Boakai Assures Former Lone Star Coach Josiah of Government Support, Promises Urgent Action on Home and Road

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has pledged government support to former Liberia national football team figure Johnson Josiah, promising swift intervention to address challenges affecting his home, including damaged roofing and poor road access.

President Boakai made the commitment during a visit to Josiah and his family, where he listened to concerns about the conditions surrounding their residence.

“We have heard your plight,” President Boakai said, acknowledging the immediate difficulties presented to him by the former Lone Star coach.

The President said he would instruct his Chief of Staff to engage with Josiah’s team and assess how the government could provide assistance, particularly in addressing the condition of the house.

Boakai assured Josiah that the government would work to tackle the roofing problems and other urgent needs affecting the residence.

He also promised to explore measures to improve the road leading to Josiah’s home. According to the President, his Chief of Staff would coordinate with the family to assess the road and determine the necessary steps for rehabilitation.

However, Boakai noted that recent heavy rains and encroachment on surrounding properties could present challenges to immediate road improvement efforts.

During the visit, President Boakai also recognized Josiah’s contribution to Liberian football and praised former Lone Star players and coaches for helping establish the foundation upon which the national team continues to build.

“The Lone Star of yesterday set the agenda for the Lone Star of today,” Boakai said, emphasizing the importance of honoring former national sports personalities and their contributions to Liberia’s sporting legacy.

The President further highlighted his administration’s efforts to create opportunities for young Liberians, particularly in sports. He pointed to the ongoing construction of a football academy as part of the government’s broader commitment to developing future athletes.

Boakai said the academy is intended to provide younger generations with greater opportunities to develop their talents and contribute to the future of Liberian football.

A Former Constituent Member of the Coalition For Democratic Change That Won In 2017, NPP, Rejects CDC-Sponsored Roundtable- Says It Will Not Participate

The National Chairman of the National Patriotic Party, George Mulbah, says his party will not participate in the opposition roundtable meeting convened by the Congress for Democratic Change.

Speaking to journalists, Mulbah acknowledged that some NPP members may be seen associating with the CDC, but said the party respects their individual rights to participate in political activities.

He stressed that the participation of individual NPP members in a CDC-sponsored meeting should not be interpreted as a formal endorsement by the party’s leadership.

Mulbah said the NPP is prepared to support a broader opposition alliance, provided the party receives respect and meaningful participation in the alliance’s decision-making process.

The NPP Chairman emphasized that his party is no longer willing to operate as a follower, insisting that it wants to play a significant role in shaping decisions within any opposition coalition.

He said the NPP remains open to working with like-minded opposition parties but warned that mutual respect would be critical to sustaining any political collaboration.

Mulbah cautioned against reducing a recognized political party to an “auxiliary” of another party for electoral purposes, referencing the NPP’s previous collaboration with the CDC.

He also referenced an alleged strained relationship between former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor and former President George Weah, claiming that the disagreement negatively affected Taylor for a period.

The NPP Chairman further criticized what he described as “crowd politics,” arguing that electoral victories should be pursued through constructive political engagement rather than premature claims of political dominance.

True Whig Party Youth Chairman Commends Boakai Administration for Firm Stance on Drug Crackdown

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — National Youth Chairman of the True Whig Party (TWP), Dukuly Samuel Mambu, has commended the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for what he described as a firm and decisive approach to combating illicit drugs and organized crime in Liberia.

Speaking at the TWP party office in Monrovia, Chairman Mambu said the government’s ongoing efforts to investigate and prosecute individuals allegedly linked to the illegal drug trade demonstrate a growing commitment to strengthening the rule of law and protecting Liberia’s future.

His comments come amid the reported arrest and prosecution of former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, who is facing serious allegations connected to an ongoing narcotics investigation. The former Vice President has denied wrongdoing, and the allegations remain subject to judicial determination.

Mambu stressed that Liberia’s fight against illicit drugs should not be influenced by political affiliation, social status, or an individual’s previous position in government.

According to him, Liberia needs a justice system in which every citizen is treated equally before the law, particularly when allegations involve activities that could threaten national security, public health, and the country’s younger generation.

The TWP youth leader also praised President Boakai for allowing law-enforcement and judicial institutions to handle the matter, while emphasizing the importance of respecting due process and ensuring that credible allegations are thoroughly investigated.

He urged Liberians to allow the courts and relevant investigative institutions to carry out their responsibilities without unnecessary political interference, noting that allegations should not automatically be interpreted as convictions.

Mambu said the government’s response to the country’s drug situation could become an important test of Liberia’s commitment to institutional accountability and the rule of law.

He encouraged the Boakai administration to maintain the momentum by strengthening border controls, supporting law-enforcement agencies, increasing public awareness, and investing in programs designed to protect young Liberians from drug abuse and trafficking.

CMC Reverses Position, Accepts Weah’s Invitation to Opposition Roundtable

The Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) has reversed its earlier decision to boycott the opposition roundtable initiated by former President and CDC Political Leader George Weah.

The CMC has now confirmed that it will participate in the opposition discussions, which have been rescheduled for September 6 at the Jamaica Resort in Paynesville.

The party had previously rejected an invitation from the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), expressing concerns that the leadership, structure, and coordination of a united opposition should not be determined by a single political party without broader consultations.

Following a new invitation from Mr. Weah, however, the CMC has agreed to join the talks.

CMC Political Leader Musa Hassan Bility said the party is prepared to engage in “frank and constructive discussions” in the interest of Liberia.

The roundtable is expected to bring together opposition leaders to deliberate on issues of national importance, strengthen political solidarity, and explore possible pathways toward greater opposition unity.

The CMC’s decision marks a significant shift from its earlier position and opens the door for the party to participate in the scheduled opposition dialogue.
