President Weah Nominates Liberia Ambassador to the United States

President George Manneh Weah has nominated Mr. Jeff Gongoer Dowana as Liberia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America with concurrent Non-Resident Accreditation to Canada and Mexico.

President Weah made the nomination on Thursday, September 15, 2022. The nomination is subject to confirmation by the Honorable Liberian Senate.

Ambassador Jeff G. Dowana replaces Ambassador George W. Pattern who has been recalled.

Ambassador Dowana holds a Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from the NYACK College in New York. He earlier earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Liberia.

He is a career diplomat who served at several postings including in London, New York, Washington DC, Paris, and his current assignment as Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary to Kuwait.

First Lady Pays over L$200K in Arrears for 30 Bomi College Students

First Lady Clar Marie Weah has settled the arrears, amounting to two-hundred, two thousand Liberian Dollars (L$202,000), for at least thirty (30) students of agriculture at the Bomi County Community College in Tubmanburg.

Presenting the check to college’s administration in Tubmanburg on Wednesday, May 5, Mrs. Weah’s Deputy Chief of office staff, James K. Kortu, Jr. said the gesture was in response to the students' ardent request.

During one of the First Lady’s recent visits to Tubmanrburg, a group of agriculture students led by Thomas Kadi pleaded with Mrs. Weah to assist in paying their registration and other fees as they were on the verge of being thrown out of school.

Mr. Kortu said that the First Lady’s swift intervention demonstrates her commitment not only to education but also to improve the lives of less fortunate Liberians.

Mr. Kortu noted that in spite of the government's tuition waiver at all public undergraduate institutions, the First Lady is aware that many students are still unable to pay required fees and decided to help.

In an effort to buttress President George Manneh Weah’s efforts aimed at bettering the education sector, Mr. Kortu disclosed that the First Lady remains supportive of various initiatives that seek to build the capacity of Liberians.

He however challenged the students to make the most of the opportunity by studying hard.

In response, the administration of the Bomi County Community College expressed profound gratitude to the First Lady for the overwhelming support to the institution.



The College Vice President for Administration Mr. Samuel Dunbar also thanked President George Manneh Weah for his commitment to construct fifty classrooms for the community college.

For their part, the students lauded the First Lady for coming to their aid at a time they were in dire need, noting that such intervention saved them from missing out on the entire semester.

According to the students, the administration had threatened to deny them from sitting their final semester exam if they fail to pay their arrears.

The students however assured Mrs. Weah and team of their commitment to work hard so as to make her proud.

Gianni Infantino head of the world football governing body (FIFA) has arrived in Liberia 10:48 pm, may 4, 2021.
Mr. Infantino been in Liberia is part of his Africa tour to be acquainted with happening in the area of sports on the Continent.
While in Liberia he expected to meet with the chief Patron of sports and a form world best and a friend, President George M. Weah.
President Weah is expected to discuss wide range of development related issued as a relative to the development of sports in Liberia. While in Liberia FIFA Boss is expected to be commended for the leave of work taking place in the area of sports by FIFA so far.
President Weah is also expected to ask FIFA Boss like he said doing the dedication ceremony of the Doris William sports page that is about time now that FIFA direct some of her capacity development program to Liberia like she doing to other nations.

President George M. Weah had Reaffirm it committee-men to a free independent press and empowered the media in country, in a statement issued and signed by Information Minister, Ledgerhood Rennie on Gov't behalf in observance of World Press Freedom Day Monday May 1, 2021.
The statement acknowledge indispensable to the wholesome functioning of democratic society saying "This Weah led administration will continue to create a save and necessary environment for every Journalist or media institution to freely work."

USD$5,000 BAN IMPOSE ON LIBERIA UNDER 17 FOR WITHDRAWING FROM YOUTH COMPETITIONS BY CAF

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Liberia US$5,000 for withdrawing from two youth competitions.

CAF deputy secretary-general Anthony Baffoe said the decision followed Liberia’s withdrawal from the 2019 under-17 and under-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

According to Baffoe, the decision is in keeping with articles 46 and 57 of the competitions’ regulations, which say “any national association declaring forfeit after the drawing of lots and before the start of matches is liable to a fine of US$2,500 [US$5,000 for the two competitions]. It will also not be allowed to participate in the next edition”.

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) withdrew from the West African Football Union (Wafu Zone A) under-17 qualifiers on 5 September 2018, having been paired with Mali and Gambia in Group B from a July 30, 2018 draw in Senegal.

The LFA also withdrew from CAF under-20 qualifiers on 27 March 2018, having been paired with Benin in a two-legged tie in Monrovia on 30 March 2018 and in Cotonou on 22 April 2018.

Liberia will miss CAF 2021 under-17 and under-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Baffoe has requested LFA secretary-general Isaac Montgomery to kindly transfer the US$5,000 to CAF accounts at the national bank or Arab international bank in Egypt.

For Alleged R**e, AFL Commander For Training Relieves Of His Post


The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) High Command has relieved Lieutenant Colonel Nyankun E. Williams of his post as Commandant of the Armed Forces Training Command (AFTC) on allegation of r**e.

Following the decision, The AFL High Command has forwarded Lieutenant Colonel Williams to the Military Police to face investigation.

It is expected that the Military Police will conclude said investigation on May 10, 2021, and submit its findings to the AFL High Command for further actions.

It can be recalled on April 26, 2021, Sergeant Obento Roberts, presently serving the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions in Mali, formally complained Lieutenant Colonel Nyankun E. Williams of having sexual in*******se with his 16 years old daughter.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Obento Roberts has been recalled from the peacekeeping mission to aid the Military Police in the investigation.

The AFL High Command assured the public that all recommendations emanating from the investigation will be fully executed.

At the same time the AFL has assured the public that it remains a “Force for Good,” and will not tolerate any act that has the propensity to undermine the integrity of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
