Funeral Itinerary for Nimba County's fallen hero, Senator Prince Yormie Johnson.
In a somber yet grand farewell, the mortal remains of Senator Prince Yormie Johnson, the godfather and most influential political figure in Nimba County since 1990, will be accorded a state funeral befitting his legacy. According to an unofficial itinerary, the ceremonies will span several days, honoring the life of the former Senator, statesman, and clergyman whose influence shaped Liberia’s political landscape.
Lying in State at the Capitol Building
On January 14, 2025, Senator Johnson’s body will be removed from the Samuel A. Stryker Funeral Home and transported to the rotunda of the Capitol Building in Monrovia. Following legislative tradition, the body will lie in state, allowing government officials, colleagues, and the public to pay their final respects. Later that evening, the remains will be taken to his Faith Chapel Ministry, where he served as a pastor, for an overnight vigil.
Triumphant Return to Nimba County
On January 15, a ceremonial es**rt led by Vice President and son of Nimba Hon. Jeremiah Kpan Koung, comprising state actors, traditional chiefs, elders, youth, and a massive crowd of Nimba citizens will accompany the Senator's body in a triumphant return to his beloved county.
*The first stop will be Sokopa, Nimba’s gateway town, where thousands of citizens are expected to gather in solemn anticipation.
*The procession will then move to Sanniquellie, the political capital of Nimba County, where Senator Johnson’s body will lie in the Administrative Hall for public viewing and tributes.
*Later in the evening, the body will be transported to Karnplay City for the first formal funeral procession, offering citizens of Sanniquellie-Mahn and Gbehlay-Geh Districts the opportunity to honor their fallen leader.
