WHY DO SOME POLITICIANS HATE THE ARMY AND OBSTRUCT ITS DEVELOPMENT
This is a very powerful and complex question, and it is highly relevant in many parts of the world. There are some dynamics surrounding such hatred and obstruction of army development.
Some Dynamics Identified:
The politicians who normally have a deep hatred towards the army are the most corrupt politicians. Corrupt politicians often view a strong, professional, and independent army as a threat, not necessarily to the nation, but to their power, control and corrupt systems. Such dynamics are as follows:
1. Fear of Accountability: A well-trained, disciplined army often embodies values like integrity, pattriotism and sacrifice. These are the values that corrupt politicians lack in all aspects. Their fear is always that a strong army might intervene or expose their evil deeds, especially if such army aligns itself with national interests over their political self interests.
2. Obstruction Through Underfunding: The corrupt politicians may deliberately underfund or provide the army with insufficient budget, blocking modernisation, delaying salaries or cutting down army resources, thereby weakening its moral and capacity.
3. Politicization of the Army: Instead of allowing merit-based promotions and professionalism within the army, corrupt politicians may want to infiltrate the army with loyalists or politically motivated officers with the aim to neutralise the army's independence.
4. Use of Propaganda Against the Army: Corrupt elitse may use media houses as their propaganda tools to demonize yhe army, labeling them as power-hungry or undemocratic with the view to erode public trust and justify their marginalization.
5. Diverting Defence Budget: The Defence Budgets are often a huge pool of funds. Corrupt politicians may inflate military procurement costs, engage in shady arms deals, or divert funds for personal enrichment rather than strengthening national defence.
6. Weak Army = Easy Control: A weakened army means corrupt politicians can entrench themselves without fear of military-led reforms, coups, or uprisings backed by the patriotic forces.
BROADER IMPLICATIONS:
- National Security suffers.
- Borders become vulnerable to the external forces.
- Internal insurgencies rise.
- Public trust in institutions erodes.
- The country becomes a playground for foreign influence as we have experienced it on several occasions in the past.
In conclusion, corrupt politicians hate the army because the army stands for discipline, sacrifice, patriotism, and strength, being the exact opposite of Corruption, greed and betrayal of the people. The army is often enjoys higher public trust because of its sacrifices and patriotism, and this threatens corrupt politicians' legitimacy.
