THE ILLEGALLY ARRESTED JOURNALIST, STILL NOT FREE.

The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) has given the Lesotho Times editor, Mohalenyane Phakela, his cellphones back this morning.

However, Mr Phakela is not yet free after the DCEO advised they are waiting for some information from the DPP’s office after which they will inform him when they are ready to take him to court.
No date has been set yet.

Phakela was illegally arrested in the dead of night, allegedly for a story that laid bare explosive corruption claims against the Lesotho Correctional Service boss, Mating Nkakala.

In a move that flies in the face of the law, DCEO agents seized Phakela’s cellphones without a search warrant, openly defying a Constitutional Court order that expressly bars law enforcement from such illegal seizures.

The case has attracted massive backlash from both local and international journalists’ organisations.

No bail for Katiso ‘KT’ Molife who’s accused of unaliving DJ Sumbody, DJ Vintos and 3 other people

Controversial businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe has been denied bail in the DJ Sumbody murder case.

The Alexandra Magistrate’s Court ruled that Molefe must remain behind bars, saying he failed to show any exceptional circumstances for release. The court sided with the state, which argued that Molefe is a dangerous individual with deep criminal ties.

Molefe and his three co-accused — Michael P**e Tau, Musa Kekana, and Tiego Floyd Mabusela — are charged with the 2022 assassination of DJ Sumbody and his two bodyguards. He also faces charges for the murders of DJ Vintos and businessman Armand Swart.

The judge said Molefe was already out on bail for another murder case when arrested, and that cellphone records, bank deposits, and WhatsApp messages tied him to his co-accused after the shootings.

Molefe will remain in custody until his next court appearance on 18 September.

FAKE DOCUMENTS BUST IN KEMPTON PARK.

Members of South African Police Service together with Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT (Central Corridor) received a tip-off about a house in Kempton Park allegedly producing fraudulent documents, including Zimbabwean passports, driver’s licences, and South African identity documents.

Acting on the information, officers conducted a search at the premises and discovered several Zimbabwean driver’s licences, Home Affairs ID application papers, a Zimbabwean passport, a printing machine, laptop, blank white smart cards, ink, and other materials used to manufacture official documents.

A Zimbabwean national male suspect was arrested on the scene.
