PRESS RELEASE
Madam Hawa Grace Weah Rejects Unlawful and Unjust Suspension by the LFA.
Monrovia, Liberia – September 20, 2025
I, Grace Hawa Weah, President of Determine Girls Football Club, described my suspension from football activities by the Liberia Football Association (LFA) as unlawful, unjust, and a clear violation of the LFA Statutes.
In a letter dated 18 September 2025, the LFA Secretariat announced MY suspension, citing provisions of the League Rules and Article 18.3(A) of the LFA Statutes. these provisions apply only to members of the LFA – meaning clubs and associations, which are legal entities – and not to officials, who are natural persons serving in administrative or leadership roles.
“Determine Girls FC is a duly registered corporation under Liberian law and is the recognized member of the LFA. As President, I serve in an official capacity, but I am not myself a ‘member’ under Article 18.3(A). The LFA Statute makes a clear separation between clubs as members and individuals as officials.
To suspend me personally under a provision that governs clubs is legally unsound and without basis,”
I pointed out that the Statutes do not intend for the LFA Secretariat to act as both complainant and judge. Judicial matters are the exclusive responsibility of the LFA’s independent judicial bodies – the Ethics, Disciplinary, and Appeals Committees. By imposing a suspension before the Ethics Committee has even commenced its work, the Secretariat has overstepped its role, undermining the principles of fairness, impartiality, and natural justice.
“The Secretariat’s role is administrative. Its duty is to transmit matters to the competent judicial committees, not to impose sanctions itself. By doing otherwise, it has violated the very checks and balances the Statutes were designed to uphold.
I am committed to cooperating fully with the Ethics Committee to establish the facts, but rejects any attempt to tarnish my reputation or undermine my leadership through irregular and unlawful actions.
“I have been wrongly targeted, and this decision cannot stand. I call on the LFA to withdraw this unlawful suspension and allow the proper statutory process to run its course. Football in Liberia can only progress when rules are applied fairly, consistently, and in accordance with the law.
