Sermon Summary

Theme: My Mind is Made Up for God
Text: Ruth 1:1-20
Preacher: Min. Lawrence G. Coleman, Associate Pastor, Andrew Cartwright Memorial AME Zion Church

In his third Sunday message, "My Mind is Made Up for God," Min. Lawrence G. Coleman urged the congregation to fortify their minds, renew their commitment, and declare their faith through their lives. He drew the sermon from the story of Ruth in Ruth 1:1-20.

The preacher explained that the devil’s primary battleground is the mind as he seeks to sow seeds of doubt, fear, and discouragement to pull believers away from their divine purpose. The sermon's core focused on Ruth's critical decision.

She had every reason to return to her own people and a life of familiarity. Instead, Ruth made a radical, countercultural choice to stay with Naomi. Her declaration, "Your people will be my people and your God my God," revealed her resolve.

Min. Coleman challenged the congregation about their own level of commitment. He emphasized that a true walk with God requires a "made-up mind." According to him, it is an intentional choice to follow God, even when circumstances are difficult, when the future is uncertain, and when it seems easier to turn back.
