The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Koon, has concluded a one-day working visit on Thursday, August 7, 2025 to Bomi County, with a focus on Senjeh District.
Speaker Koon was accompanied by the Representative of Senjeh District, Hon. Obediah Varney, whose constituency he toured during the visit.
The Speaker was officially welcomed to the county in a traditional ceremony held in Tubmanburg City, the capital of Bomi County. During the ceremony, he was presented with kola nuts and a white rooster by the chiefs and elders of the county as a sign of honor and tradition.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional leadership, Paramount Chief Muanamah Jah commended Speaker Koon for his visit and expressed appreciation on behalf of the people of Bomi.
Chief Jah used the occasion to appeal to Speaker Koon to use his influence to push for greater farmer empowerment in Bomi County, while dispelling negative stereotypes that label the people of Bomi as lazy.
As part of his visit, Speaker Koon toured several key institutions and facilities in the county, including the Oscar Romero School of the Deaf, the Forestry Training Institute, the Bomi Women Center, and the Unity Party Headquarters in Tubmanburg.
The Speaker also held a closed-door meeting with members of the county’s local leadership to discuss development priorities and challenges facing the district.
At the Oscar Romero School of the Deaf, Speaker Koon pledged six thousand United States dollars (US$6,000) for the completion of ongoing construction works at the institution.
He further assured the school administration and community members that he would work to ensure the school is reinstated in the national budget for sustained support.
In a bid to strengthen women’s empowerment in the county, Speaker Koon also committed one million Liberian Dollars.
