Yesterday SPAL officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Liberia National Students' Union (LINSU), focusing on key collaborative student press activities.
The Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting student journalism and media development, promoting freedom of information, expression and participation in schools across Liberia.
SPAL academically believes the partnership will empower student journalists to capacitate their reading, writing speaking and listening skills.
Press club is the most important extra curriculum school activity that academically boosts student's ability in the four skills and eliminate barriers such as phobia, shyness and silence.
Speaking at the ceremony in oldest Congo's Town, our Executive Director, Mr. Sacatirus B. Kangar described the partnership as a great opportunity for LINSU and SPAL to enhance the freedom of press, information, expression and participation in schools across Liberia.
LINSU commits to providing a platform and services where student journalists will be empowered to responsibly shape national discourse and provide capacity building for students who are venturing into high school journalism.
Our Executive Director applauded thanks and appreciation to the president of LINSU describing the partnership as a great opportunity for LINSU and SPAL.
At the signing ceremony that was held at LINSU's office were six high school press clubs with total number of 15 campus reporters invited by SPAL to witness the ceremony in Congo's Town.
Among those Schools were, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran High School, Pottal International Islamic School, Kingdom Life Foundation, Christian Bible Faith Mission High School, Mount Carmel Institute and Charles J.S. Young Memorial School System Assembly of God.
Under the MoU proposed and signed, SPAL and LINSU have agreed to work in the five (6) key priority areas which are as followed.
1. Intensive Press and Media Training - A training to Journalistically develop students capacity in reporting on and from their various campuses.
2. Media Empowerment - Though SPAL is now running a live radio program called "Students Press Hour" but SPAL intends engaging more radio stations in other parts of Montserrado and the country at large with LINSU's support
3. Annual Students Press Summit - A platform created for campus reporters or student journalists to meet media experts, veteran journalists, policymakers, national leaders where knowledge will be shared, impact will be made, student journalists will network and showcase their talents and skills.
4. Opportunities for Student Journalists - An opportunities where student journalists will be empowered and transformed to passionately achieve their goal with full potential and respect. Such opportunities involve scholarship, internship, employment, travelling, workshops and etc.
5. Expansion of the SPAL - To support and link SPAL with local branches of students union under LINSU in counties SPAL doesn't have a chapter or branch.
6. Membership on LINSU's Board - To have a representative who will speak for and on behave of the student press community in Liberia.
This MoU signing ceremony marks a historical moment and an exciting milestone in our shared commitment to empowering student voices and promoting media excellence in schools across Liberia.
We look forward to working closely with LINSU to implement joint initiatives and programs that benefit student journalists and the broader community.

Both organizations expressed optimism that the partnership will open new opportunities for press training and media engagement.
The MoU is expected to serve as a framework for long terms cooperation between SPAL and LINSU.
