Ministry of Education
• Ministry of Commerce & Industry
• Liberia National Police Headquarters (Capitol Hill)
• Zone 3 Depot (Congo Town)
• Zone 8 Depot (ELWA, Paynesville)

This initiative is not only backed by the Government of Liberia but also aligns with LACC’s statutory mandate and Article 33 of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), which emphasizes the importance of protecting and empowering whistleblowers.

In addition to the installation of Whistleblower Boxes, the LACC is undertaking several complementary initiatives to strengthen anti-corruption mechanisms throughout Liberia. Currently, LACC officials are on a one-week working visit to Uganda, where they are engaging with Uganda’s Inspectorate of Government (IG). This visit is part of Liberia’s preparations to transition to an electronic asset declaration system by 2026, aimed at enhancing transparency in public asset reporting.

Further demonstrating its commitment to combating corruption, the LACC, in partnership with UNDP Liberia and funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund, recently concluded a two-day media training workshop in Ganta, Nimba County. This workshop aimed to equip media professionals with the skills necessary to effectively report on anti-corruption efforts and raise public awareness.

The introduction of Whistleblower Boxes represents a crucial step in Liberia’s ongoing fight against corruption, empowering citizens and public servants to take an active role in promoting integrity within their institutions. As the LACC continues to implement innovative measures to combat misconduct, the hope is that these efforts will lead to a more transparent and accountable government for all Liberians.

Fellow Citizens,

As we gather today, August 24, 2025, to mark Flag Day, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and pride alongside you, in accordance with the proclamation of our esteemed President, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. This year, we unite under the significant theme: “The Flag We Raise, The Values We Uphold.”

As our red, white, and blue flag rises gracefully, let us take a moment to reflect on its profound significance. Our flag represents more than just a symbol; it embodies our unwavering pursuit of freedom, the enduring spirit of unity, and the remarkable resilience our ancestors demonstrated in times of adversity. Each stripe and star stands as a testament to the sacrifices made by those who came before us, guiding us toward a brighter and more inclusive future.

On this momentous occasion, I encourage us all to reaffirm our commitment to the core values that our flag embodies: academic excellence, social justice, national service, and community solidarity. By embracing these principles, we elevate our flag from a simple emblem to a living testament of our identity and collective aspirations as a united nation.

Let us honor the legacy of those who have blazed the trail before us by embodying these values in our daily pursuits. Together, we can inspire meaningful change in our Communities, uplift one another, and lay a strong foundation for generations to come.

Wishing a joyous Flag Day to all residents of B**g County! May we continue to uphold the ideals represented by our flag.

Long live B**g County, and long live the Republic of Liberia!
