FROM CLARA TOWN TO THE SUMMIT OF HISTORY: HAPPY DIAMOND JUBILEE, COMRADE PRESIDENT GEORGE M. WEAH!
Comrade President, poverty surrounded your childhood but could not cage your destiny. From Clara Town, with God-given talent and iron discipline, you climbed to the summit of world football and carried Liberia’s name into the world’s admiration. You taught every forgotten child one truth: where we begin does not decide where we end.
When war scattered our people, you did not forget home. You stood with refugees, carried hope into places of despair, and proved that your greatness belonged to your people.
Like Marcus Aurelius, you mastered the storm within. In 2023, you accepted a painful outcome and placed Liberia’s peace above power. History will remember that restraint as the mark of a true statesman.
We stood with you through malicious falsehoods and unfair judgments, and we stand with you today, firmer than ever. No campaign of ridicule can erase your bond with the Liberian people.
Now those who promised rescue must deliver results. Mr. Boakai’s administration must answer for its stewardship, for the closed gates of the University of Liberia, for families who cannot eat slogans, and for public concerns about co***ne trafficking and criminality. The presidency is a public trust, and no office or connection should shield wrongdoing. As the leading opposition, we will confront failure, demand accountability and offer Liberians a credible path forward.
Thank you for dedicating your Diamond Jubilee to prayer for our bleeding nation. You have placed the people’s pain at the heart of your celebration. That is leadership.
At sixty, may God grant you health, wisdom and courage for the service ahead. May every attempt to diminish you only strengthen your resolve.
Our destination is the people’s victory: food on every table, opportunity for every child, dignity in every community and a government worthy of their trust.
