Update: President Boakai Commissions 15 Vehicles to Strengthen Liberia’s Anti-Drug Fight

President Joseph Boakai has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fighting drug abuse, commissioning 15 new vehicles for the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) operations.

The ceremony at the Executive Mansion emphasized government’s dedication to safeguarding youth, boosting LDEA’s fleet from six to twenty-one to enhance operational effectiveness in tackling drug-related crimes.

President Boakai described the vehicles as symbols of trust and responsibility, urging LDEA officers to act patriotically and protect Liberia’s future through discipline and accountability.

LDEA Acting Officer-in-Charge Fitzgerald Biago welcomed the support, pledging strict fleet management and intensified nationwide operations to combat illicit drugs in critical areas and communities.

The President urged citizens, schools, and faith groups to unite against drug abuse, calling it a national crisis demanding collective action for Liberia’s security and prosperity.

Monrovia - The Youth Chairman of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Ali Kiadii, has accused the Boakai administration of being afraid of ideas and suffering from administrative paralysis.

Speaking on a local radio station, Kiadii alleged that when the government is confronted with new ideas, it responds with insults through the Ministry of Information, rather than engaging constructively.

He stressed that when any government becomes hostile to progressive ideas, it develops fundamental governance problems that affect national growth.

Meanwhile, Kiadii noted that many Liberians expected President Boakai, with his long experience in government, to begin implementing key reforms from the onset, but unfortunately, those expectations remain unmet.

He further recalled that while in opposition, the Boakai team criticized former President Weah for not attracting foreign investments and creating jobs.

However, nearly two years into power, he claimed there are still no new companies or job opportunities.

Update: NEC Liberia Embraces Artificial Intelligence in Electoral Reforms

Liberia's National Elections Commission (NEC) has launched efforts to incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the country’s electoral process, marking a digital transformation milestone.

On Tuesday, 7 October 2025, NEC’s Board of Commissioners (BOC) and senior managers began an AI Capacity Building Workshop at its Sinkor headquarters on 9th Street, Monrovia.

The training is being led by a cross-departmental team including NEC’s Data Center, IT, M&E, Communications, and the Administration Department, underscoring a collaborative institutional approach.

Commissioner Boakai A. Dukuly, speaking on behalf of the BOC, hailed the initiative and urged senior staff to embrace AI for transparent, efficient electoral management.

With global elections evolving digitally, NEC’s commitment to AI signals a forward-thinking strategy aimed at improving credibility, speed, and security across Liberia’s democratic processes.

‎The National Leadership of the Merged Federation of Motorcyclists and Tricyclists Union of Liberia (M-FOMTUL) says all is now set for the Presidential Motorcyclists Scholarship Program.

‎The initiative, which aims to empower Liberian youth through vocational training, forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across various sectors.

‎According to officials, the assessment exercise is scheduled for October 15, 2025, at the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC) and will commence promptly at 10:00 a.m.

‎Providing an overview of the project, the institution recalled that the program was officially launched by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on April 25, 2025, with the goal of enhancing the technical and vocational capacities of commercial cyclists.

‎M-FOMTUL President General John Kenyor described the initiative as a major step toward transforming Liberia’s transport sector and creating alternative livelihood opportunities for commercial riders.

‎Meanwhile, National Inspector General Dempster Blama is urging all eligible applicants to adequately prepare and take full advantage of this opportunity to improve their skills and future prospects.
