Boakai Orders Probe, Sends Delegation to Guinea Over Fulani Woman Assault: Liberia Apologizes for ‘Isolated Incident’

By: Alphanso G. Kalama

Monrovia, Liberia — In a swift diplomatic move, the Government of Liberia has dispatched a high-level delegation to Guinea following public outrage over a viral video showing members of the Liberia National Police allegedly assaulting a woman of Fulani ethnicity.

The two-member team led by Ambassador-at-Large Sheikh Al-Moustapha Kouyate and Liberia’s Ambassador to Guinea, H.E. Forkpa Gizziewas tasked with delivering President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s message of deep regret and commitment to accountability. The incident, reportedly linked to a power theft dispute, has sparked concern across the region and threatened to strain Liberia–Guinea relations.

While in Conakry, the Liberian envoys met with Guinea’s Foreign Minister Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté, assuring him that the matter is being treated as an isolated incident. President Boakai, they confirmed, has ordered an independent investigation to determine the facts and ensure justice is served transparently.

“Liberia is fully committed to human rights, the rule of law, and the safety of all persons within its borders,” said Ambassador Kouyate, emphasizing the government's position.

Guinea’s Minister welcomed Liberia’s prompt response and diplomatic outreach, but insisted on full accountability and called for the investigation's findings to be shared without delay.

The July 24 dialogue between the two foreign ministers reaffirmed mutual commitment to the historic, sisterly relationship between the two countries and a shared desire to prevent such incidents from affecting regional stability.

As the investigation proceeds, the Liberian government has pledged full transparency, protection of foreign nationals, and continued diplomatic cooperation.

"Weahcianized" and "Christmas Light President" - Former Solicitor General Slams Weah's Govt

He writes👇:

“I am unwilling and unable to criticize the Boakai government for a number of reasons. Few of these reasons are stated ad verbatim as follows:

1. Our government didn't promote and protect those who stood in the vanguard of the struggle during the party's days in opposition;

2. Our government placed itself under the illusion of looking for experts and was comfortable of giving contracts, placing the likes of the current Minister of Justice on committees and boards at the expense of its own partisans;

3. Our leaders spent more time gossiping, faring lies and undermining those who did not share their sordid views;

4. The President was like a Christmas light only seen at official ceremonies and was only accessible to only few officials;

5. We undertook a lot of good projects but little results. Take example the population census;

6. Cabinet retreats were set aside for great fun rather than any meaningful exercise to discuss critical issues. The President was by and large the "Gopio" of the cabinet retreat;

7. The President valued recycled politicians in the government more than those he called friends who were determined to serve his government;

8. The government was "Weahcianized," a sort of odd reasoning that is reminiscent of George Orwell's "Animal Farm" so much that kids that were born into poverty were living like kings and queens;

9. Liberian foreign policy was on sale and could only go to the higher bidder even at the peril of national development. Take for instance the two separate votes against China;

10. Only personal friends of the President were favored for lucrative jobs; and

11. The structural leadership of governance in terms of power configuration was in the hands of southeasterner-vis a-vis minority tribe-Kru, namely the President, President Pro-Tempore and the Deputy speaker.

When I think of all these I feel guilty about criticizing the current government. Beyond this our former President who was fond of making music during his presidency is now on social media dancing all over the place.

What else is shameful and childish than this? I don't have criticism for JNB yaaa.”

Boakai Declares July 30 as National Day of Prayer and Holiday Amid Call for Unity and Healing

By: Alphanso G. Kalama

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has officially declared Wednesday, July 30, 2025, a National Day of Prayer, to be observed as a national holiday across Liberia. The announcement, coming just days after the country's 178th Independence celebration, is aimed at fostering unity, reconciliation, and spiritual reflection among Liberians.

The Executive Mansion released a statement Monday indicating that the declaration recognizes God’s enduring grace over Liberia and the resilience of the Liberian people through the nation’s many challenges and achievements.

In his Independence Day address, President Boakai emphasized the crucial role of divine guidance in the country’s journey and stressed the need for national healing and forgiveness. He urged citizens, residents, and international guests within Liberia’s borders to join in collective prayer and reflection on the day.

“From the founding of our nation, through seasons of trial and triumph, God has remained our guide and the source of our hope,” the President stated. “As we look to the future, let us embrace forgiveness—of ourselves and one another—for it is only through reconciliation that we can fully heal and move forward as one people.”

President Boakai has called on the public to assemble in churches, mosques, and other places of worship to seek divine blessings for the country and reaffirm Liberia’s commitment to peace and unity.

The observance will feature interfaith prayer services, community-based gatherings, and nationwide reflections led by religious and civic leaders. Both public and private institutions are encouraged to respect the day’s solemnity, promoting spiritual renewal, national purpose, and harmony.

The declaration underscores President Boakai’s continued focus on national reconciliation and his administration’s efforts to foster peace and inclusive development following years of political and social division.

MCC Board to Decide on Liberia’s Compact Eligibility Next Week Amid Boakai’s Diplomatic Push

Liberia’s Finance and Development Planning Minister, Augustine Ngafuan, has announced that the Board of Directors of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is expected to meet early next week to decide on reaffirming Liberia’s eligibility for a new MCC Compact.

According to Ngafuan, he received formal communication from Alicia Robinson-Morgan, the Deputy Vice President for Compact Operations at the MCC, confirming that the board meeting is imminent. He expressed optimism about the outcome, noting that many individual board members have a strong interest in Liberia, which gives hope for a favorable decision.

Ngafuan clarified that no specific funding amount has been confirmed, contrary to media reports suggesting Liberia is set to receive \$500 million. He stressed that such figures are speculative and have not been officially announced by the MCC.

He also credited the progress made so far to President Joseph Boakai’s recent diplomatic efforts in the United States, saying the president’s high-level engagements have played a significant role in advancing Liberia’s case for the Compact.
