Diegetic vs. Non-Diegetic Sound: In film sound design, diegetic sound is sound that originates from within the scene, such as a character's voice or a sound effect that is part of the scene (e.g. a car engine). Non-diegetic sound, on the other hand, is sound that originates from outside the scene, such as music or a voiceover
