Students Democratic Party Candidates Donate Cleaning Supplies During Campaign at Excel AD Nehetta International School

BY: Staff Writer

Monrovia, Liberia — The Students Democratic Party (SDP) campaign at Excel AD Nehetta International School, located in Zubah Town, took an unexpected but impactful turn when candidates presented a donation of cleaning equipment as part of their election activities.

The initiative, unveiled during a campaign event on campus, underscored the party’s emphasis on service, responsibility, and environmental improvement within the school community.

The SDP slate is headed by Presidential Candidate Justin D. Gaye, alongside Vice-Presidential hopeful Martin Benson, Gubernatorial nominee Kokolo J. Flomo, and Vice-Governor aspirant Voetta L. Smallwood.

The team used the donation to demonstrate what they described as a practical commitment to promoting cleanliness and better organization across the campus.

The donated items included three long-handled, floral-patterned brooms in yellow, blue, and orange; two additional brushes with blue and white bristles; a stack of orange laundry baskets with blue lids; a large blue trash bag; and a bundle of light-blue garbage bags branded “CMG FOR80.”

School authorities welcomed the gesture, noting that the supplies will support student-led clean-up initiatives and strengthen efforts to maintain a healthy learning environment.
Officials said the contribution aligns with the broader goal of encouraging student participation in maintaining campus standards.

Speaking during the presentation, the Students Democratic Party candidates explained that the supplies symbolize their pledge to enhance hygiene and foster a culture of shared responsibility among students. They described their leadership approach as proactive and service-driven.

The student government election, scheduled for next week, will determine the institution’s new leadership team.
Students are being encouraged to assess each party’s vision and initiatives, including projects such as the clean-up donation, as they prepare to cast their votes.

Year-End Message from MD Sekou A.M. Dukuly

As we bring 2025 to a close, I do so with a profound sense of humility, gratitude, and responsibility. This year tested the resolve of the National Port Authority in fundamental ways. We inherited deep structural challenges that constrained operations, eroded confidence, and limited our ports' ability to serve the Liberian economy fully. Yet in the face of these realities, we chose renewal over resignation, reform over routine, and collective purpose over complacency.

Guided by the ARREST Agenda of the Government of Liberia and anchored in the RESET reform framework, we undertook deliberate and sometimes difficult decisions to restore credibility, efficiency, and national control over our maritime system. The restoration of twenty-four-hour vessel navigation at the Freeport of Monrovia, the strengthening of marine and safety assets, the revival of port operations in Buchanan and Greenville, and the advancement of long-term modernization planning represent more than technical achievements. They reflect a renewed national confidence in what disciplined leadership and shared sacrifice can accomplish.

I extend my deepest appreciation to His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for the trust and confidence reposed in me to lead the National Port Authority, and for his continued guidance, encouragement, and unwavering commitment to national renewal. His leadership and policy direction provided the moral authority and strategic clarity necessary to pursue bold reforms in the national interest. I remain profoundly grateful for the opportunity to serve under his stewardship.

This year was also about people. It was about the men and women who reported to duty under pressure, embraced change with professionalism, and carried the weight of reform with quiet courage. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Senior Management Team for their strategic clarity, unity, and steadfast leadership. I equally commend the entire workforce of the National Port Authority across Monrovia, Buchanan, Greenville, and Harper for their resilience, commitment, and sense of national duty. The gains recorded in 2025 are the product of collective effort and institutional solidarity.

We are grateful to our partners, stakeholders, and the Liberian people for their trust and support throughout this period of transition. Their confidence strengthened our resolve and reminded us that the port system is not merely an infrastructure network, but a national lifeline that touches every household and every sector of the economy.

As we look toward 2026, we do so with renewed determination and compassion for the responsibility entrusted to us. The foundations laid this year will be consolidated to deliver improved service, stronger governance, and sustained economic value for our country. Together, we will continue to build a port system that reflects Liberia’s resilience, serves its people with integrity, and stands as a credible gateway to regional and global trade.

May the coming year bring peace, renewed strength, and shared prosperity to all.

Jungle Water Inc CEO Dismisses Son Over Gambling Allegation

By Victor T. Cooper, Upper Nimba Correspondent

The Chief Executive Officer of Jungle Water Inc and Jungle Energy Power, Mr. Tomah Seh Floyd Sr., has dismissed his son, Moustapha Floyd, from all positions in the company with immediate effect.

Mr. Floyd made the announcement during a year-end interview on Radio Nimba in Sanniquellie.

He said the decision was based on principles and not on family issues. According to him, his son was involved in daily gambling, which he strongly opposes.

Mr. Floyd stated that gambling goes against the values he teaches at home and applies in his business. He described the decision as painful but necessary for the good of the company and family integrity.

He emphasized that discipline, responsibility, and respect are core values he upholds. He added that family ties should not be placed above good morals, and everyone must be held accountable.

The decision has sparked public discussion on ethics, family values, and business leadership.

Political Admonition For Cross-carpeting Politicians
The political landscape of Liberia has being saturated with the phenomenon cross carpeting of politicians from one party to another. We have also seen politicians pledging their support for other political parties and abandoning their parties. What does this say about politicking in Liberia.
Recently, we saw the Deputy Speaker of the House Of Representatives, Thomas Fallah, leading scores of opposition lawmakers to join the Unity Party and or pledge their support for the party going forward thus abandoning their party, especially the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).

We would like to tell Mr. Fallah and his henchmen to please note with political savvy “Third Eye” what often becomes of ‘Turn Coat Politicians’.
In hindsight, watchers of Liberian politics remember very well a Liberian political phraseology or aphorism which is attributed to a once prominent Liberian politician, the late Kekurah Kpoto who unwittingly advised Liberian politicians to “hang their clothes where the sun shines”. This phrase literally means politicians should move on to the governing party, or powerful political God Father if they are to keep body and soul together.
Is Thomas Fallah latest overture an attempt to support his kinsman, Oldman Joe Boakai or a clever attempt to stop any investigation into how he has all too soon acquire millions of dollars’ worth of property holdings all over the place.
This overture by Fallah has infuriated partisans of the CDC who see Fallah antic as a serious political betrayal which requires some kind of punitive measure instituted against Fallah.
Be that as it may, we would like to sign a caveat that politicians who switch parties for self-gain often face public distrust. The best advice is to build credibility by clearly explaining their motives, demonstrating consistent values, and prioritizing service over opportunism.

Former Finance Minister Tweah Breaks Political Silence, lashes at President Boakai "Rescue Mission"

On Christmas Day, former Liberia Minister
of Finance and Development Planning, Samuel D. Tweah Jr., ended his political silence with a sharp critique of President Joseph Boakai’s "Rescue Mission" administration. He labeled the past two years as a time of "retrogression" and "doublespeak," and expressed his intention to confront the legal issues surrounding him.

Tweah focused on the ongoing problem of unpaid civil servants, particularly at the University of Liberia (UL) and among public school teachers. He noted that UL staff have not received their December salaries for the second consecutive year under the Unity Party (UP) administration. Addressing the Liberian public, he remarked, “You were copiously hoodwinked,” referring to their hopes for a better era following the CDC's exit from power.

He contrasted the current administration's failures with the achievements of former President George Weah, who enacted a 60% salary increase for UL instructors and initiated a free tuition policy benefiting over 10,000 students. Tweah lamented that teachers who had protested against the CDC in 2019 are now enduring salary delays of up to three months.

Criticizing the Ministry of Finance’s explanations for these delays, he likened their claims of "technical issues” to the "Doublespeak" from George Orwell’s 1984. He defended the CDC’s record, asserting that they achieved a “macroeconomic miracle” despite global challenges.

Tweah announced a media appearance on December 30 to challenge false narratives about his tenure and to assess Liberia's political landscape. He warned the ruling party that the CDC is regrouping and readying for 2026, framing the current government as a "terrible mistake" for voters.

Breaking News:

Majority Bloc Lawmakers Reaffirm Boycott of SONA and House Opening

At least 22 lawmakers of the Majority Bloc have reaffirmed their decision to boycott the State of the Nation Address and the official opening of the House of Representatives scheduled for January.

The lawmakers, who supported Speaker Richard N. Koon during the impasse at the Lower House, confirmed the decision today during their second meeting held in the Rehab Community.

They said the boycott will remain in place despite ongoing political discussions at the Capitol.

In an earlier meeting held in the Police Academy Community, the group discussed plans to remove the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the House.

During today’s meeting, the lawmakers cited what they described as poor leadership by Speaker Richard N. Koon, Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, and the leadership of the Ways, Means and Finance Committee and the Rules, Order and Administration Committee.

They also complained about the alleged improper treatment of Central Administration staff, personal staffers, and Plenary Secretariat staff, especially in relation to recent salary increases.

The lawmakers further expressed concern that many civil servants did not receive their salaries during the festive season.

They said the situation deprived workers and their families of the joy usually associated with the holidays.

The Majority Bloc lawmakers have now aligned with members of the Minority Bloc, giving the minority enough numbers to move for the removal of both the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.

Upbeat Christmas
…As Unity Party Delivers Octopus Developments
By Our Staff Writer
With about two years at the helm of national leadership, the Unity Party (UP) led government under the watch of President Joseph N. Boakai has initiated myriad of development programs at different fronts much to the likings of many Liberians home and abroad.
By all indications, the development programs that are being delivered at different points across the country signal a strategic shift from the old order and model of rolling out national development. This time around, the national development plan emphasizes addressing root causes of development challenges, such as poverty and joblessness and aims to build a foundation of lasting peace through jobs, infrastructure and inclusive governance.
According to cogent documents made privy to this newspaper, the development programs of this government is captured in the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID). This agenda essentially projects a comprehensive blueprint for Liberia’s growth and meaningful transformation over the next five years.
To meet her target over the period set aside for the attainment of the different strands of national development, the Unity Party led government has budgeted US$8.38 billion. The government plans to provide up to 30% of the cost which is approximately US$2.5 billion while depending on development partners, private sector investments and other stakeholders to contribute the balance 70%.
Meanwhile, the AAID which was officially launched in Grand Bassa County in January 2025 has already begun to show tangible results in an octopus like style in the six areas of: agribusiness, infrastructure, governance, education, sanitation and tourism.
As a matter of fact, this government has made some impact in the area of infrastructure and the national economy. These initiatives reflect a commitment to sustainable development and address the needs of all.

Financial Intelligence Agency Condemns Attack on Its Vehicle and Staff

The Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia (FIA) expresses dismay over the unlawful physical attacks and “intentional” vandalization of one of the Agency’s vehicles.

The vehicle was transporting staff to the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) to perform their official functions in line with the mandate of the Agency.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, on the Jallah Town, Capitol Bypass, in Monrovia.

According to eyewitnesses’ accounts, “the overzealous" protesters allegedly took away valuable properties of the FIA.

These included bank checks, mobile phones, and physical cash belonging to FIA’s staff who were onboard the damaged vehicle.

The FIA frowns at the unfortunate action of the protesters, noting that this action is contrary to the doctrine of mass assembly as stated in Article 17 of the Liberian Constitution.
The Agency appreciates the timely intervention of the Liberia National Police (LNP) that arrested the situation.

The LNP has identified mitigating measures to hold perpetrators who allegedly vandalized the FIA’s assigned vehicle accountable based on facts and the Liberian law.

Meanwhile, the Agency pleads with Liberians and other nationals from all walks of life to kindly provide useful information to the Liberia National Police.

This will enable the LNP to find a solution to the vandalization incident based on evidence.
A press release signed by the
Communications, Awareness, and Public Education Section,
Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia (FIA) stated.
