Southeastern Professional has officially launched its activities leading to a vigorous nationwide campaign for the Reelection of President George Manneh Weah.
The Southeastern Professionals is a conglomeration of Citizens from Grand Kru, Maryland, River Gee, Grand Gedeh and Sinoe Counties with diverse Professional backgrounds and expertise.
SEP was founded in March 2023 to advocate for good governance, national security, Unity, development and Reconciliation among others.
The group of Southeast Professionals residing both home and in the diaspora initially pledged support for the Reelection of George Weah on August 17 2023 outlining the maintenance of peace, construction of Health facilities, construction of housing units for rural and slump Communities residents, payment of WAEC fees and free Public universities education among many others as reasons of support for the Reelection bid of President Weah.
Speaking at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Tuesday September 5, 2023, during an elaborate ceremony that brought together hundreds of Southeasterners, Assistant Gender Minister for Research and Planning Roosevelt S. Klafleh who is the group Chairperson noted that President George Weah should not be blamed for the underdevelopment of Liberia adding that every Liberian must realise their role and take full responsibility of the 176 years nation problems.
According to Klafleh, when some Liberians were looting and destroying major facilities including the Free Port of Monrovia, Montserrado Group of Companies they forgot that they were undermining the future of the country's economy.
"When we heeded the advice of the International community by passing into law and placing greater portion of our rain forest on the reserve for climate change purposes and limited commercialisation of our forestry and accept the principles of the chains of custody, we forgot that we were putting thousands of families out of jobs under the Unity Party Administration", Roosevelt S. Klafleh argued.
Klafleh further express disappointment in supporters and officials of the Unity Party asserting that the UP regime closed down several government Ministries/institutions including the Ministry of public works County branches and contracted/hired privately owned companies that could not do proper work which have placed serious burden on the Liberian economy adding that such action by the UP regime facilitates bad roads across the country today which makes the economy unable to afford paying on those huge contracts.
He also accused the former governing Unity Party of doing little or nothing to address the pressing needs of Liberians stating that the Ministry of Planing and Economic Affairs was closed down without considering the blue print development and how cities should look while Missionary and faith based medical and educational institutions were turned to private businesses and bent on hacking fees which deprived many families from affording the costs of Health and education under the UP government.
The SEP chairman furthermore said failure by past regimes to properly tackle corruption has made corruption systemic in the Liberian society.
However, the Southeastern Professionals chairman disclosed that SEP has analyzed the political situation and is resolved to support the Reelection of President George Weah indicating that the Weah-Taylor government was able to sustain the Liberian economy while larger economies are seriously challenged, carried out cardinal development projects including the roads from Mendina to Robertsport in Grand Cape Mount, Gbarnga to Foya, Ganta to Fish Town, Nimba route among others.
