The Ministry of Education has warned schools against withholding WASSCE candidate numbers or examination information from students because of unpaid tuition or other school-related fees.
According to the Ministry, it has received reports that some schools are denying students access to candidate numbers and examination details due to financial obligations.
The Ministry said the practice violates its policy and warned that schools involved could face administrative sanctions, including fines, suspension, or revocation of operational licenses.
It stressed that no school is allowed to deny, delay, withhold, or obstruct a student’s participation in any WAEC-administered examination because of unpaid tuition, arrears, graduation fees, registration fees, or any other financial obligation.
With the WASSCE examination scheduled to begin on Monday, June 1, 2026, the Ministry has directed all schools currently withholding candidate numbers or examination information to immediately release them to eligible students.
The Ministry also called on parents, guardians, and students to report any school refusing to release candidate numbers or preventing students from sitting the examination.
Reports can be made through District Education Officers, County Education Officers, the Ministry’s social media inboxes, the Bureau of Basic and Secondary Education, or the nearest Ministry of Education office.
The warning comes as schools prepare to close ahead of the examination period.
