By the Chairperson of the Western Region Journalists Association ~ Meloshe Roberts

As the Press Union of Liberia marks its 61st Anniversary, the Western Region Journalists Association extends best felicitation and happiest Anniversary to all its Members in the region and elsewhere.

As the Theme: "Commemorating our past and constructing our future", WReJA as the fastest growing Media organization has made significant gains since its establishment through Unity.
As we look back today under our National Theme, the Association in its successes, has been involved in capacity building, advocacy, giving voice to the voiceless, empowerment of Member institutions and individuals, the promotion of peace and development, a champion for Human Rights and a catalyst against illicit drugs and a Campaigner against Gender Based Violence.

Our achievements over the years, couldn't have been possible if we had not recognized the sense of belongingness and a strength through Unity that the Media is an umbrella that everyone needs to gather under for protection. We have come this far through Unity and we are urging all of our members to continue to look back on our legacy and focus on our future.

As we celebrate the legacy of the PUL today through its many contributions to humanity, peace, democracy, development, Human Rights, the rule of law, Social Justice, fight against Corruption and Champion for accountability, these and many more are the collective efforts of individual Journalists and Institutions.

Were Liberia to write a book of her achievements, the PUL will definitely be the AUTHOR of such a Book.

Happy Anniversary to all.

‎BMMC Reportedly Demolishes Homes in Je-Kandor Town in Grand Cape Mount

By Jenneh Kemokai | Radio Cape Mount

‎Je-Kandor Town, September 23, 2025 ~
‎Residents of Je-Kandor Town in Grand Cape Mount County are facing a housing crisis after Bea Mountain Mining Corporation (BMMC) reportedly demolished 32 out of 40 dwelling units in the town.

‎The demolition, observed on September 22, 2025, has left many families displaced.

‎According to Assistant Town Chief, Mr Stanley Pabai, the demolition was part of an agreement signed between the citizens and BMMC.

‎Due to delays in constructing new homes for the residents and the risks associated with staying in the area, BMMC agreed to provide USD $450 every three months to each family head for renting alternative accommodations.

‎The residents have already received their first payment, and BMMC has made a vehicle available to transport their belongings.

‎However, not all residents are satisfied with the arrangement. Chairlady Jumah Pabai expressed concerns that the company did not compensate them for their crops.

‎She urged BMMC to allow them to access their farms and accelerate the construction of new homes to provide a safe and proper place for them to stay.

‎This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between BMMC and the communities in Grand Cape Mount County.

‎ Before this stage, residents had previously raised concerns about pollution, displacement, and the lack of benefits from mining activities.

The Western Region Journalists Association and Liberia Forest Media Watch-LFMW collabo:

By Ernest Kpehe Moibah Jr.

"The journey into the heart of the Gola Forest and National Park, cannot be complete without first passing through the historic town of Jennemana in Grand Cape Mount County.

The terrain is rugged, the path demanding; but our mission remains firm and unshaken.

This expedition is made possible through a joint collaboration between the Liberia Forest Media Watch (LFMW) and the Western Region Journalists Association (WReJA).

For two days, we are engaging in a conservation focused mission across Western Liberia, conducting in-depth media investigations into the state of the Gola National Park.

Our goal is clear: to uncover abuses threatening this vital ecosystem, highlight challenges raised by community members, and map a way forward in partnership with key stakeholders. It is a task worth every effort.

Today marks Day Two of our mission, and we are digging even deeper, separating assumptions from reality, and bringing the facts to light.

The story of this mission will not just be told; it will be told with clarity, precision, and authority, guided by the ABC method: Accuracy, Balance, and Credibility.

Liberia to Launch National Campaign to Promote Justice and Accountability Tomorrow

By Henry B Gboluma Jr

Monrovia, Liberia — The Office for the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia (OWECC-L) will officially kick off its nationwide outreach campaign tomorrow, Saturday, July 19, 2025.

The launch ceremony will be held in Monrovia at the Old CID Road, North Gibson Street, Mamba Point.

Under the theme “Justice for All,” this historic initiative aims to engage citizens from all fifteen counties as well as the Liberian diaspora in vital discussions about justice, reconciliation, and national healing.

This campaign marks a major milestone in Liberia’s efforts to establish the War and Economic Crimes Court and the National Anti-Corruption Court; two institutions that the people of Liberia have long awaited to address past atrocities and combat impunity, according to the official press release.

The outreach seeks to inform the public about the mandates of these courts, foster inclusive dialogue among survivors, communities, and stakeholders, and encourage active participation in justice reform and civic education.

Key messages such as “Justice is everybody’s business” and “Delayed justice is not denied justice” will be promoted through radio broadcasts, social media campaigns, community theater, and grassroots activities to reach diverse communities across the country.

Executive Director Dr. Jallah A. Barbu emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating, “Montserrado is not Liberia alone. We will ensure every county is involved in this process to make justice accessible to all.”

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai also reaffirmed his commitment to these reforms, urging all Liberians to support this crucial movement toward a more transparent and just future.

With plans to operationalize these courts by 2027, Liberia is taking decisive steps to end impunity, rebuild public trust, and foster lasting peace and justice for all its citizens.
