RIP : Nana Coyote
( Born Tsietsi Daniel Motijoane )
17 August 1955 - 05 July 2010
Lesotho born Singer,Songwriter & Producer.
Nana was born in Lesotho but grew up in Sharpeville in the Vaal Triangle.He then moved to QwaQwa where he attended Makabelane high school.Music was his passion so he teamed up with his schoolmates to form a music group and that was the beginning of his music journey.When he moved back to Sharpeville he joined a group called "Black Five" and for ten years they performed around the country.In the 1980s at the height of political unrest went into exile in Lesotho where he joined a group called "Uhuru" ( the group changed its name and became known as "Sankomota").He returned in 1984 and rejoined "Black Five" and headed to Johannesburg seeking greener pastures.His big break came when a group called "Ozila" asked him to be their lead singer in one of their songs "I'm suffering" which became a hit.Soon he teamed up with Steve Kekana to record a song which is considered to be one of South Africa's classics "Take your love".With his vocal abilities well known it did not come as a surprise when "Stimela" asked him to feature in one of their songs "Whispers in the deep" ( Phinda Mzala ).The song topped the charts becoming South Africa's all time classic too.Coyote continued to lend his voice to various projects and appeared on stage with a number of groups including his previous band "Sankomota".Because his voice was raspy it was compared to that of a wild dog and that's how he earned his nickname. After battling with a long illness he passed away on July 05,2010.May your soul continue to rest in peace "Wild dog".
