President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has officially declared Wednesday, July 30, 2025, a National Day of Prayer, to be observed as a national holiday across Liberia. The announcement, coming just days after the country's 178th Independence celebration, is aimed at fostering unity, reconciliation, and spiritual reflection among Liberians.
The Executive Mansion released a statement Monday indicating that the declaration recognizes God’s enduring grace over Liberia and the resilience of the Liberian people through the nation’s many challenges and achievements.
In his Independence Day address, President Boakai emphasized the crucial role of divine guidance in the country’s journey and stressed the need for national healing and forgiveness. He urged citizens, residents, and international guests within Liberia’s borders to join in collective prayer and reflection on the day.
“From the founding of our nation, through seasons of trial and triumph, God has remained our guide and the source of our hope,” the President stated. “As we look to the future, let us embrace forgiveness—of ourselves and one another—for it is only through reconciliation that we can fully heal and move forward as one people.”
President Boakai has called on the public to assemble in churches, mosques, and other places of worship to seek divine blessings for the country and reaffirm Liberia’s commitment to peace and unity.
The observance will feature interfaith prayer services, community-based gatherings, and nationwide reflections led by religious and civic leaders. Both public and private institutions are encouraged to respect the day’s solemnity, promoting spiritual renewal, national purpose, and harmony.
The declaration underscores President Boakai’s continued focus on national reconciliation and his administration’s efforts to foster peace and inclusive development following years of political and social division.
