NEC Given Two Weeks Ultimatum
…To Make Decision On Legal Advisor Post


The Pro- Tempore of the Liberia Senate Albert T. Chie has given the National Elections Commission (NEC) a two-week ultimatum to resolve the issue of Attorney Teage Jalloh serving in the position of Legal Advisor of NEC without being a Counselor-At- Law. Pro-Tempore Chie made the statement on Thursday, March 9, 2023 when the NEC Board of Commissioners appeared before Plenary to answer questions regarding the ability and preparedness of NEC in conducting the 2023 Elections and the structure of the legal department.

Gov’t Launches More Passport
Centers for Diaspora Liberians


The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has launched additional passport centers in several countries as part of its plan to enhance the processing of passports for Liberians outside the country.

Addressing the launching ceremony Thursday, February 3, 2023 at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing, Foreign Minister Dee Maxwell Kemayah said that US$60 will be charged for passport services and biometric registration at those centers.

Construction Project


The Liberian Refugees Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) and UNHCR on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 conducted an inspection tour of a two-storey building under construction for the commission’s new office.
Speaking during the tour, Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf, Board Chair LRRRC thanked the institution’s head Rev. Festus Logan for what he termed as a job well done over the past six years.

House Summons NASSCORP, Others


The Plenary of the House of Representatives has summoned authorities of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP), Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) and Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) to show cause why they are not complying with the law establishing the National Insurance Company of Liberia (NICOL). The law establishing NICOL states that the corporation shall have the executive power to affect all insurances of the Government of Liberia, public corporations and any other business in which the government is 50% shareholder or more.

Rice Expected Friday

The Japanese Counterpart Value Fund Secretariat (JCVF), through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has announced the arrival of another consignment of the Japanese donated rice weighing 1,500 metric tons to Liberia.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, the rice will be monetized under the Japanese Grant Commodity Program to support the Government of Liberia’s social economic development projects. The consignment of rice is expected to arrive on Friday, February 17, 2023 at the Freeport of Monrovia.

The former Chairman of Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) Cllr. A. Ndubuisi Nwabudike has finally obtained a Liberian citizenship after giving several accounts about his date of birth and obtaining of Liberian citizenship before the Liberian Senate. Declaring Cllr. Nwabudike as citizen on February 9, 2023 at the Criminal Court “B” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, Resident Judge Karboi K. Nuta said after meeting all the requirements and proper procedures of the court, Cllr. Nwabudike is now a full-fledged Liberian citizen with all rights and privileges appertaining.

LDEA Destroys US$40M Drugs

The Government of Liberia through the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Wednesday, February 7, 2023 burned a huge quantity of drugs worth US$40 million recently arrested at the National Port Authority (NPA).
Speaking during the destruction of the drugs at the Barclay Training Center, LDEA Chief Marcus Zehyoue said it was a historical day for the agency, burning yet another huge quantity of drugs in the country.

Presidential aspirant Cllr Taiwan Gongloe said he sees early signs of serious conflicts between President George Manneh Weah and Senator Prince Johnson, and there is a need for the Liberia of Council of Churches to resolve it.
Speaking Tuesday, February 7, 2023 on OK FM, Cllr Gongloe said Liberia needs wise people to intervene, adding that they should not be clapping or ignoring the happenings.

EU Cites Regression In Forest Sector


The European Union (EU) Delegation to Liberia has indicated that despite progress made in the past, Liberia is regressing and far from achieving Coherence, Governance and Sustainability in its forest sector.
Addressing the Forest and Resilience Forum held at the EJS Ministerial Complex from 2-3 of February 2023, the Head of EU Delegation to Liberia Ambassador Laurent Delahousse said that Liberia is indeed a party to many international commitments related to the forest including the European Union ratified 2013 Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) within the framework of the European Union’s strategy to tackle illegal logging set out in the Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Action Plan in 2003.

‘Abandoned Baby Found Dead’


Less than 24 hours of Mother’s Day celebration in Liberia, the dead body of a baby girl believed to be one week old was on Monday, May 9, 2022 discovered on Gabriel Turker’s Bridge in Monrovia.
The infant was found lying wrapped in a ‘Saba Tie Soap Bag’ believed to be dropped there by her mother.

Gongloe said injustices, favoritism, nepotism, massive and uncontrollable corruption were among several reasons for his rare sweeping of the Temple of Justice.
The presidential hopeful stated the system is engulfed with corruption.

Struggles To Validate CPP Original Document


The National Elections Commission Boss Madam Davidetta Browne-Lansanah on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 struggled to defend that the CPP Framework Document presented to the Monrovia City Court by her was the original document filed to NEC.
On the witness stand, Madam Browne-Lansanah was quizzed by government lawyers whether it was the document for which she was being subpoena; she responded: “It is the exact document that is filed to NEC.”
