LAND GRAB SCANDAL ERUPTS: CITIZENS ACCUSE GRAND GEDEH SUPERINTENDENT IN SIX-COUNT PETITION

October 26,2025

Monrovia, Liberia - A major land dispute has exploded in Grand Gedeh County, pitting citizens against their local administration following an alleged illegal leasing agreement. The crisis escalated yesterday when a delegation from the B’hai Administrative District delivered a scathing six-count petition to the Grand Gedeh Legislative Caucus in Monrovia.

The petition demands the immediate revocation of a 30-year cocoa cultivation deal involving 500 acres of community land, allegedly signed between local authorities and a Burkinabe national identified as Mr. Boubou Sebu.

CITIZENS LAY OUT DAMNING CHARGES AGAINST SUPERINTENDENT

The citizens' accusations, read by Mr. Alex Beh, are leveled directly at Superintendent Alex Grant. They allege a pattern of gross misconduct and abuse of power:
Illegal Survey and Seizure: Grant is accused of conducting an illegal survey of 500 acres and seizing community land without citizen consent.

Intimidation and Harassment:

The petition claims constant harassment has blocked residents from accessing their forest and livelihood activities. Further, it alleges Grant is currently building a private residence near the Liberian–Ivorian border.

Protecting Foreign Nationals:

Superintendent Grant is charged with protecting illegal Burkinabe nationals over Liberian citizens.
Land Conflict: He is blamed for allowing massive forest cultivation that has triggered multiple land conflicts.

Secret 30-Year Deal:

The most serious allegation is entering into a 30-year concession agreement with Mr. Sebu without the knowledge or participation of the affected communities.

CAUCUS CHAIRMAN VOWS IMMEDIATE ACTION

In response to the volatile allegations, Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely, Chairman of the Grand Gedeh County Legislative Caucus, promised a swift and comprehensive investigation.

Nimely confirmed the Caucus will officially write to the Minister of Internal Affairs and summon Superintendent Grant to explain the legality of the Burkinabe national’s presence and the ownership of the disputed land.

The Senator did not mince words regarding the severity of the allegations: "We will look at the level of disrespect. The level of non-cooperation between the superintendent and the citizens, which signals his disparity in his mandate."

The political crisis is now shifting to the Ministry of Internal Affairs as the Caucus prepares to confront the accused Superintendent.

GRAND GEDEH, LIBERIA — Representative hopeful for Grand Gedeh County Electoral District #1, Othello Brown, has reportedly fulfilled a financial commitment to the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) by donating $1,000.00 USD toward the construction of the party's headquarters in Monrovia.

The contribution comes precisely one week after Brown's initial pledge, made on Saturday, October 18, 2025. This action signals the fulfillment of a commitment the hopeful made to the party's constituency.

A delegation from the CDC's Grand Gedeh Chapter, led by County Chairman Dede D. Maclain, officially received the funds.

The transfer was executed by Emmanuel S. Doe (known as "GBALIKARTU"), Co-chair of TEAM BROWN, according to reports.

Chairman Maclain issued a statement acknowledging the contribution and affirmed that the funds would be directed toward their stated purpose—the ongoing construction of the CDC headquarters.

The transaction places Brown's financial support firmly on the record in advance of the coming electoral cycle.

Bizarre Incident at Zwedru Checkpoint: Man Dressed as Woman Refuses Inspection

ZWEDRU, Grand Gedeh County — A peculiar incident unfolded today at the Gate One Checkpoint in Zwedru, where a man dressed as a woman, reportedly a Fula woman, was apprehended after refusing to comply with authorities for an inspection. The individual was attempting to travel from Maryland to Monrovia.

Initially presenting as a woman, the suspect's refusal to undergo the standard inspection raised immediate suspicion among officers.
A subsequent investigation led to the revelation of the individual's true identity. Authorities called in a female officer from the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) to conduct a thorough search, which confirmed that the person was a man in disguise.

The motives behind the man's decision to dress as a woman and attempt to bypass the checkpoint remain a mystery. Authorities are currently conducting further inquiries into the matter to determine the reason for the unusual behavior and evasion attempt.

The incident has reportedly left residents of Zwedru both shocked and puzzled by the bizarre nature of the man's actions.

DRUG WAR INTENSIFIES: LDEA CHIEF DEFIES INTERFERENCE, THREATENS OFFICIALS AFTER ZWEDRU SWEEP

October 24,2025

Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County — The Commander of the Grand Gedeh detachment of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Colonel Robson Boakai, held a high-stakes, closed-door meeting with his officers this week, immediately following a massive raid against illegal drug traffickers in Zwedru.

Commander Boakai Demands Professionalism and Zero Tolerance

Addressing his ranks, Colonel Boakai commended his men for the recent operation but swiftly transitioned to a demand for unwavering professionalism and a reinforced commitment to the drug war.
The Commander vowed to create no "closed intimacy" with drug traffickers—a blunt warning aimed at preventing the compromise of ongoing cases and ensuring internal accountability.

Zero Tolerance for Corruption and Interference

In a directive aimed at insulating his officers from external pressure, Col. Boakai urged his men to work without fear of manipulation from any officials who might seek to interfere with LDEA operations.

The Commander's message was clear: The fight against illegal substances must be intensified, and internal corruption will not be tolerated. He stressed that mitigating drug proliferation from the county hinges on the LDEA maintaining absolute integrity.

The meeting signals a decisive move by the LDEA to crackdown on the drug trade in Grand Gedeh and push back against any attempts at political or monetary influence over their enforcement efforts.

GRANT MUST LEAVE': GRAND GEDEH STUDENTS VOW MASS PROTEST, ACCUSE SUPERINTENDENT OF BETRAYAL AND LAND GRAB

By D Abraham Cooper
October 25,2025

Monrovia, Liberia — The Grand Gedeh University Students Union (GGUSU) has declared a mass peaceful protest demanding the immediate dismissal of Grand Gedeh County Superintendent Alex Chersia Grant.

The student body, announcing their "Grant Must Leave" campaign, plans to march in Monrovia on Monday, November 3, 2025, to petition President Joseph Nyumah Boakai for action.

Allegations of Poor Governance and Abuse of Power

In a strongly worded press release issued on Friday, GGUSU accused Superintendent Grant of "poor governance, abuse of power, and betrayal of public trust." The Union characterized Grant as an "egocentric, divisive, and self-serving leader" whose actions have allegedly "undermined the future of Grand Gedeh County."

Crippling Student Operations

A central grievance is Grant's alleged refusal to release the county's $30,000 budgetary allotment for 2024, which is intended to support students.

GGUSU claims that despite fulfilling all necessary procedures, this refusal has crippled their operations, forcing many underprivileged students to drop out of school and demonstrating a "disregard for youth development."
The release further stated that Grant has "subjugated and oppressed all sectors of the county, turning public offices into personal fiefdoms."

Land Lease Controversy Cited

In addition to the financial dispute, the student union expressed outrage over the alleged leasing of 500 acres of ancestral land to a Burkinabe national for 30 years at $600,000. GGUSU described this move, allegedly made without local consent, as "an insult to the legacy of our forefathers" and a violation of the Land Rights Act of 2018.

"We have tolerated enough deceit and arrogance under Superintendent Grant’s watch," the Union declared. "His refusal to release the students’ funds and his reckless mismanagement of county resources are attacks on our future."

GGUSU's Demands

The Union emphasized that the planned November 3rd protest will be peaceful, disciplined, and "people-driven," reflecting a collective call for accountability. Their key demands include:

1.Immediate removal of Superintendent Alex Chersia Grant.

2.Release of the 2024 budgetary allotment owed to GGUSU and other local groups.

3.A National investigation into the alleged illegal leasing of ancestral land.

4. The appointment of a transparent, people-centered leader.

The GGUSU concluded by urging students, youth, and traditional leaders to unite for what they insist is "a principled fight for justice and the future of a people," vowing, "We will not bow to intimidation or surrender to manipulation."

Water Access Boost: LWSC Breaks Ground in Zwedru

By Alexander Dweh Wulu

Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County –
The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) officially broke ground today on the rehabilitation of the Zwedru Water System.

The ceremony, held in Suah Quarter along the ELRZ Road, marks the beginning of a long-awaited project to upgrade the essential water infrastructure.

The groundbreaking event brought together local leaders, LWSC officials, and enthusiastic community residents who shared in the excitement for the initiative.

LWSC representatives at the program stated that the primary goal is to restore access to safe and clean drinking water for Zwedru and its surrounding communities.

They confirmed that the project is a vital component of the government’s commitment to improving water and sanitation services across Liberia.

The impact on public health could be substantial. Zwedru residents who spoke with us expressed optimism that the new system will significantly reduce the spread of waterborne diseases and alleviate the daily chore of having to fetch water from long distances.

Once the rehabilitation is complete, the Zwedru Water System project is expected to lead to a significant improvement in living conditions and public health across Grand Gedeh County.

Pres. Boakai Submits Bill to Ban Harmful Traditional Practices

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has introduced a critical piece of legislation to the House of Representatives aimed at eliminating adverse traditional practices across Liberia.

The Bill, formally titled “An Act To Ban Harmful Cultural Practices In Liberia,” was submitted to House Plenary during its sitting on Thursday, October 22, 2025.

According to the Chief Executive’s communication, the proposed law stems from the government's “National obligation to protect the dignity, rights, and health of all Liberians.” The legislation specifically seeks to protect women and children, who remain highly vulnerable to practices that have historically undermined their well-being.

Following floor debate, Plenary agreed by motion to send the instrument to a joint committee for review. The Committees on Gender, Health, Internal Affairs, and Judiciary are expected to review the bill and provide their recommendations to the full body within three weeks.

HOUSE FAST-TRACKS STUDENT LOAN BILL

Oct 23,2025

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Good news for students hoping to pursue higher education! The House of Representatives (HOR) has just moved to review a crucial bill aimed at creating an affordable student loan program across Liberia.

During its regular session this afternoon, Plenary directed three key committees—Judiciary, Education, and Ways and Means—to immediately begin reviewing the proposed legislation.

The move follows a communication from Representative Marie Johnson of Grand Gedeh County, District #2, who introduced the measure. She argues that the bill is essential to creating an equitable financial support mechanism for Liberian students.

According to Representative Johnson, passing this bill would institutionalize a transparent and suitable financing framework to help deserving students overcome financial challenges in accessing college and professional studies. The goal is clear: boost educational opportunities, enhance national human resource development, and promote economic empowerment.

This push comes as many students struggle to afford rising tuition costs. If passed, this bill could be a game-changer for tertiary education access nationwide.

The joint committee has been given a deadline and is expected to report back to Plenary with its recommendations within two weeks. We’ll continue to track this bill as it moves through the Legislature.

Chief Justice Orders Major Judicial Shake-up for November Term

By D Abraham Cooper Sr
October 23,2025

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – It’s a major shake-up in Liberia’s Judiciary. The Chief Justice has announced a series of high-profile reassignments affecting judges across the country as the courts gear up for the upcoming November Term.

The changes, designed to boost judicial efficiency, include moving several key figures into new roles at the Temple of Justice in Montserrado County.

(Visual: Graphic overlay with Judges’ names and new court assignments)
Starting immediately, Judge Roosevelt Willie has been reassigned to preside over the Criminal Court “A”, while Judge Ousman Feika will take the bench at Criminal Court “C”.

Rounding out the capital's criminal courts, Judge Mameita Jabateh-Sirleaf is set to lead Criminal Court “B”, with Judge Wesseh A. Wesseh heading up Criminal Court “D.” And finally, Judge Golda Bonah-Elliott assumes authority over the Criminal Court “E” Annex.

But the reassignments aren't just confined to Monrovia. Several judicial officers are moving to different counties:
Judge Nance F. Sammy is trading Lofa County for River Gee County as the new head of the 15th Judicial Circuit Court.

Judge George W. Smith moves to the southeast, now leading the 12th Judicial Circuit Court of Grand Kru County.
And Judge Victoria W. Duncan will take charge of the 13th Judicial Circuit Court in Margibi County.
These extensive reassignments are part of the Judiciary’s effort to ensure effective judicial administration and the fair distribution of manpower. Officials say the changes are expected to strengthen the dispensation of justice nationwide as the November Term officially begins.

We'll continue to follow how these new judicial postings impact case outcomes in the months ahead.
