Palm Wine Tapper Found Dead Hanging On Piassava Tree In River Gee

Andrew Weah Chea, a 47-year-old Palm Wine Tapper of Gbeapo Kanweaken, the primary commercial hub of River Gee County, lost his life in a fire while harvesting piassava wine.

According to family reports, the incident occurred in the morning hours of July 9, 2025.

Andrew, a farmer skilled in tapping piassava wine, usually managed his tree during both morning and evening periods.

His sister, Comfort Chea, recounted that on that ill-fated morning, Andrew went out to check on his piassava tree and encountered his tragic fate.

Family members became anxious when he did not return home by evening. Comfort expressed her anguish, stating, "We had no idea that anything was wrong until last night. When we woke up this morning and began searching for him, I was heartbroken to find my dear brother, who was only trying to support his family, hanging lifelessly."

Andrew is survived by his wife, two children, and other relatives as they might now be faced the challenge of coping with his loss.

However, the incident prompted a response from the County Coroner Derrick Keah and local police feom the Gbeapo district, who arrived to investigate.

They worked alongside a jury of fifteen community members to recover Andrew's body from the tree.

After their inquiry, the jury concluded that no foul play was involved in Andrew's passing as Coroner Keah then released his body to the family for funeral arrangements.

Grand Gedeh County Health Team Cracks Down Unauthorized Health Facilities, Shuts Down Several Clinics and Drugs Stores

In an effort to eradicate fraudulent medical practices in Grand Gedeh County, the Grand Gedeh County Health Team on today, Saturday, July 5, 2025, commenced a vigorous inspection of health facilities as a means of improving health delivery services and cracking down on unauthorized medical facilities.

The head of the Grand Gedeh County Health Team, Dr. Daanue Zwuogbae, Said the inspection was initiated to eliminate unlicensed practitioners and substandard clinics and drug stores in the county.

Dr. Zwuogbae claimed that most of the clinics and drug stores that are operating in the county are not licensed and didn't meet the minimum criteria to operate as clinics or drug stores.

“Many clinics and drug stores here are illegally operating and do not meet the required medical standards to operate. This search will be done after every three months to monitor and correct owners of health facilities,” He asserted.

Some health facilities identified for operating illegally are Christian Faith Clinic, God Grace Clinic, B&P Clinic, Miracle Pharmacy among others. Those facilities were with immediate effect shut down by the Health Team, due to lack of permit and licensure.

The inspection process will continue tomorrow and after every three months according to the County Health Team Head Dr. Daanue Zwuogbae

He emphasized that he and his team will remain steadfast and unrelenting in their pursuit to get rid of substandard healthcare facilities and fraudulent medical practices in Grand Gedeh County.

La situation devient alarmante dans le quartier de Matam Lido, où les cas de décès liés à la consommation de la drogue "Kush" se multiplient.

🔴 Fait marquant :
Les autorités religieuses du quartier ont pris une décision radicale : refus d’inhumer les victimes décédées suite à la consommation de cette drogue. Une mesure choc pour interpeller les consciences et stopper l’hémorragie.

Le président Boakai dédie le mausolée en l'honneur de l'ancien président William R. Tolbert Jr. et des officiels tués pendant le coup d'État de 1980

Manoir exécutif, Monrovia – Le président Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., a dirigé le mardi 1er juillet 2025, une cérémonie consacrant un nouveau site commémoratif en l'honneur du défunt président William Richard Tolbert Jr. et des 13 fonctionnaires gouvernementaux qui ont été brutalement exécutés à la suite du coup d'État militaire du 12 avril 1980.

La dédicace a eu lieu au Séminaire théologique baptiste libérien à Paynesville, où le mausolée est maintenant un symbole national de souvenir, de réconciliation et d'engagement renouvelé en faveur de la justice et de la paix.

Un éventail de dignitaires ont assisté à l'événement, dont l'ancienne présidente Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, l'ancienne vice-présidente Jewel Howard Taylor, la première dame Mme Kartumu Y Boakai, le président, le Sénat Pro-temp et les membres de l'Assemblée nationale, les fonctionnaires du gouvernement, les membres du clergé, les représentants du corps diplomatique, la représentation de la famille Doe et les familles endeuillées des hommes d'État tombés.

Dans son message, le président Boakai a décrit le dévouement comme « un devoir national et un acte de restitution morale », soulignant que se souvenir des chapitres douloureux de l'histoire du Libéria est essentiel pour guérir et construire un avenir plus uni.

« Ce mémorial n'est pas seulement destiné à ceux dont la vie a été enlevée - c'est un hommage aux idéaux démocratiques pour lesquels ils se sont défendus », a déclaré le président Boakai. « Leurs souvenirs inspireront à jamais notre voyage vers une nation plus juste, pacifique et responsable. ” a-t-il ajouté.

La cérémonie a également présenté des prières et des hommages de la Convention missionnaire et éducative baptiste du Libéria, des survivants et des descendants des fonctionnaires morts. Les noms des 13 fonctionnaires tués et des autres tués ont été gravés dans le mémorial, et un moment de silence a été observé en leur honneur. Il y a aussi eu la remise symbolique du drapeau du Libéria aux familles des défunts par les Forces armées du Libéria et la pose de couronnes sur le monument en hommage aux défunts.

L'établissement du mémorial en concert avec les familles et le groupe commémoratif du 22 avril fait partie de l'engagement continu du président Boakai envers la réconciliation nationale, la justice transitionnelle et la reconnaissance de l'histoire complexe du Libéria. Il fait également suite à une série d'actes symboliques commis par l'administration, dont les inhumations d'anciens présidents et la célébration officielle des journées nationales du souvenir.

Le président du comité présidentiel de réenterrement, Dr. Jarso Marley Jallah a exprimé sa profonde gratitude à la famille Tolbert, au séminaire théologique baptiste et à tous les intervenants qui ont contribué à la réalisation de cette initiative historique.

“No One Will Escape Justice” – AREPT Chair Vows as Anti-Graft Net Widens

MONROVIA – The Chairman of the Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce (AREPT), Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, says no suspect whether in Liberia or abroad will escape justice as the government intensifies its crackdown on corruption.

Speaking Monday on ELBC, Martin confirmed that the taskforce is investigating 26 active cases involving alleged theft of public funds and reviewing 40 suspicious properties suspected to be acquired through illicit means.

He warned that anyone indicted who attempts to flee the country will be tracked with help from international partners. “There is no way anybody can escape. We’re working with partners in the UK, Switzerland, Sweden and we’ll use Interpol where necessary,” he said.

Martin emphasized that the fight against corruption is not selective. “We don’t investigate people; we investigate crimes. Once you’re linked, you’ll be invited, past or present,” he said.

He also encouraged voluntary restitution, revealing that some individuals have approached the taskforce quietly. Meanwhile, indictments in the Saudi rice scandal involving high-profile former officials remain before the court.

He said the taskforce is set to launch a public campaign to raise awareness and gather tips on stolen state assets.

36-year-old Woman Gives Birth to Triplets; Calls on Citizens and Humanitarians for Help

Zwedru Grand Gedeh county — A 36 year old woman identified as Houssainatou Balde has given birth to triplets at the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.

Balde is calling on citizens and philanthropists, including INGOs and NGOs, to promptly come to her aid.

Blade successfully went through a surgical procedure on Monday June 23, 2025 at the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital.

The triplets comprised two females and one male.

While speaking to this paper, Balde remaked, “I have borne two children without any problem and I am even surprised of this one, I don't know what to do but only God.”

The mother of the triplets is now in desperate need of assistance as she also appeals to the government for much-needed support.
