Freedom Day, but make it real. ✊🏽💛💜

True freedom for inters*x people is not a footnote in the story of liberation, it is the story. It looks like bodily autonomy without negotiation. It sounds like identities spoken without fear. It feels like a world where no one is “fixed,” hidden, or erased.

When inters*x people are free, the blueprint of freedom expands for everyone. Borders soften. Systems shift. Humanity breathes a little deeper.

This is more than visibility. This is liberation.

True freedom for inters*x people would look like liberation for all humans.

As we celebrate the inclusion of LGBTIQA+ communities in this year’s census, a vital step toward visibility and equality. Yet, many enumerators struggle to ask the right questions, as meaning sometimes gets lost in translation. True inclusion means not only being counted, but being understood. We encourage our community members to support enumerators by guiding them through the questions, ensuring our voices are heard accurately and respectfully.

Three ways I’m known.
Three names. Three realities. One life.

At home, I am something they try to understand.
In medical spaces, I am something they try to define.
In love, I am seen without question.

For many inters*x people, identity is shaped by who is looking, who is speaking, and who is allowed to name us.

This is not confusion.
This is what happens when systems fail to make space for us.

So we create our own language.
Our own truth.
Our own way of being known.

Three ways I’m known.
Three different truths.
One body that has had to carry them all.

For many inters*x people, the first answers we find about ourselves are not about our bodies… but about s*xuality.
Not because it defines us, but because it’s the only language the world gives us.

This is what happens when identity is shaped by silence, assumption, and limitation.

These are not contradictions.
These are lived realities.

We are not cases.
We are not confusion.
We are whole.

🎯 This campaign centers inters*x voices, in their own handwriting, in their own truth.

Words matter. Language matters. inters*x People matter.
What do we mean when we say s*x characteristics?
And how do we talk about it in our own languages?
Across South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini, we're breaking down these terms in isiZulu, Afrikaans, Sesotho, Siswati, and English — because understanding begins with language.
This Human Rights Month, we're reminding everyone that:
✨ Inters*x bodies exist
✨ Inters*x people deserve dignity
✨ Inters*x rights are human rights
Different languages. One truth: bodies are diverse.
🎧Listen. Learn. Share. Start the conversation.

I know the word 'inters*x' might raise questions to some of you...Maybe even confusion. Maybe curiosity.

And that’s okay.

I didn’t always have the language to understand myself either until i allowed myself to learn and explore my body.
So today, I’m opening a space
If you’re curious, if you want to understand, if you’ve ever wondered about inters*x lives, identity, or my work…
Ask.
I’m willing to have honest conversations,
as long as they come from a place of respect and humanity.
We learn by asking.
We grow by listening.
Let’s talk.
