For immediate release

Monrovia, April 17, 2017 - A local group, Concerned Eligible Voters for Transparency and Accountability (CEVTA) has disclosed plans to mount pressure on NEC Chairman Cllr. Jerome G. Korkoya for recent media reports linking him (Korkoya) bearing American citizenship.

According to the group’s Chairman, Jefferson K. D. Buwah, they would in the coming days petition the National Legislature to render vote of no confidence in Cllr. Korkoya and stage peaceful sit-in-action at the National Elections Commission Headquarters (NEC) calling for the unconditional resignation of the NEC Boss.

Mr. Buwah said the dual nationality of Cllr. Jerome G. Korkoya (Liberian-American) is inimical to Section 2.9 of the New Elections Law of Liberia approved in 1986 and amended in 2003, 2004 and 2014.

Mr. Buway furthered that NEC core values to exhibit high Independence, Professionalism, Integrity and Consistency will not be achieved once an American Citizen is in charge of the Independent Electoral Body (NEC).

Online research has revealed that NEC Chairman, Cllr. Jerome George Korkoya registered and voted in the Township of Willingboro, Burlington County, State of New Jersey during the 2008 elections that took Mr. Barrack Obama to the US Presidency.

Liberia’s crucial Representatives and Presidential elections lie less than six months ahead (October 2017), CEVTA boss believes, Cllr. Korkoya who is supposed to disqualify individuals for acts inimical to rules laid down by the NEC cannot be a violator himself.

Mr. Buway noted their action is to safe Liberia from experiencing frauds in these upcoming elections that would witness a democratic transition of state power in January 2018.

Mr. Buway made the disclosure in Monrovia on Monday morning.

Breaking News
Dr. J. Mills Jones, Mr. Alexander Cummings and others will contest this October presidential election.
PART V: POLITICAL PARTICIPATION 5.1 All Officials appointed by the President of the Republic of Liberia shall not:
a) Engage in political activities, canvass or contest for elected offices;
b) Use Government facilities, equipment or resources in support of partisan or political activities;

c) Serve on a campaign team of any political party, or the campaign of any independent candidate.

5.2 Wherein, any person in the category stated in section 5.1 herein above, desires to canvass or contest for an elective public position, the following shall apply;

a) Any Minister, Deputy Minister, Director-General, Managing Director and Superintendent appointed by the President pursuant to article 56 (a) of the Constitution and a Managing Director appointed by a Board of Directors, who desires to contest for public elective office shall resign said post at least two (2) years prior to the date of such public elections;

b) Any other official appointed by the President who holds a tenured position and desires to contest for public elective office shall resign said post three (3) years prior to the date of such public elections.

The COC speaks about DESIRES; who determines whether someone has a desire to canvass or contest for an elective public position?

It’s that person who wants to canvass or contest for elective public position to express such desires and nobody else.

Did Dr. Jones, Mr. Cummings and others express desires to canvass or contest for elective public position while serving in their respective public positions?

The answer is BIG NO! Those people were petitioned by some group of Liberians to contest the presidency.

The COC is well respected and they are not in violation of the law.

Remember! The big word is “DESIRE”.

Cllr. Charles W. Brumskine introduces Running mate, Harrison Harnwea to the people of Grand Bassa County.

Cllr. Brumskine said he asked Mr. Karnwea to serve as running mate to him (Brumskine) so the much publicized Code of Conduct cannot hold him (Karnwea).

Mr. Karnwea Joined the opposition Liberty Party (LP) two months ago after resigning from the governing Unity Party (UP) and later stepped down as Managing Director of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA).

The Code of Conduct says all public officials desirous of contesting elective posts must resign their positions two years before election year.

A local group, Coalition for Transparency and Accountability in Education (COTAE) says the Public Private Partnership (PPP) under Bridge Academies has created huge mess in Liberia’s Educational System.

COTAE is comprised of five organizations: The Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL), Liberia Economic Journalists Association (LEJA), Federation of Liberian Youths (FLY), Child Steps International and AIESEC Liberia.

In January 2016, the Government of Liberia (GOL) launched a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Program aimed at outsourcing all public primary schools over the next five years to improve learning outcomes through radical reforms at primary level.

Bridge International Academies five years primary school reform programs costs 8ML USD and it’s expected to run 50 schools but COTAE’s report says only 24 schools are currently running.

Addressing a news conference in Monrovia, COTAE National Coordinator, Anderson Miamen said Bridge International Academies (BIA) reform strategy might not improve learning outcomes and needs to be reviewed.

Mr. Miamen further noted that most of the tablet given teachers for digital learning cannot be recharged due to lack of funding; kids feeding programs are ineffective in some schools, more kids are out of school due to incapacity, delay in teachers’ salaries and accommodations in areas of assignments amongst others.

Mr. Miamen called on the Government of Liberia through Education Ministry to halt all plans to extend the five years program until careful evaluation is rollout.

COTAE National Coordinator furthered that there is no need for the PPP because it only deals with primary schools while secondary and tertiary education remain challenged.

He noted that if there must be radical approach to improve learning outcomes or reforms in the education system, there must be rollout plans to cut across all segments of the country.

Hon. J. D Hodo Merrian, a prominent citizen of Maryland County said an attempt to deny potential fugue like Alexander Cummings from contesting this year’s presidential and Representative elections could meet mass citizens’ action.

Hon. Merrian, also former House Committee Chairman on National Security noted that people of the Southeast especially Marylanders are resolved to make Mr. Cummings Liberia’s next president and Code of Conduct should not be an obstacle.

Mr. Cummings a Board member of Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in Kakata, Margibi County and is likely to be hooked by the Code of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct requires that all presidential appointees resign their respective Governmental positions two years before the presidential and legislative elections due this year.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has told a group of Unity Party partisans that claims of division in the ruling party should be an issue of the past.

It is being widely speculated that President Sirleaf had turned her back on her own vice president aspiring to succeed her, but was supporting opposition politician, Charles Brumskine of the Liberty Party.

Speaking Thursday when the ruling party unveiled a fleet of 22 vehicles, President Sirleaf clarified that she has no hand in any news concerning her support to the Liberty Party.

Sometimes when con-artists emerge as heads & incompetent bureaucrats are threatened and intimidated by what God has approved for you, envy becomes the order of the day.

It takes well experienced and knowledgeable individuals to understand the subject before dotting the I(s) and crossing T(s).

I am sorry! I don't want to be an empire and i don't want to rule, hurt or conquer anyone, I just want to help my country and people through my profession like man fight.

Tonight on Liberia's most listened to Night Show (Night Time Radio), we shall dwelt in the Importance of Establishing a Public Health System in Liberia.
At it basic level, Health is a dynamic state of being well in physical, mental, and spiritual abilities, and on the other hand, Public health is what we do collectively as a society to ensure the conditions in which we live is healthy.

To effectively and efficiently implement these two health indicators, a public health system would be the best way to proceed.

In the day of pre-integration system, Public Health was once thought to comprise only of government health institutions, however, in world of inclusive integrated related system, public health has been transformed into Public Health system which include other public related-sector/agencies such as Schools, Medical facilities, Environmental protection agencies, land-use agencies and private organizations whose actions have significant consequences for the health of the public.

A public health system is an intricate network of organizations that work towards improving the health of a population.
