The owner of the property housing the headquarter of the Congress for Democratic Change in Congo Town, is demanding CDC leadership to vacate on or before June 10,2025, or risk eviction.

This follows the Supreme Court’s May 28, 2025 opinion, that led to the dismissal of the Bill of Information filed by the legal team of the Congress for Democratic Change, which was seeking to prevent the Subordinate Court Judge from implementing the Supreme Court 2016 judgement against their removal.

In a communication dated June 2,2025 to the National Chairman of CDC, Atty. Janga Kowo through the property owner lawyer Cllr. Johnny Momoh noted that the tenancy on its property is undesirable, and is therefore demanding them to surrender the property.

The communication also mentioned that the four point two three acres of land that is occupied by the CDC, be turned over on or before June 10, failure to do so summary proceedings to recover possession of real property against CDC, demand accrued rent at the rate of US 100 thousand per year, and also damages for the wrongful withholding of its property will be instructed to compel their exit as provided by law.

However, the leadership of the Congress for Democratic Change, is yet to respond to the property owner communication dated June 2, 2025.

The property owner hoped that the leadership of the CDC will abide by their demand contained in their June 2, 2025 communication to them to peacefully surrender their property to avoid another litigation.

CDC is yet to respond to the communication.

"Who Killed Yarkpawolo? Lofa Demands Answers as Ritual Killings Rise"

By Staff Writer

Voinjama, Lofa County— The people of Lofa County are gripped by fear, confusion, and anger as ritualistic killings resurface in the region. The recent deaths of 45-year-old Mayoungor Keleko and 19-year-old Yarkpawolo Moisemai have reopened painful wounds and stirred public demand for justice, transparency, and accountability.

A Mysterious Killing and a Death in Custody

On December 31, 2024, the lifeless body of Mayoungor Keleko was discovered in Duwoigomai Town, Zorzor District. Her death showed signs of ritualistic mutilation, another tragic entry in Liberia’s long history of such crimes.

Not long after, 19-year-old Yarkpawolo Moisemai was arrested by police as a suspect in the killing. He was said to be cooperating with authorities and allegedly shared critical information about those behind the crime. But on January 6, 2025, just days after his transfer to the Voinjama Central Prison for protection, Moisemai was found dead in his cell. Police claimed he hanged himself with his own shirt, a claim that many residents and human rights advocates questioned from the start.

Autopsy Contradicts Police Report

Following pressure from Moisemai’s family and civil society actors, the Ministry of Justice ordered an autopsy. On March 22, 2025, renowned pathologist Dr. Benedict Kolee conducted the examination at the Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital in Voinjama.

The findings stunned the county: Moisemai’s death was ruled “unnatural." The autopsy suggested the possibility of foul play and directly contradicted the police’s initial report of su***de. His family has since refused to bury him, demanding full investigation and prosecution of those responsible, whether police officers or others involved.

Public Reaction: Fear and Outrage in the Streets

Moisemai’s death set off waves of protest in Lofa County. Roads were blocked, government offices vandalized, and the Magisterial Cour

Monrovia- Multi-million dollars GSM Company, Lonestar Cell MTN has been fined US$-15,000 for breaching noise pollution laws in Liberia's capital Monrovia.

The fine was brought against the GSM Company on Friday May 2, 2025 by the Liberian Environment Protection Agency.

Prior to the EPA fine against Lonestar Cell MTN, a leading GSM Company operating in several African Countries, dozens residents in the Congo Town belt precisely in the environment of the company's headquarters complained about severe noise and disturbances caused by generator owned and operated by Lonestar Cell MTN.

The residents also said the intensive noise caused by the generator could likely pose hearing problems for them and further cause a possible outbreak of airborne disease due to what they described as air pollution being caused by the generator's smoke if early actions are not taken.

The government through the Environment Protection Agency had earlier issued a warning to the GSM Company to address the concerns raised by the residents including finding means of ending the generator's noise and pollution but little or nothing was done as directed by the government.

The US-$15,000 fine and possible penalty brought against Lonestar Cell MTN for it's alleged failure to adhere to previous recommended mitigation of the situation was announced by EPA Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Urey Yarkpawolo during a press conference held at the institution's headquarters in sinkor.

EPA Executive Director Dr. Urey Yarkpawolo said despite initial compliance claims made by the top GSM Company, investigations found unauthorized generator relocation and noise levels reaching 84.6 decibels.

He emphasized that the company must pay the fine within 72 hours and address recommendations in two weeks or face further action.

Supreme Court, Liberia National Bar Association Relations On Good Footing? Bar's President Endorsed Executives Position Against SC April 23 Ruling; Chief Justice And Associate Justices Boycott LNBA Occasion

Credit: Journalist Sherman Dioh

Monrovia- The Chief Justice of the Liberian Supreme Court and Associate justices on Friday May 2 boycotted activities marking the observance of World Law Day in Monrovia.

The occasion organized by the Liberia National Bar Association is a globally observed event every May 2, meant to ensure countries and legal actors advocate for the respect of the rule of law.

Prior to the occasion, Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Youh announced the suspension of all court activities across Liberia to allowed Judges, Magistrates and Lawyers form part of the event.

We are yet to independently verify reasons that led to the absence of the Chief Justice and Associate Justices during the 2025 celebration of World Law Day.

The event which was held at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town had former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott serving as keynote speaker who challenged members of the LNBA to respect the supreme court ruling issued on the lower House impasse.

Several Liberians have begun sharing their views as they blamed the chief Justice and Associate justices absent at the World Law Day to the Liberia National Bar Association President Cllr. Bono M. Varmah's must recent statement against the high court's ruling in the House of Representatives leadership crisis.

On April 23 of this year, the Supreme Court in its final ruling in the Bill of Information filed by Embattled House Speaker Cllr. Fonati Koffa declared all legislative activities carried out by the majority bloc and the Executives backed Speaker Honourable Richard Nagbe Koon as unconstitutional and illegal further recognizing Cllr. Koffa as the legitimate speaker of the 55th House of Representatives.

In response to the supreme court's ruling, the LNBA President said the dispute over Speaker Koffa’s legitimacy and the operations of the House of Representatives is inherently political, not judicial at such, constitutional questions may arise insisting that such conflicts must be resolved internally through legislative dialogue and consensus.

“It is not, and should not become, a substitute mechanism for settling inherently political questions, particularly those relating to the internal organization, leadership, or operational independence of the Legislature,” the LNBA President Cllr. Bono Varmah stated during a press conference in Monrovia.

According to his position echoes Liberia’s long-standing adherence to the Political Question Doctrine, which discourages judicial intervention in matters that are best left to the legislative and executive branches.

The most alarming element of the LNBA's president response was his assertion that the Supreme Court’s ruling could render the 2025 National Budget and related fiscal activities illegal because the budget was passed by majority bloc at the House of Representatives which is being used to paid salaries and funds operational costs for the very Supreme court and judicial actors.

Cllr. Varmah also argued that if the sittings of the Majority Bloc are illegal, then the 2025 National Budget is illegal adding that all persons who participated in or benefited from the process are guilty of having facilitated its illegality.”

Since the supreme Court's ruling on the impasse at the lower House, there have been mixed reactions in the public as some support the ruling and call on the Executives and the majority bloc to respect ruling and the rule of law while others have rejected the ruling.

President Joseph Boakai has since rejected the court's ruling and vowed to continue working with the majority bloc to ensure the smooth functioning of his government something dozens of Liberians including legal experts and opposition political parties condemned.

The Liberian leader is being challenged by the opposition community to uphold the Liberian constitution and respect the Supreme court ruling.

The opposition community under the banner Opposition Unity recently announced the formation of the Secretariat consortium for the rule of law in Liberia to issue an official statement of the opposition community and demand President Boakai to respect the rule of law.
