The Liberian Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) has issued a temporary suspension on suction-based vacuum therapy procedures conducted by Fortune Skincare.
Although vacuum therapy is categorized as a non-surgical procedure, the LMDC emphasizes that international best practices require practitioners to be trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid, possess comprehensive knowledge of skin, fat, and muscle anatomy, and demonstrate proficiency in safe suction levels, appropriate cup placement, contraindication screening, and infection control measures.
In such case, Liberian regulations stipulate that equipment must be approved/certified by Liberia Medicine and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA) and operated exclusively by trained professionals with a covering Doctor to manage complications.
In response to the suspension, Fortune Skincare has submitted documentation for review and validation of its operator’s qualifications. The facility has also been cooperating with both LMDC and LMHRA to ensure compliance with national health and safety standards.
The LMDC reiterate its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that all cosmetic and therapeutic procedures offered in Liberia with clinical concerns meet regulatory and ethical standards.
