Forty-Five Teams, Fourteen Venues, One Trophy in LKF National Promotional Playoff

--- Buchanan Set for Massive Kickball Shutdown as Over 40 Teams Battle for National Promotion

Buchanan, Grand Bassa County — The stage is set for one of the biggest kickball gatherings of the 2026 season as the Liberia Kickball Federation (LKF) National and Promotional Playoff gets underway on Friday, August 14, 2026, in Buchanan.

The tournament is expected to bring together approximately over 40 kickball clubs from nine counties and 14 different venues, turning the Port City of Buchanan into the center of Liberia's kickball universe for several days.

Under the leadership of the Organizing Committee, chaired by Emmanuel G. Mark, the competition is expected to feature intense battles as clubs fight not only for championship glory but also for a place in the country's top-flight kickball competition.

One Trophy, Three Promotion Spots

While over 40 teams will enter the promotional race, only three clubs will achieve the ultimate reward — promotion to the LKF National First Division League.

That reality is expected to make every inning, every home run, every defensive stop and every pitching decision crucial. With promotion on the line, there will be little room for complacency as teams attempt to survive the pressure and advance through the playoff stages.

For many clubs, Buchanan will represent more than just another tournament venue.

It will be an opportunity to prove that they have the talent, discipline and competitive strength required to operate at Liberia's highest level of kickball.

A Scouting Ground for National County Sports Meet

Beyond the championship race, the promotional playoff is also expected to serve as a major talent-identification platform ahead of the 2026 National County Sports Meet.

With some of the country's best emerging and established kickball talents expected to converge in one location, coaches, county officials, team managers and other stakeholders will have an opportunity to assess players who could potentially attract attention for county-level competition.

The gathering therefore carries significance beyond the league promotion battle.

It provides a competitive environment where players can showcase their pitching, batting, fielding, base-running and tactical abilities before a wider audience.

Buchanan Braces for a Kickball Shutdown

As the opening day approaches, Buchanan is preparing for what could amount to a complete kickball shutdown beginning this weekend.

With teams, supporters, officials, coaches, scouts and kickball enthusiasts descending on the city, the atmosphere is expected to shift into full tournament mode.

The competition is also expected to bring together different generations and sections of Liberia's kickball community, strengthening the sport's national character while giving participating clubs a chance to build new relationships and compete on a larger stage.

New Era for LKF Officials

The 2026 National and Promotional Playoff will also carry an important administrative significance for the Liberia Kickball Federation.

The Buchanan gathering is expected to coincide with the inauguration of the newly elected crop of LKF officials, following the Federation's 6th Elective Congress.

That development adds another layer of importance to the tournament, as the Federation enters a new administrative chapter while simultaneously overseeing one of its largest competitive gatherings.

With over 40 teams, nine counties, 14 venues and only three promotion spots, Buchanan is set for a weekend where every pitch could matter and every inning could determine a club's future.

One city. One trophy. Three tickets to the National First Division. The road to promotion begins in Buchanan on August 14.

Coach Samir Kamara Appointment Backfires

— Management Team Says They Aren’t Aware of Reappointment

The recent reappointment of Coach Samir Kamara, alias “The Italian Giovanni Trippotini,” as Head Coach of the Grand Cape Mount County football team ahead of the 2026 National County Sports Meet has taken an unexpected turn, with his management team publicly distancing the coach from the reported appointment.

The Grand Cape Mount County Steering Committee recently announced Kamara’s return to the helm of the Gbassajama Boys, a decision that immediately generated mixed reactions among football lovers. While some welcomed the move as a chance to build on the county’s recent progress, others questioned the circumstances surrounding his return.

However, the situation became more complicated on Wednesday morning when Coach Kamara’s management team issued a DISCLAIMER, stating that the coach has not entered into any formal agreement with any county concerning participation in the upcoming National County Sports Meet.

According to the management team, Coach Kamara is currently engaged in discussions with several counties, but no final decision or binding agreement has been reached. The team said it is carefully reviewing the proposals and will only finalize an agreement once the necessary terms and conditions have been satisfactorily met.

The management further emphasized that Kamara remains open to working with any county prepared to meet the required terms and demonstrate a genuine commitment to both the coach and the broader development of Liberian football.

Kamara’s reported reappointment had carried significant weight because of what he achieved with Grand Cape Mount County in the previous edition of the National County Sports Meet. Under his leadership, the Gbassajama Boys secured the bronze medal, finishing third—regarded as the county’s best performance in the tournament in the last decade.
That achievement had seemingly strengthened expectations that Kamara would return to lead the county into another campaign. But the management team’s latest statement has now thrown the reported appointment into uncertainty.

Following the disclaimer, several football personalities and sports enthusiasts have come to the coach’s defense, stressing that Kamara remains open for business and that his next destination will depend on the outcome of ongoing discussions.

For now, however, Grand Cape Mount County appears to be facing an unexpected coaching dilemma. Despite being announced as the team’s coach, Kamara’s management says there is no formal agreement in place.

The question now hanging over the Gbassajama Boys is simple: Will Coach Samir Kamara return to Grand Cape Mount County, or will another county secure his services before the National County Sports Meet kicks off?

As it stands, the 2025/2026 NCSM third-place finishers remain without a confirmed coach, at least until the reported appointment is formally clarified.
Grand Cape Mount County is drawn in Group B alongside host B**g County, Maryland County, and Rivercess County, setting the stage for another demanding campaign.

The 2026 National County Sports Meet is expected to kick off in mid-November and run through December, leaving the county with limited time to resolve its coaching situation and prepare for the tournament.
