By Domingo Dargbeh
Centennial Memorial Pavilion, Monrovia, Liberia – July 26, 2025 As Liberia celebrates its 178th Independence Day, the echoes of resilience and unity resonate deeply within the hearts of its citizens emphasizing the need for integrity and public service as critical components of national progress.
He did not shy away from addressing ongoing challenges that continue to plague the nation, including high unemployment rates, economic inequality, gender disparity, and a fragile education system. "These are not reasons to despair; they are reasons to act," Dunn asserted, urging both the government and citizens to confront these issues head-on.
He proposed the establishment of a National Commission on Reconciliation, aimed at fostering healing and unity among Liberians still affected by the scars of civil war and economic instability.
Dunn reminded the audience of the profound impact of Liberia's turbulent history, which saw over 250,000 lives lost and countless families displaced. “Liberia has never surrendered,” he said, reflecting on the unyielding spirit of the Liberian people who continue to strive for a better future despite adversity.
Mr, Emment L. Dunn at the same time used the occasion to congratulate President Joseph Boakai on Liberia's recent election to the United Nations Security Council, recognizing the government’s efforts in combating corruption and advancing sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture.
He However, emphasized that these accomplishments are merely the beginning of a more extensive journey toward national revival. “The future we hope for demands the full participation of all Liberians,” Dunn urged, particularly calling upon the youth to take initiative in creating jobs and the leaders to serve with integrity.
